Wriothesley is the 5-Star Cryo Ousia-aligned character, Administrator of the Fortress of Meropide in Fontaine who enhances his own Normal and Charged attacks. Read our Wriothesley guide to learn more about Wriothesley's kit, Wriothesley's best Builds and also his Ascension and Talent Materials.

Most damage comes from enhanced Normal attack, so Wriothesley is less dependent on any cooldowns or energy.
Has low Energy requirements since he does not need to Burst every rotation.
Self-Heal ability.
Can cross water during exploration better than Kaeya or Chongyun.
Needs a healer and a shielder, even when you have constellations.
Maintaining high HP values can be tricky.
Struggles in multi-target combat.
Needs his C1 to be able to use efficiently his Charged Attack and personal healing.
Wriothesley Build Guide, Best Artifacts, Weapons and Talent Priority
Wriothesley focuses on dealing Cryo damage. Wriothesley's best build is as Main DPS in Melt and Freeze teams. As a Fontaine character, he also triggers Ousia.

For Wriothesley's build, his best-in-slot weapon is his signature Cashflow Supervision. It is perfectly fitting for Wriothesley as it plays with his HP fluctuations and increases his Normal and Charged ATK DMG, which is what Wriothesley uses the most. Tulaytullah's Remembrance is also very good. Flowing Purity is the best F2P weapon as you can craft it and it provides some good bonuses as well.
Wriothesley's build works best with the Marechaussee Hunter Artifact set fitting perfectly into his toolkit. It is also a set that a lot of characters can use, so it is always worth farming it.
Wriothesley’s Energy Recharge requirements are in theory very low, unless you really want to be able to use his Burst every rotation. Know that it is not necessary to Burst every rotation with Wriothesley. However, if you still wish to do so, you will need around 200 %+ Energy Recharge. If you are ok with Bursting only every few rotations, then 100 % energy regeneration will be enough.
For Wriothesley’s build, focus on his upgrading his Normal Attack in priority, as it is your primary source of damage.
Wriothesley Combos and How to Play
Wriothesley's damage comes mostly from his Normal Attack: Forceful Fists of Frost: This attack allows him to deal up to 5 Cryo DMG. Using your Elemental skill in between will not reset the combo, however, if you wait too long to hit again it will reset.
Normal Attack: Forceful Fists of Frost can be enhanced through Wriothesley’s Elemental Skill Icefang Rush. The Elemental skill also increases your resistance to interruption, and if Wriothesley’s HP is above 50% it will:
- Increase the Normal Attack DMG
- When you hit with the enhanced attacks, Wriothesley will loose HP
To remedy the loss of HP, Wriothesley’s Charged Attack will be used. The Charged Attack unleashes a small AoE attack, and thanks to the There Shall Be a Plea for Justice passive, if you do the Charged attack when Wriothesley HP is under 60%, it will be enhanced as well:
- Enhanced Charged Attacks do not consume stamina
- Enhanced Charged Attacks deal more damage
- Enhanced Charged Attacks heal you
You should use your Charged Attack when you are under Icefang Rush and under 60% HP in order to launch an extremely powerful charged attack that costs no stamina and heals you back up.
His Elemental Burst on the other side is rather straight forward. Darkgold Wolfbite will activate Wriothesley’s Gauntlet and launch a Cryo attack in front of him. This attack hits in AoE and will also deal Ousia DMG.
It is important to note that Wriothesley's C1 makes his rotation a lot smoother, as is will allow Wriothesley to trigger his There Shall Be a Plea for Justice through normal attacks, regarding of the amount of HP left.
The proper rotation for C0 Wriothesley is:
- Icefang Rush
- x3 Normal Attack: Forceful Fists of Frost
- 1 Charged Attack
You can use his Burst when it's available. If you have C1+ Wriothesley you can use 5 Normal Attack: Forceful Fists of Frost each time instead of 3.
Be careful in Mono-Cryo teams as his Charged Attack Shatters Frozen enemies.
Wriothesley's Best Team Comps
Wriothesley functions the best in Melt and Freeze teams as a main DPS.
Wriothesley Freeze Teams
Main DPS | Hydro | Support | Flex |
---|---|---|---|
Wriothesley | Shenhe | Xilonen | |
Wriothesley | Furina | Kaedehara Kazuha | Mika |
Wriothesley | Furina | Xingqiu | Charlotte |
Wriothesley | Furina | Shenhe |
Wriothesley’s Freeze team can be very flexible as the choice of teammates is very large. Hydro characters such as Furina, Yelan, or Xingqiu are very good characters that will help with Freeze while also providing buffs or off-field damage. Shenhe is the top buffer for Cryo characters, so if you have her, she will be the best buffer for Wriothesley.
The fourth slot is more of a flex: you can choose to use Anemo characters such as Kaedehara Kazuha to pack enemies, or a shielder to prevent Wriothesley from getting interrupted. A healer can also be appreciated as his self-heal will not necessary be enough against tough enemies.
Wriothesley Melt Teams
Main DPS | Pyro | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Wriothesley | Mavuika | Bennett | Zhongli |
Wriothesley | Bennett | Kaedehara Kazuha |
Melt teams are another good option for Wriothesley. Bennett is a must have for the Melt teams. Additionally a sub-dps such as Mavuika or Xiangling will apply Pyro and trigger Melt.
The fourth slot is best if filled with a shielder or anemo such as Kaedehara Kazuha or even a healer such as Xilonen.
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Wriothesley | Bennett | Thoma |
An alternative to Melt is a Burnmelt team. This team will provide huge Pyro application through the burning from Dendro and Pyro that Wriothesley will be able to melt down. Emilie or Nahida are your best choices as they provide good Dendro application as well as off-field DMG. Thoma provides slow Pyro application and a good enough shield for Wriothesley.
Wriothesley Mono Cryo Team
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Wriothesley | Shenhe |
Wriothesley can also be played in a Mono Cryo team. Rosaria is a good off-field DPS and battery, and she also provides some buffs. Shenhe is a must have buffer for mono Cryo teams. The fourth slot should be filled with a Cryo shielder or healer.

