Yanfei Guide and Best Builds for Genshin Impact
Yanfei is a 4-Star Pyro Catalyst user in Genshin Impact who deals powerful Pyro damage through the Vaporize or Overload reactions with strong Charged Attacks. This guide will focus on Yanfei's best builds, artifacts, weapons and best team compositions.
Yanfei Strengths and Weaknesses
- Powerful ranged attacks making some enemies easier to attack.
- Does not require Constellations to deal good damage.
- Great Pyro application due to being an on-field catalyst character.
- While fun to play, damage output will be noticeably lower than the many powerful Pyro DPS the game has.
- Primarily uses Charged Attacks which consumes a lot of stamina.
Yanfei has 2 main builds, the first being a Pyro DPS and the second being a Shield Support with her 4th Constellation Supreme Amnesty.

Yanfei's best weapon can vary depending on which buffs you use to increase Yanfei's overall DPS. Generally, Skyward Atlas will be your best weapon but using ATK increasing buffs such as Bennett's Elemental Burst this will change to make Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds and Kagura's Verity better.
You generally want to be using Crimson Witch of Flames with a focus on stats such as CRIT, ATK and Pyro DMG to increase Yanfei's potential. Gilded Dreams is even better however if you focus on Overload and Elemental Mastery. Because she will be on-field the majority of the time, your Normal Attack is the most important Talent.
Yanfei's artifacts can also be built to focus your Main and Sub stats Elemental Mastery when used in Overload reactions and team compositions such as those involving Chevreuse.
Shield Support Tankfei
With Yanfei's Supreme Amnesty she can also be built as a Shielder instead of a DPS focusing on HP % stats and Energy Recharge.

Yanfei as a shielder wants Prototype Amber, because it increases the strength of her shield, generates Energy, and also provides a small amount of Healing for the team. Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers can also be a good choice to the buffs it provides but Prototype Amber is easy to get with no downsides to using it.
Yanfei wants Energy Recharge to hit her requirements to regularly Burst and outside of that wants HP.
Energy Recharge Requirements
When playing Yanfei as an on-field DPS, she generally wants around 120-130% Energy Recharge. This is because Yanfei normally bursts every other rotation so that artifacts can focus on CRIT instead.
If you did want Yanfei to burst every rotation, or when played as a Shield Support, you instead need 200-240% depending on your team composition.
Combos and How to Play Yanfei
Yanfei's Normal Attacks, Skills and Bursts help to generate Scarlet Seals up to a maximum of 3 seals (or 4 at C6). These seals decrease Stamina consumption and are consumed with Charged Attack to deal increased DMG as well as a wider AoE to defeat enemies.
Both Signed Edict and Done Deal generate the maximum number of Scarlet Seals. This means that you want to use a Charged Attack between activations of your Skill and Burst to ensure you do not waste Seals. An example would be:
- Normal Attack
- Done Deal
- Normal Attack (If C6)
- Charged Attack
- Normal Attack
- Signed Edict
- Charged Attack
From there you can continue to build up Seals and Deal Charged Attacks. Depending on how fast you can apply Hydro, you may only want to do 2/3 Normal Attacks so that you Charge more often to deal bigger Vaporize damage hits.
Yanfei's Best Team Comps
Yanfei has some great team compositions, generally either involving Vaporize or Overload.
Yanfei Vaporize Teams
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Yanfei | Furina |
Vaporize teams tend to be best for Yanfei, allowing her to deal great damage. Hydro characters such as Xingqiu and Yelan have powerful Hydro application allowing high damage Vaporize attacks to occur.
Furina and Bennett work great together in this team. Bennett provides Pyro Resonance, ATK buffs and also healing for Furina's Fanfare stacks. Jean is also a decent replacement to Bennett by bringing in RES Shred.
Yanfei Overload Teams
Main DPS | Sub DPS | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Yanfei | Chevreuse |
Chevreuse is a great addition to Overload teams providing Pyro and Electro RES Shred as well as ATK increases for Pyro and Electro characters. Generally played either with triple or double Pyro but triple Pyro often being better using characters such as Bennett or Xiangling.
Other supportive characters such as Zhongli and Anemo characters like Venti and Kaedehara Kazuha can be great for additional RES Shred. That being said, too much RES Shred alongside Chevreuse can result in diminishing returns.
Yanfei Shield Support Team
Main DPS | Support | Support | Support |
---|---|---|---|
Lyney | Bennett | Yanfei |
Yanfei's best teams as a shielder tend to be in teams which benefit from the Pyro Resonance she provides while also providing minimal Pyro application allowing her to be a fairly neutral shielder. Characters who tend to benefit most are Hu Tao, Lyney and Yoimiya.
