Yun-Jin Guide and Best Builds for Genshin Impact
Yun Jin is a 4-star Geo user from Genshin Impact who utilizes a Polearm and specializes in enhancing teammate's Normal Attack damage using her Elemental Burst, Cliffbreaker's Banner. She also has a defensive Elemental Skill, Opening Flourish. This Elemental Skill can parry attacks and provided a limited shield to Yun Jin.
Yun-Jin Strengths and Weaknesses
- Low investment to build.
- Does not need Constellations.
- Solid buffer for DPS.
- Elemental Skill is weak.
- Elemental Skill only generates a few Particles.
- Essentially can only be a buffer.
Yun Jin Support Role
Yun Jin is an off-field support with very little benefit outside of buffing the Normal Attacks of whoever is on-field while her buff is active. This may seem quite limiting, but it actually opens her up as an excellent option for certain builds and characters. This buff is based on her DEF stat and is amplified through her 4th Ascension so we do not have a high investment cost to setting her up as a support.
The buff comes from her Elemental Burst Cliffbreaker's Banner and is the primary reason to add her to any team composition. The buff lasts for 30 strikes so some characters are going to finish it quickly, where as a Claymore user might finish slower.

Yun Jin's weapon selection was straightforward with her best 5-star weapon being Engulfing Lightning simply due to the bonus Energy Recharge available on the weapon, but Update 5.0 has added a new 4-star option with Footprint of the Rainbow. This new weapon offers a substantial increase to DEF with its weapon perk and a strong boost for DEF stacking with Yun Jin. Still equally good is the Favonius Lance due to Energy Recharge and bonus particle generation. Lastly, we have included the Kitain Cross Spear for its particle generation that can occur off-field. With each weapon we pay little attention to its damage stats and use this gear slot to add as much Energy Recharge as we can. Yun Jin's Energy Recharge should be as high as possible when not paired with other Geo characters aiming for 220% - 250%. When paired with another Geo character, 150 - 200% Energy Recharge is required.
As for her Artifacts, we can focus on a single set to get everything we want. Husk of Opulent Dreams is that set. Not only does it stack DEF as a bonus, but its 4-piece bonus will increase that DEF bonus further while off-field. This allows us to swap her onto the field, and use her burst with the maximum benefit already to go. An argument could be made for using 2-piece set bonuses rather than a 4-piece. We have given some of those options as well.
Combos and How to Play Yun Jin
There is very little to know about using Yun Jin as a pure support character. We simply line up our buffs for our main DPS and then bring Yun Jin on the field for her Elemental Burst Cliffbreaker's Banner. Afterwards, swap back to your main DPS to use their buffed Normal Attacks. There is not much more to know about her Elemental Burst.
Yun Jin's Elemental Skill, Opening Flourish, has a couple of variations depending on how you use it.
- A simple press unleashes a Geo attack.
- Hold and charge the skill to Level 1, then release. This method generates Energy for your team after being held for just over one second then released.
- Hold and charge to Level 2, then release. This is method will maximize your particle generation and also provide a limited shield for her. However, it has a longer casting time of 2.5 seconds. This can be used to block a strong incoming attack you cannot get away from, but the high cast time takes away from it being used as an emergency shield. You have to plan for it, which makes it somewhat useless in intense fighting.
- Parring an attack. Yun Jin's 1st Ascension passive grants her the ability to instantly release a level 2 charge if she uses her Elemental Skill at the exact moment she gets hit. Very much like you would parry an attack in an action game. This is by far the best variation of her skill, but it takes some skill and timing to perfect it, with some players saying it is impossible unless you have a good connection.
Overall, if you simply focus on using her Elemental Burst and keep her Energy Recharge as high as you can she can be a fantastic buff for characters who focus on Normal attacks as their primary source of damage.
Yin Jin's Best Team Comps
Yun Jin is best placed on teams that focus on buffing a single characters attack, specifically Normal Attacks.
Noelle Hypercarry Team
Support | Main DPS | Buffer | Off-fielder |
---|---|---|---|
Yun Jin | Noelle | Bennett | Fischl |
This Noelle Hypercarry team combination uses Yun Jin and Bennett's buffing abilities to focus on Noelle's primary attack with her Claymore. The synergy here between Yun Jin and Noelle's large, slow, AoE attacks is almost perfect with 30 attacks available between each rotation. We have added Fischl supporting off-field DMG with her Electro attacks. Overall, this build performs quite well and is very easy to play with no set rotation outside of using Yun Jin's Cliffbreaker's Banner than swapping to Noelle until the buff expires.
Ayato Team
Support | Main DPS | Sub DPS | CC |
---|---|---|---|
Yun Jin | Kamisato Ayato | Xingqiu | Kaedehara Kazuha |
The main focus of this build is Ayato and his Normal Attacks, providing some significant Hydro DMG. Xingqiu's Elemental Skill Guhua Sword: Fatal Rainscreen and Elemental Burst Guhua Sword: Raincutter, both produce Rain Swords helping to keep Ayato safe with extra Damage Reduction. They also boost his interruption RES, allowing him to continuously chain his attacks. Kazuha is added to help with grouping enemies together with his Chihayaburu and his Kazuha Slash can both be used just before Yun Jin's Cliffbreaker's Banner to stack her buff on Ayato. Overall, this build is a lot of fun with Ayato's Kamisato Art: Kyouka and Kamisato Art: Suiyuu, both benefiting his normal attacks.
Yoimiya Vaporize Team
Support | Main DPS | Buffer | Shielder |
---|---|---|---|
Yun Jin | Yoimiya | Xingqiu | Zhongli |
As with our previous build, this Vaporize team's main DPS is focused on Normal Attacks. Yoimiya's Niwabi Fire-Dance converts her Normal Attacks to Pyro allowing her to get some great Elemental Reaction damage with Xingqiu spreading Hydro. We amplify her attacks further with Yun Jin's Cliffbreaker's Banner, letting Yoimiya run around the field and take down enemies with her bow. On top of this synergy around Normal Attacks, we have added in Zhongli for shielding, Elemental RES shred and a Geo Resonance bonus with Yun Jin. This build's rotation is very fluid and does not have any set order outside of swapping Yoimiya on to the field right after Yun Jin's buff is activated.

Yun Jin's Constellations
Almost all of Yun Jin's constellations are useful and push her to become a stronger buffer for your main DPS, mainly her Myriad Mise-En-Scène (C2) and Decorous Harmony (C6). However, she functions fine at C0 and the high investment is not worth chasing.
# | Name | Explanation |
---|---|---|
C1 | Thespian Gallop | Opening Flourish's CD is decreased by 18%. |
C2 | Myriad Mise-En-Scène | After Cliffbreaker's Banner is unleashed, all nearby party members' Normal Attack DMG is increased by 15% for 12s. |
C3 | Seafaring General |
|
C4 | Flower and a Fighter | When Yun Jin triggers the Crystallize Reaction, her DEF is increased by 20% for 12s. |