Wriothesley's Constellations
Wriothesley is perfectly viable at C0, however, his C1 adds real comfort to his gameplay, as well as much higher damage. The rest of his Constellations are very good as well, but you can do just fine at C1 max.
# | Name | Explanation |
---|---|---|
C1 | Terror for the Evildoers |
The Gracious Rebuke from There Shall Be a Plea for Justice is changed to the following. When Wriothesley's HP is less than 60% or while he is in the Chilling Penalty state caused by Icefang Rush, when the fifth attack of Repelling Fists hits, it will create a Gracious Rebuke. 1 Gracious Rebuke effect can be obtained every 2.5s. Additionally, Rebuke: Vaulting Fist will obtain the following enhancementd.
|
C2 | Shackles for the Arrogant | When using Darkgold Wolfbite, each Prosecution Edict stack from the Passive Talent "There Shall Be a Reckoning for Sin" will increase said ability's DMG dealt by 40%. You must first unlock the Passive Talent There Shall Be a Reckoning for Sin. |
C3 | Punishment for the Frauds |
|
C4 | Redemption for the Suffering |
The HP restored to Wriothesley through Rebuke: Vaulting Fist will be increased to 50% of his Max HP. You must first unlock the Passive Talent There Shall Be a Plea for Justice. Additionally, when Wriothesley is healed, if the amount of healing overflows, the following effects will occur depending on whether he is on the field or not. If he is on the field, his ATK SPD will be increased by 20% for 4s. If he is off-field, all of your own party members' ATK SPD will be increased by 10% for 6s. These two methods of increasing ATK SPD cannot stack. |
C5 | Mercy for the Wronged |
|
C6 | Esteem for the Innocent | The CRIT Rate of Rebuke: Vaulting Fist will be increased by 10%, and its CRIT DMG by 80%. When unleashed, it will also create an additional icicle that deals 100% of Rebuke: Vaulting Fist's Base DMG as Cryo DMG. DMG dealt this way is regarded as Charged Attack DMG. You must first unlock the Passive Talent There Shall Be a Plea for Justice. |
