Foreword

On this page, we are maintaining a list of all the terminology that we use in our guides which we believe requires additional explanation. In some cases, the terms may be totally unknown to some of our readers, while in other cases they may have a different meaning than their wording may imply.

Glossary

Terms Explanations
Abyssal Decay
Deals void damage over time. Stack limit is 1, deals 120 void damage over 6 seconds.
Bleed
Deals physical damage over time. Stack limit is unlimited, deals 53 base damage over 3 seconds.
Anguish
A Curse that lasts 10 seconds, reduces damage over time dealt and deals Necrotic Damage to all enemies afflicted with it whenever you kill an enemy. It cannot stack.
Penance
A Curse that lasts 15 seconds which causes affected targets to take 20 Spell Fire Damage when they hit another target, but it does not stack.
Decrepify
A Curse which deals 200 Physical Damage over 10 seconds with added damage applying at 100% effectiveness per second, and causes the target to take more damage from damage over time based on the caster’s missing health.
Acid Skin
A Curse which deals 80 Poison Damage over 5 seconds with added damage applying at 80% effectiveness per second, and adds a 20% chance to be critically hit.
Torment
A Curse which deals 120 Spell Necrotic damage over 3 seconds with added damage applying at 200% effectiveness per second and reduces movement by 12% (multiplicative with other modifiers), but it does not stack.
Freeze
Enemies and players that are frozen cannot move or use skills. Freeze has a base duration of 1.2 seconds. To have a chance to freeze, a skill must have a freeze rate. Most Cold skills have a freeze rate.
Blind
Halves critical strike chance and reduces targeting accuracy for enemies. Stack limit is 1, lasts 4 seconds.
Fear
Induces fear, causing the target to flee from combat.
Stun
Stuns the target, rendering them temporarily incapacitated.
Curse
Amplifies the damage taken from various sources.
Chill
Reduces movement speed, attack speed, and cast speed. Stack limit is 3, lasts 4 seconds.
Critical Vulnerability
Increases chance to be critically hit. Stack limit is 10, +2% chance to receive a critical strike and -10% critical strike avoidance per stack, each stack lasting 4 seconds.
Damned
Deals necrotic damage over time and reduces health regen. Stack limit is unlimited, deals 35 base necrotic damage over 2.5 seconds, 20% reduced health regen per stack.
Doom
Deals void damage over time and increases melee damage taken. Stack limit is 4, deals 400 base void damage over 4 seconds, +4% increased melee damage taken per stack.
Efficacious Toxin
You take 10% increased damage over time. Stack limit is 1, +10% increased damage over time taken for 4 seconds.
Electrify
Deals lightning damage over time. Stack limit is unlimited, deals 44 base lightning damage over 2.5 seconds.
Frailty
You deal 6% less damage (multiplicative with other modifiers). Stack limit is 3, lasts 4 seconds.
Frenzy
Increases attack speed and cast speed by +20%. Stack limit is 1, lasts 1 second.
Frostbite
Deals cold damage over time. The first 30 stacks each increase chance to be frozen by 20%. Stack limit is unlimited, deals 50 base cold damage over 3 seconds.
Future Strike
Deals void damage at end of duration. Stack limit is unlimited, deals 60 base void damage all at once upon duration ending (3 seconds).
Glancing Blow
Taking a Glancing Blow will reduce the damage taken by 35%. The cap for Glancing Blows is 100%. Anything more than 100% will have no effect. Glancing Blows does not protect you from damage over time effects.
Haste
Increases movement speed. +30% increased movement speed over 4 seconds.
Ignite
Deals fire damage over time. Stack limit is unlimited, deals 40 base fire damage over 2.5 seconds.
Marked For Death
Your resistances are 25% lower. Stack limit is 1, lasts 8 seconds.
Plague
Deals poison damage over time and spreads between enemies. Stack limit is 1, deals 150 base poison damage over 4 seconds.
Poison
Deals poison damage over time and reduces poison resistance. Stack limit is unlimited, deals 28 base poison damage over 3 seconds, shreds 5% poison resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Shock
Reduces lightning resistance and increases chance to be stunned. Stack limit is 10, lasts 4 seconds. 20% increased chance to stun, shreds 5% lightning resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Shred Armor
Reduces armor, increasing damage taken from hits. Stack limit is unlimited, lasts 4 seconds, 100 reduced armor per stack.
Dusk Shroud
Adds +50 Dodge Rating and a 5% Chance to receive a Glancing Blow when hit.
Crimson Shroud
Additional Bleed Chance and less damage taken over time.
Shred Cold Resistance
Reduces cold resistance. Stack limit is 10, lasts 4 seconds. 5% reduced cold resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Shred Fire Resistance
Reduces fire resistance. Stack limit is 10, lasts 4 seconds. 5% reduced fire resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Shred Lightning Resistance
Reduces lightning resistance. Stack limit is 10, lasts 4 seconds. 5% reduced lightning resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Shred Necrotic Resistance
Reduces necrotic resistance. Stack limit is 10, lasts 4 seconds. 5% reduced necrotic resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Shred Physical Resistance
Reduces physical resistance. Stack limit is 10, lasts 4 seconds. 5% reduced physical resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Shred Poison Resistance
Reduces poison resistance. Stack limit is 10, lasts 4 seconds. 5% reduced poison resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Shred Void Resistance
Reduces void resistance. Stack limit is 10, lasts 4 seconds. 5% reduced void resistance per stack (60% less effective against bosses).
Silver Shroud
Dodge your next hit and gain ward per stack.
Slow
Reduces movement speed. Stack limit is 3, lasts 4 seconds. 20% less movement speed for the duration.
Spirit Plague
Deals necrotic damage over time and spreads to another enemy on death if it hasn't expired. Stack limit is 1, deals 90 base necrotic damage over 3 seconds.
Low Health
Enemies are considered Low Health when they drop below 35% Health.
High Health
Enemies are considered Low Health when they are above 65% Health.
Spreading Flames
Deals fire damage over time and spreads to nearby enemies after 0.6s. Stack limit is 1, deals 140 base fire damage over 4 seconds.
Time Rot
Deals void damage over time and increases received stun duration. Stack limit is 12, deals 55 base void damage over 3 seconds. +5% increased duration of stuns received.
