Introduction

Infernal Shrines is a 3-lane Map belonging to the Diablo universe. The signature Objective of this Map are Shrines. When active, each team has to kill 40 Guardians. The first team who does that gets a Punisher, a powerful unit that will enable a strong push.

Lane Assignments

Here you can find one or more formations that are viable on this Map. Keep in mind that positions in lane are not strict and will often change based on the situation.

3.1.

Formation 1-4

The go-to formation for Infernal Shrines is 1-4:

  • 1 Hero, the Offlaner, covers the top lane;
  • 4 Heroes rotate between the middle and the bottom lane.
4.

Map Strategy

  • At 1:00 minute or whenever available, start clearing the allied Siege Camp in the middle lane and capture it as soon as possible. Watch out for invades!
  • After that, if your team has an advantage, start clearing the neutral Siege Camp in the bottom lane and capture it as soon as possible.
  • At 2:15 minutes or several seconds before the next Objective phase, start clearing the allied Bruiser Camp and capture it slightly before the Shrine activates. To make this Mercenary Camp join the lane together with allied Minions, capture it at 2:40 minutes or 10 seconds after a wave of Minions spawned.
  • At 3:00 minutes or right before the next Shrine activates, you must be already near the Shrine! Being late by just 5 seconds is enough to gift 10 Guardians to the enemy team. If you are 10 seconds late, the enemy team can easily get a lead of 20 Guardians and basically get a free Punisher.
  • If it is the first Shrine of the game, the Offlaner can double soak during the Objective phase and while the Punisher is up. When the Objective is bottom, they should rotate between the middle and the top lane. When the Objective is middle or top, they should rotate between the middle and bottom lane.
  • If you win the Objective, push together with the Punisher. The first thing you should do is to destroy a Side Wall (on the external side of the Towers surrounding the Gate) so that your team can use that space to make aggressive plays and/or to get out when caught by enemy Heroes.
  • If you lose the Objective, someone with Unstoppable or mobility tools should bait the enemy Punisher over the Gate: go behind the Gate, take damage from opponents (by walking into area of effect Abilities on the ground) or deal damage to an enemy (so that the Punisher can gain vision on you), and then (right before being hit) use any Ability that helps you to survive or dodge.

Mercenary Camps

As shown in the image below, Infernal Shrines has a total of 5 Mercenary Camps:

  • 2 allied/enemy Bruiser Camps in the top lane;
  • 2 allied/enemy Siege Camps in the middle lane;
  • 1 neutral Siege Camp in the bottom lane.

Unlike some other Maps, Mercenary Camps on Infernal Shrines do not disappear from the battlefield during the Objective phase or right after it ends.

5.1.

Siege Camp

This type of Mercenary Camp features 3 Impalers. Once captured, it spawns the same units fighting for your team in the corresponding lane. When possible, push with them to get more value.

Spawn Respawn
1:00 minute 3:00 minutes after its last capture

Impalers are ranged units that can attack enemies from the distance but lack area of effect damage to quickly clear enemy Minions. Once captured, they are capable of damaging enemy Structures without getting in their range.

5.2.

Bruiser Camp

This type of Mercenary Camp features 1 Fallen Shaman and 2 Fallen Hounds. Once captured, it spawns the same units fighting for your team in the corresponding lane. When possible, push with them to get more value.

Spawn Respawn
1:00 minute 4:00 minutes after its last capture

Once captured, the Fallen Shaman periodically summons 2 Fallen Hounds whenever they die. The most efficient way to clear them in lane is therefore to kill the Fallen Shaman first and the Fallen Hounds after. Fallen Shaman and Fallen Hounds deal 100% increased damage to Minions, Structures and Summons.

Map Objective

The signature Objective of Infernal Shrines are Shrines. When active, each team has to kill 40 Guardians. The first team who does that gets a Punisher, a powerful unit that will enable a strong push.

Spawn Respawn
3:00 minutes 3:00 minutes after the Punisher dies
Infernal Shrines Objective 1
Activate the Shrines
The Infernal Shrines periodically gather power. Activate them and prepare for a fight.
Infernal Shrines Objective 2
Defeat Guardians
Slay 40 Guardians before the enemy team to bring forth a mighty Punisher.
Infernal Shrines Objective 3
Beware the Punisher
Punishers have one of three devastating powers. Be careful, they focus on attacking heroes above all else.

Shrines can be in 3 different locations: right above the top lane, right above the middle lane, and between the middle and the bottom lanes. 99% of the time, the Shrine will be in a different location from the previous one.

The type of Punisher will change every time, across 3 different types:

  • Arcane (purple), placing rotating Arcane beams to damage enemies;
  • Frost (blue), firing delayed frost bombs that Root enemies and disable Structures;
  • Mortar (orange), launching a stream of firebombs to damage enemies.

Guardians spawn in intervals of 0.15 seconds, until 10 of them exist. From that point, a 5-second timer starts, which triggers another spawn phase. Guardians follow enemies to attack them, so you can group them by moving around and then use area of effect Abilities to kill many of them at the same time. When doing so, be careful because enemy Heroes will try to steal them by last-hitting! You should try to do the same.

The best Heroes for clearing the Shrine are:

Punishers will jump on the nearest enemy Hero once every 15 seconds. When you lose the Objective, no one should be outside the Gate in that lane and someone should bait the Punisher's jump over it, so that all Structures nearby will damage it. Since the Punisher needs vision to jump on someone, the Hero in charge of baiting should take damage or deal damage.

7.

Core Ability

Every 12 seconds, the Core will spawn 2 volleys of Frozen Orbs that explode, dealing 5% maximum Health as damage and Rooting enemy Heroes hit for 1.5 seconds.

8.

Win Conditions

To win the game on Infernal Shrines, you should count on any of the following win conditions:

Tips and Tricks

  • Use the first Healing Fountain (2-minute cooldown) at or before 1:00 minute because the first Objective on this Map activates at 3:00 minutes, so you will have it back in time for that.
  • Look at the color of the Shrine or mouseover a Shrine indicator on the Minimap to see whether the next Punisher will be a Mortar (orange), Frost (blue), or Arcane (purple) one.
  • 39-ing the Objective (stopping at 39 Guardians killed) is a strategy used to delay a Punisher spawn when your team has an advantage and the enemy team killed little to no Guardians. Use it to wait for allied Heroes to respawn or for the next Talent Tier to be unlocked.
  • Baiting the Punisher is a trick used to easily defend from a lost Objective. The best Heroes for doing this are the ones with Unstoppable or mobility tools. They should be the closest to the Punisher when he is going to jump over the Gate and has vision on them. Then, right before the Punisher lands, they should use a tool to survive or dodge.
  • Global Heroes should ideally take care of the lane that is farther away from the next Objective location, so that they can use their global tool to quickly join their team during the next Objective phase.
