Reign of Dragons - Emperor of Corpses Boss Guide

The Emperor of Corpses is the final boss of the Reign of Dragons Monolith Timeline in Last Epoch. This encounter takes place in the Rotting Hoard. The Emperor of Corpses is a more powerful necrotic version of the Primeval Dragon. His abilities often have the power to one shot any player, which forces you to constantly be on the move, and have high survivability. He attacks in large AoE and does not hesitate to resurrect hordes of monsters.

2.

Boss Mechanics

Here is a breakdown of the major abilities used by the Emperor of Corpses and the hazards in the arena.

2.1.

Necrotic Nova

A large circular explosion that deals massive Necrotic damage. He will get on his hind legs and create a massive bubble around him that will blow up after a short time. Make sure to move out of it on time, as it will wipe most builds, depending on Corruption and player level. Right after the explosion, the outer edge of the arena becomes a lingering plague zone, inflicting heavy Necrotic DoT if you stay in it. This forces you to reposition toward the center after each cast!

2.2.

Terrifying Roar

When he reaches 70% HP or less, he will do an instant Roar that applies maximum slow stacks to your character. It also summons five Slaughtered Thralls that will deal Physical damage. Kill them as soon as possible.

2.3.

Necrotic Projectile Spread

The boss fires a multiple necrotic projectiles across the arena. These projectiles can overlap easily and stack damage if you do not reposition frequently. It’s basically a lot of small projectiles landing on the floor. This attack also spawns more Slaughtered Thralls.

2.4.

Spirit Breath

A wide cone-shaped breath attack that deals significant Necrotic damage over time. It often overlaps with other abilities and can cover a large portion of the arena. Be ready to dodge or reposition when you see the animation wind-up! He will lift his head up right before.

2.5.

Slash Attack

The boss will perform a melee slash in front of him. This is the least dangerous attack he has.

2.6.

Blood Pools

The Emperor will spawn blood pools around the Arena, which will do a massive amount of damage every second you stand in it.

Encounter Walkthrough & Strategy

3.1.

Phase 1: Single-Phase Encounter

This boss fight is entirely contained within a single phase, with only the Roar beginning after hitting 70% of health. The primary challenge is evading the one-shot ability.

  • Stay mobile. Many abilities can be avoided by moving consistently around the arena.
  • Dodge Necrotic Nova and quickly reposition to the arena center after the cast, because the outer area becomes deadly.
  • Keep away from the arena edges due to the blood pools.
  • Use movement skills (e.g., Shift, Teleport, Lunge) to reposition through projectile spreads and breath attacks.
  • Kill the zombies! They are low threat and can be killed fast. Don’t let them accumulate, as in large numbers they can rapidly make you vulnerable to the boss attacks.
3.2.
  • 75% Necrotic Resistance
  • 75% Physical Resistance
  • High movement speed is strongly recommended
4.

Unique Boss Specific Rewards

Dragonflame Edict and Symbol of Demise both have an equal chance to drop, making sure you always get one or the other. They both drop in Normal and Empowered, and are not affected by Corruption levels.

Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros is a rare drop that has improved chances at higher corruption levels. It can technically drop in both normal and empowered Monoliths, but is most efficiently farmed in empowered timelines.

Horns of Uhkeiros is an Empowered-only rare drop and is affected by Corruption level. Farming higher corruption in empowered Monoliths improves your chances of getting this item significantly.
