Temporal Sanctum Guide for Last Epoch
The Temporal Sanctum is one of the hardest dungeons in Last Epoch. It has a unique time travel mechanic that lets you switch from one era to another. To access the Eternity Cache, you have to defeat the powerful Chronomancer Julra. As a reward, you will be able to craft legendary items! In this guide, we will learn everything you need to know about the Temporal Sanctum.
Introduction
Last Epoch is a game that offers many endgame activities. One of them is exploring dungeons, where you can find unique and powerful loot.
The Temporal Sanctum is one of the most rewarding dungeons in the game, as it will give you access to the Legendary Crafting System. In this guide, we will tell you everything you need to know about this dungeon.
How to Enter the Dungeon
To enter the Temporal Sanctum, you need a Temporal Sanctum Key. These keys can drop from random enemies, and can also be farmed from Timeline bosses, as well as within the Arena of Champions. Keep in mind, though, that the Arena has a very low drop rate, so it is not the most recommended way to target-farm dungeon keys.
Once you have a key, you can head to the dungeon and enter. The Temporal Sanctum Dungeon is located in the Ruined Era. You can head to The Ruined Coast waypoint and follow the way until The Temporal Sanctum.
If you are in a party with someone else, you can enter a dungeon even if only one of you holds the dungeon key.
Elements and Resistances
Each dungeon features a unique elemental theme. The Temporal Sanctum is themed around Poison and Void Damage, so make sure you have enough Poison and Void Resistance to survive. Don't take Resistances lightly, as having under 75% can be deadly in higher tier dungeons.
Dungeon Mechanic - Temporal Shift
This dungeon has a unique and fun mechanic called Temporal Shift. The mechanic is simple and easy to use. You will have the Temporal Shift ability in the dungeon, which lets you travel between two different Eras: The Ruined Era and the Divine Era. You can switch between the Eras at any time in the dungeon, to overcome obstacles or avoid enemies or boss attacks. While within the Temporal Shift dungeon, you have complete power over time and space.
Of course, each Era will have its own enemies that are relevant to the timeline.
Layout
All dungeons will follow a similar layout: two map sections, and an arena with the boss. You have to travel through both maps, and open a door to access the next one. The first door will lead to the second map, while the second door will lead to the boss.
Unlike other games, maps inside the dungeons are not randomized, but some roads will randomly be blocked each run. The doors that separate each map will always have a road leading to them, but it may not always be the same one
Due to the Temporal Sanctum's particular mechanic, this dungeon will also have a Divine Era and a Ruined Era version of each layout, since you will switch between both eras with the Temporal Shift. The differences between the two are not major, only roadblocks will be positioned differently.
Enemies
Among many basic enemies, this dungeon also has some challenging enemies that can pose a serious threat.
Special enemies
There are five tougher enemies that will cause you trouble; two Poison Damage enemies and three Void Damage enemies. They are not extremely dangerous, but they possess some mechanics that should be avoided:
- Void Husk Nagasa: These are a special kind of Nagasa that only live in the Ruined Era. They come in two varieties: the common ones that deal regular Void Damage, and the rare ones that unleash a Putrefying Beam. This is a large purple beam that falls from the sky and causes void damage over time. You can see it coming and avoid it.
- Void Nightmare: Not very dangerous, as long as you dodge their attacks. They have two moves: a charge and a beam, both dealing void damage. They will point their nose in the direction they are going to charge or beam, so you can move out of the way.
- Festering Cultist: Deal high Void and Physical Damage, and can lower your Armor and Void Resistance. It is better to keep your distance from them. Even the strongest builds should not try to face them head-on at Tier 4.
- Gorgon: The Gorgon is a multi-headed snake that creates a huge poison tornado that grows bigger over time and deals high Poison Damage. Do not step into the tornado!
- Temporal Hunter: These are smaller snakes that are easy to beat, but watch out for their numbers. They can teleport to you and follow you, and they inflict 5 stacks of poison, which can quickly kill you.
Chronomancer Julra
Julra is a Chronomancer who has been tampering with the Eternity Cache in the Temporal Sanctum. Their experiments have caused time to rip apart, causing two timelines to overlap inside the dungeon.
This boss is very hard to beat. Julra can use any ability at any time, and there is no way to tell when or where they will strike. The boss also uses different elements, so you need to have capped Lightning, Cold, and Void resistances.
During the fight, you will have to use the Temporal Shift to dodge some abilities that only exist in one Era. But be careful, switching Era too much will make the fight harder for you. Only switch when you really need to. Read more about the Dimension Tear ability below.
We will go over each ability Julra is able to use, and explain the best ways to avoid them:
- Dimension Tear: When you switch Era, Julra will create a Dimensional Tear under you that will follow you for a bit, then stay on the ground. Use this time to go to the edge of the Arena, so the Tear won't be in the way. The Dimension Tears will last for the whole fight. The more you switch Era and the longer the fight goes, the more Tears will be around you. Don't switch Era unless you have to, and don't step into the Tears as they do high Void damage over time.
