Balahara Combat Guide

Balahara possesses a diverse set of attacks, utilizing its elongated, worm-like body to strike with both its head and tail. If you are positioned directly in front of Balahara, there is a high likelihood that it will lunge forward in an attempt to bite you. Meanwhile, if you are standing slightly to the side but still within its frontal range, it may execute a delayed head swipe, swinging from one side to the other. To effectively handle these attacks, always be prepared to counter or evade its bites using the appropriate techniques for your weapon of choice.

Balahara utilizes mucus-based projectiles as part of its offensive arsenal, which can be both annoying and dangerous if not handled properly. Occasionally, it will spit a single glob of mucus at the hunter when standing directly in front of it. At times, Balahara may raise its head high and proceed to vomit continuously for several seconds, covering a wider area.

A more devastating variation occurs when Balahara lifts its head extremely high with a longer delay, signaling a powerful projectile explosion that will strike the ground directly below. This is its most destructive attack, and it is crucial to avoid standing in front of it when it happens. If using a Long Sword, precise timing on a counterattack can mitigate the damage or a well timed shield block if using a weapon that has a shield and even a Greatsword's guard.

If a hunter is positioned behind Balahara or near its tail, it will attempt to strike with tail swipes in various ways. Occasionally, Balahara will twist its head toward its back and spit mucus behind itself to force the hunter away. This move is easy to overlook, so always stay alert when attacking from behind.

One of Balahara’s most dangerous attacks is its Tail Torpedo Launch. It will slowly aim its tail at the hunter, pausing momentarily before launching itself forward at high speed. This attack deals significant damage and can be difficult to endure if caught off guard. As soon as you notice Balahara aligning its tail toward you, immediately dodge to the side or prepare to block the impact with a shielded weapon. By keeping these attack patterns in mind and reacting accordingly, you can effectively minimize damage while creating opportunities to counterattack.

It is highly recommended to focus on severing Balahara’s tail right from the start of the fight, as doing so will significantly reduce the reach and effectiveness of its attacks. Bringing a cutting weapon is essential for this task, and once the tail is severed, you can switch to any weapon of your choice to finish the battle more comfortably.

As for the best time to attack, there are no distinct openings where Balahara becomes highly vulnerable, so the key is to strike whenever possible while carefully blocking and dodging in between its attacks. However, when it enters a tired state, its movements slow down considerably, making its attacks more predictable and easier to counter. This is the ideal moment to land heavier damage, so be sure to take advantage of it.

When mounting Balahara, there are three key areas where wounds can be created: the head, the back, and near the tail. It is recommended to wound all three areas before triggering any of them. When deciding which wound to activate first, prioritize the middle one, as it is generally the hardest to reach with most weapons.

One more important detail to keep in mind is that if Balahara is near a pillar or elevated structure, it may climb up and begin vomiting mucus from above, making it harder to reach. When this happens, use your Hook Slinger to pull down the structure it is clinging to, forcing Balahara to fall and take massive damage upon impact. This tactic not only interrupts its attack but also creates an excellent opportunity to deal significant damage.

Enraged State

When Balahara gets into his enraged state he will start to burrow underground and attempt to damage the hunter with surprise attacks. To counter this, always bring Screamer Pods with you. If you forget to bring them, you can still acquire some mid-hunt by obtaining them from the flying wing drakes called Baunos by using your hook slinger. You can find Baunos scattered around the dune region of the Windward Plains. Balahara may also start creating sandpit around the environment trying to suck you into his underground domain. Use your Seikret to quickly get away and find a safer spot to fight him

Be sure to use your Screamer Pods only after Balahara is fully underground, as shooting them out while it is still burrowing will have no effect. When used correctly, the Screamer Pod will force Balahara to leap out of the sand and struggle on the ground for a few seconds, creating a perfect opportunity to unleash your strongest attacks. Take advantage of this opening to deal significant damage, and by repeating this strategy effectively, you’ll bring Balahara down in no time.

Conclusion

And that’s the strategy for taking down Balahara. If you’re still having difficulty, consider utilizing traps to control its movements and create openings for attacks. Additionally, bringing Large Barrel Bombs can provide an extra source of high burst damage, making the fight even more manageable. With the right approach, you’ll be able to slay Balahara with ease.
