Soulfire Bastion Guide for Last Epoch
The Soulfire Bastion dungeon has a unique mechanic that makes you collect the Souls of your enemies, and use them for protection, or trade them with the Soul Gambler for some of the rarest loot in the game. In this guide, we will cover everything you need to know about this dungeon.
Introduction
Dungeons are a big part of the endgame in Last Epoch. One of the most rewarding and important dungeons is the Soulfire Bastion Dungeon, as it will give access to the Soul Gambler at the end.
The Soul Gambler is a mysterious entity that can offer you amazing rewards, but also great risks. In this guide, we will tell you everything you need to know about this dungeon.
How to Enter the Dungeon
To enter the Soulfire Bastion, you need a Soulfire Bastion Key. These keys can drop from random enemies, and can also be farmed from Timeline bosses, as well as within the Arena of Champions. Keep in mind, though, that the Arena has a very low drop rate, so it is not the most recommended way to target-farm dungeon keys.
Once you have a key, you can head to the dungeon and enter. The Soulfire Bastion Dungeon is located in Thetima, within the Lake Liath area (next to The Felled Wood) of the Imperial Era. You can head to the Outcast Camp and follow the way until The Risen Lake to have access to The Felled Wood, and then head to The Soulfire Bastion.
If you are in a party with someone else, you can enter a dungeon even if only one of you holds the dungeon key.
Elements and Resistances
Each dungeon features a unique elemental theme. The Soulfire Bastion is all about Fire and Necrotic Damage, so make sure you have enough Fire and Necrotic Resistance to survive.
Dungeon Mechanic - Souls and Soulfire Shield
In this dungeon, you will encounter a unique mechanic: Souls. You can collect Souls by killing enemies, and use them for different purposes. You can either use Souls to shield yourself from damage, or gamble them for a chance to get better rewards.
The Soulfire Bastion dungeon has a high risk, high reward system. You can not revive if you die in the dungeon. Furthermore, if you die, you will lose all your progress and loot, and you will be kicked out of the dungeon. You will need a new key to enter again. However, you can team up with other players to make the dungeon easier. But be careful! If you die in a party, you will still be kicked out, and you will not get any loot. The other players can continue the dungeon without you.
In this dungeon, you will have access to a special mechanic: the Soulfire Shield. This ability will create a shield around you that will reduce either Fire or Necrotic damage, depending on the color of the shield. You will need to use this ability wisely, to protect yourself from the boss's attacks. The boss can deal a lot of damage with its fire and necrotic skills, and you might die in one hit if you are not careful. However, using the Soulfire Shield will consume Souls, which are also the currency that you can use to gamble for rewards at the end of the dungeon. So, you will have to balance between using Souls for defense or saving them for the Soul Gambler.
Layout
All dungeons will follow a similar layout: two map sections, and an arena with the boss. You have to travel through both maps, and open a door to access the next one. The first door will lead to the second map, while the second door will lead to the boss.
Unlike other games, maps inside the dungeons are not randomized, but some roads will randomly be blocked each run. The doors that separate each map will always have a road leading to them, but it may not always be the same one.
Enemies
Among many basic enemies, this dungeon also has some challenging enemies that can pose a serious threat.
Special enemies
There are four tougher enemies that will cause you trouble; two of them deal Fire Damage and two of them deal Necrotic Damage.
- The Immortal Incinerator has a fire beam attack that can deal a lot of damage. You can use the Soulfire Shield to reduce the damage, or you can dodge the attack by moving away from it quickly.
- The Searing Flesh can slam the ground with its fist, creating a shockwave that can hit you from close or far. This attack deals both Fire and Physical damage, so the Soulfire Shield will not protect you completely. You should try to avoid the attack by moving out of its range.
- The Possessed Construct is a sneaky enemy that can spawn outside your vision and shoots a necrotic projectile at you. You might not see the attack coming, so you should always keep moving when you are not protected by the Necrotic Shield. This way, you can dodge the attack if the enemy spawns and fires at you.
- The Possessed Golem has a Necrotic AoE attack that can bounce back and hit you twice. You need to be careful of where the attack lands the first time, so you can avoid the second hit. You can also use the Necrotic Shield to reduce damage, but it is better to dodge the attack altogether.
Boss - Cremorus
The Soulfire Bastion dungeon has one boss: Cremorus.
Before you enter the boss room, you should clear out all trash (random enemies) inside the dungeon. You will need Souls for the Shield and the Gambler after you defeat the boss, so make sure to collect as many as you can.
Cremorus is a tough and powerful boss. You will need to use the Soulfire Shield at the right time to survive his attacks. Furthermore, Cremorus will alternate between Fire and Necrotic abilities, so you will need to switch the Shield color accordingly.
The arena is designed to favor the boss; Cremorus can activate some tiles on the ground that will deal Necrotic Damage over time to anyone who steps on them. The more you damage Cremorus, the more tiles will be activated, until the whole floor is covered. The floor damage will also change type between Fire and Necrotic.
The boss has only one phase, but it becomes more dangerous as its health drops. We recommend you save your immunity switch for when the floor is completely covered, as the other attacks can be dodged, but the floor damage cannot be avoided, and you will take constant damage over time (DoT).
Make sure to go into this fight with as much Fire and Necrotic Resistance as possible. Tier 1 and Tier 2 dungeons should be manageable for anyone, but higher tiers will require you to use a movement skill that makes you invincible for a moment, such as Teleport, Shift, Transplant, or Lunge. You will need to put these skills in a specialization slot with the proper buff activated.
Another option is to get a cleanse that can remove the dots from you from time to time, such as a potion that gives you Ward and ailment cleansing, or a skill that cleanses you and your allies.
The fight becomes very hard at Tier 4, as the floor will deal a lot of damage if you don't switch the shield on time. The boss's other attacks are not too hard to dodge. Be careful when you switch the shield and make sure to get rid of any DoT before you do. If you switch to Necrotic Damage Reduction while you have the Fire DoT, you might die. When the boss summons a Thrall or something that chases you, keep running until it stops or explodes, because it will hurt a lot. As a final tip, don't run towards other players. You don't want to set them on fire by mistake.
Difficulty
Dungeon Tiers
Dungeons have four levels (4 Tiers) of difficulty that can be selected once unlocked. The first time you enter a dungeon, you will only have access to Tier 1 difficulty. To unlock Tier 2, you will need to clear the dungeon in Tier 1 first. The same applies to Tier 3 and Tier 4. Each tier will make the enemies harder and add some modifiers to the dungeon.
Higher tiers will also give access to certain uniques that Cremorus will drop, as well as better modifiers for the Soul Gambler.
