The Last Ruin - The Husk of Elder Gaspar Boss Guide

The Husk of Elder Gaspar is the final boss of the The Last Ruin Monolith Timeline in Last Epoch. This encounter takes place in the Chamber of Ruin as a single-phase fight with layered elemental mechanics. Elder Gaspar has the widest range of damaging attacks out of any Monolith boss, so having Resitances capped for Void, Fire, Cold, and Lightning is a very good idea. He has punishing skills if you get hit, so make sure you know what he does before facing him.

Boss Mechanics

Here is a detailed breakdown of all major abilities and what to watch out for.

2.1.

Elemental Beam Combo

Gaspar will teleport to the center of the arena and fire a high-speed spinning cast with three elemental beams; Cold, Fire, and Lightning. The beam rotates rapidly clockwise, and can deal huge damage if you are caught in it. The safest way to avoid it is to run in the same direction as the beams while staying in-between two of the beams. The closer you are to the boss, the easier it is to stay safe, just avoid getting too close! It's possible that if you are, you'll get clipped by two beams at once.

2.2.

Ice Storm

Gaspar will shoot outwards a ton of medium ice storm clouds. The way he shoots them is rather random and unpredictable, but he uses it right after the Elemental Beam, so be prepared as soon as the beam ends.

2.3.

Void Explosion

When Gaspar teleports to another place on the arena, he always detonates a small Void explosion. You should see it on the floor where he’s going to spawn, so keep an eye out when he moves away.

2.4.

Fire Totem Summons

Gaspar will sometimes summon Fire totems that deal AoE fire damage around them. Don’t hesitate to destroy the totems as soon as possible.

2.5.

Lightning Balls

Gaspar will Spawn electric balls all over the arena that will explode if you touch them. They are rather visible, so you should be able to avoid them. They deal a bit of Lightning damage, and disappear after a while.

2.6.

Void Blast

Large purple circles will appear all over the arena, leaving only small safe spots. Those circles will detonate into massive explosions, dealing void damage. Usually the middle of the arena remains safe. After the circle trigger, a massive void storm will surround the arena. This will not leave much room to move around, and if you touch the outside circle it will deal heavy void damage.

Encounter Walkthrough & Strategy

This is a one-phase encounter that ramps up in intensity as mechanics start overlapping. There is no phase transition, but the arena space becomes tighter due to the Void storm that ends up surrounding the arena.

  • Stay near the boss to more easily dodge Elemental Beam Combo.
  • Watch for Flame Totems and destroy them quickly before the arena fills up.
  • Keep moving to avoid attacks.
  • Center your positioning once the Void Storm begins. Avoid lingering at the edges.
  • React quickly to cast animations — most attacks are telegraphed clearly but can still be deadly if you stand still too long.
3.1.
  • 75% Fire Resistance
  • 75% Cold Resistance
  • 75% Lightning Resistance
  • 75% Void Resistance
  • High Movement Speed to navigate AoEs
4.

Unique Boss-Specific Rewards

The Husk of Elder Gaspar has two Unique items and three Set items drops tied to its loot table:

Gaspar's Acuity and Gaspar's Will are common boss-specific Set item drops. Both can drop in either normal or empowered versions of the Monolith. Their drop chances are not affected by Corruption, and only one will drop per kill.

Gaspar's Insight is a rare Set item drop that becomes more common in Empowered Monoliths at higher corruption levels.

Sacrificial Embrace is a rare Unique item drop that becomes more common in Empowered Monoliths at higher Corruption levels.

Ravenous Void is a Unique item. It is an exclusive Empowered drop, and one of the rarest uniques in the game. This item has a low base drop rate, but its chances increase steadily with higher Corruption levels.

Harbinger of Fear

The Harbinger for this Timeline is the Harbinger of Fear. She will keep some skills from Gaspar:

  • She will use another version of the lightning balls, and this time put down lightning mines on the ground. These only detonate if you walk on them.
  • Instead of teleporting herself to the center of the arena to do the Elemental Beams, he will place a turret in the center. Be very careful during this attack, as this Harbinger will keep attacking you while the turret will spin with the elemental beams. The best thing to do is to walk with the beam until it stops.

Harbinger Unique Drops

  • The Inevitable
  • Harbinger's Needle

Additionally, Harbingers drop the Harbinger Eye which is needed if you want to summon Aberroth.