- Pillars: Julra will summon three Pillars during the fight. They are different in each Era. In the Divine Era, they are harmless and can be destroyed. In the Ruined Era, they are indestructible and will shoot lightning bolts in many directions that deal Lightning Damage and Shock. You have to shift to the Divine Era to destroy the Pillars. You should do it as soon as you can, because if you go back to the Ruined Era, they will make it harder for you. But be careful, switching Era will make another Dimension Tear. If you are in the Ruined Era when the Pillars appear, wait until you need to go to the Divine Era for something else, then switch and destroy the Pillars.
- Shocking Impact: The boss will fire electric bombs that will land and make a lightning circle on the ground, dealing Lightning Damage. You can see the circle before the bomb hits, so you can move away. Sometimes, Julra will do a bigger version of this attack; the circle will be larger, and the damage will be higher.
- Healing Fountain: Julra will summon one or more Pillars that will heal the boss. Destroy them as fast as you can, but don't risk your life for it. The healing is not too much if you and your party do enough damage, but if you have to dodge attacks for a while, it can be a problem.
- Frigid Tide: This is a big frontal cone attack that will deal Cold damage and Chill. The attack is very fast, so you need to have a mobility skill ready to escape.
- Chilled Seeker: Julra will shoot three Ice projectiles that will chase you. You can't avoid them, but they only do low Cold damage, and shouldn't cause too much trouble.
- Catastrophic Implosion: This is the most deadly attack. Julra will start the fight with this attack, so be prepared. Julra will make a huge clock on the ground. The time will go very fast on the clock, and when it reaches 12 o'clock, a big void blast will hit the whole arena. If you get hit by this attack, you will get 4 stacks of Doom, dealing heavy void damage over time. At Tier 4, this attack will kill almost anyone, and if you survive, you will have very little time to remove the DoTs before they kill you. At lower Tier, this attack will still kill you if you are not prepared. The only way to dodge this attack is to Temporal Shift at the right time. If you are not sure, you can Shift as soon as you see the clock, but if you are confident, you can keep attacking Julra while the clock runs, and Shift just before it hits 12 o'clock. But be careful, and don't forget to Shift on time!
- Unraveling Decay: Four lightning beams will come from the center of the arena. They will make a cross, with a small gap in the middle of each beam. You have to stay in those gaps. The beams will spin clockwise in a circle. The hard part of this mechanic is to avoid all the other attacks that Julra will use, while staying in the safe spots of the beams. Melee builds will have a hard time, because Julra will sometimes go inside the beams, and they will be too far to attack the boss.
- Temporal Shot: This attack is not very dangerous and should be easy to avoid. Julra will shoot a small frontal lightning projectile. You will see lightning on the ground before the shot, allowing you to move away.
Difficulty
Dungeon Tiers
Dungeons have four levels (4 Tiers) of difficulty that can be selected once unlocked. The first time you enter a dungeon, you will only have access to Tier 1 difficulty. To unlock Tier 2, you will need to clear the dungeon in Tier 1 first. The same applies to Tier 3 and Tier 4. Each tier will make the enemies harder and add some modifiers to the dungeon.
Dungeon Modifiers
Each tier and each floor of a dungeon will have different modifiers that affect the gameplay. Each modifier also gives different rewards for completing the dungeon. Every time you enter a new floor, you will get a new modifier.

Rewards
Besides the usual loot such as gear, experience, and gold, you can also get some special items that are exclusive to this dungeon.
Boss Uniques
Julra has a chance of dropping up to four different Unique items depending on the difficulty Tier:
- Tier 1+: Julra's Stardial (Unique Ring)
- Tier 2+: Somnia (Unique Helmet)
- Tier 3+: Julra's Obsession (Unique Gloves)
- Tier 4+: Vessel of Strife (Unique Relic)
Eternity Cache
The most important system that opens up by playing through this dungeon is the ability to craft Legendaries.
After you defeat Julra, you can enter a door that leads you to the Eternity Cache. In there, you will be able to combine exalted and unique items with Legendary Potential in order to create powerful Legendary items.
The crafting system is easy to learn: In the Eternity Cache, put a unique item with legendary potential and an Exalted item of the same kind with at least 1 unsealed affix. The amount of legendary potential on your Unique item will determine the number of affixes that will be transferred from your Exalted item onto your Legendary item, and any sealed affix on your Exalted item will not be transferred from the Exalted item. For example, if the Legendary is a ring, use an Exalted ring; if it is a helmet, use an Exalted helmet; and so on. If your Exalted item has two unsealed affixes and your Unique item has one legendary potential, the Eternity Cache will transfer one of the two unsealed affixes into your new Legendary. There is no way to predetermine which affix will be chosen, as it is random.
When both items are in place, use the Temporal Shift ability to go from the Divine Era to the Ruined Era. You can then take your new Legendary item!
Additionally, the Eternity Cache will only accept items with a specific item level, which varies depending on the dungeon tier you are currently in:
- Tier 1 Dungeon: Uniques with an item level of 50 or below can be used in the Eternity Cache.
- Tier 2 Dungeon: Uniques with an item level of 65 or below can be used in the Eternity Cache.
- Tier 3 Dungeon: Uniques with an item level of 75 or below can be used in the Eternity Cache.
- Tier 4 Dungeon: Any Unique item can be used in the Eternity Cache.
Furthermore, there will be a stash available right next to the Eternity Cache, eliminating the need to bring the items with you.
Remember that you can only craft one legendary per dungeon run. If you want to farm legendaries this way, you will need to do multiple dungeon runs.
