Blood, Frost, and Death - Formosus the Undying Boss Guide

Formosus the Undying, also known as Frost Lich Formosus, is the final boss of the Blood, Frost, and Death Monolith Timeline in Last Epoch. The fight takes place in the Layer of Formosus arena and features a single-phase battle focused on cold and necrotic damage. The fight can quickly become chaotic due to all the undead that will be summoned.

2.

Boss Mechanics

Here is a detailed breakdown of the major mechanics and abilities used by Formosus.

2.1.

Undead Summons

Formosus will summon three Undead Wengari Axe Throwers and one Undead Wengari Matriarch. Be particularly careful with the Matriarch as she will do a massive Earthquake attack accompanied by a big aftershock, dealing both Physical and Lightning damage. If you kill any of the Wengari, they will get resurrected eventually.

2.2.

Necrotic beam

Formosus will launch a massive beam right in front of him. The beam deal Necrotic damage and DoT Necrotic damage. The longer it lasts, the more damage it will do.

2.3.

Frost Tornado

Formosus will summon small frost tornadoes. They move in random directions, but are quite slow, making them easy to avoid. They stay quite long in the arena and deal Cold damage if you get hit.

2.4.

Seekers

Formosus will shoot out Cold and Necrotic missiles that seek the player. They are quite hard to evade as they seek you for a long time. However, they do not deal a ton of damage; getting hit by them likely won't be detrimental.

2.5.

Ice Path and Teleport

Formosus has two attacks that do not deal damage. He sometimes teleports to another location. It can happen that he teleports off-screen, so don’t be surprised if you suddenly don’t see him anymore. He can also leave an ice trail on the ground, slowing you down if you walk on it. Both deal no damage, but are just a bit annoying.

3.

Encounter Walkthrough & Strategy

The fight is really one of the easiest. He has no massive mechanic that can actually one-shot you. Most of his attacks can be tanked, even if you get hit. Just be careful of the Cold and Necrotic damage over time.

3.1.
  • 75% Cold Resistance
  • 75% Necrotic Resistance
  • 75% Lightning Resistance
  • 75% Physical Resistance
  • High movement speed is extremely helpful
4.

Unique Boss-Specific Rewards

Formosus can drop four unique items and one Set item depending on the difficulty and corruption level:

Last Steps of the Living and Frozen Eyes of Formosus are both common unique drops with a 50% drop chance each. However, they are mutually exclusive—only one will drop per kill. These can appear in both Normal and Empowered timelines, and their drop rates are not affected by Corruption.

Frostbite Shackles is a rare drop that can technically appear in Normal timelines, but its chances are significantly better in Empowered Monoliths with high Corruption.

Eulogy of Blood is exclusive to Empowered difficulty and is considered a rare drop. Its chance also improves with higher Corruption levels.

Lich's Scorn is the set item that can drop in both Normal and Empowered Monolith, and at any Corruption level.
