Chatacabra Combat Guide

When Chatacabra is first engaged, it will always begin by licking its forelimbs, coating them with earthen materials to reinforce their strength and armor. This action increases its durability, making subsequent attacks more punishing. Immediately after fortifying itself, Chatacabra typically follows up with a wide licking motion, sweeping its tongue from right to left across whatever is in front of it. If the monster gets close to the hunter, it may execute a forward lunge lick, which can inflict damage and cause slippage due to the saliva. To avoid this, simply ensure you are not standing directly in front of it when this move occurs.

Occasionally, Chatacabra will raise either its left or right forelimb, pausing briefly before attempting a powerful slam attack. This move is slow and highly telegraphed, making it easy to evade. To stay safe, avoid standing beneath or on the same side as the incoming attack.

If Chatacabra manages to land two consecutive licks on the hunter in quick succession, the hunter will be knocked down. Following this, Chatacabra will immediately attempt a slam attack, either with the left or right forelimb, which inflicts significant damage. If caught in this combo, the only way to avoid the finishing slam is to dodge before the attack lands.

When you mount Chatacabra you can create two wound points. One on its head and another on its back. Make sure to create two wounds before popping one of them off. This way you have the other wound ready to be popped right after with your focus strike. As a relatively easy but enjoyable monster to hunt, Chatacabra shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge.

7.

Enraged State

When Chatacabra enters its enraged state, steam will begin to vent from its nostrils. During this phase, it may attempt to leap into the air and execute a belly flop. Hunters have two primary defensive options. You may dodge out of the way before impact or block the attack using a weapon that has a shield or by using the Greatsword. Once Chatacabra lands, it will remain vulnerable for an extended period, making this the ideal time to unleash your strongest combos.

The amount of damage inflicted will vary based on your weapon choice, skill level, and knowledge of your moveset. Additionally, while enraged, Chatacabra may perform a three-hit slam combo. A single-arm slam with either the left or right forelimb that then chains into another slam with the opposite forelimb. And then right after that a devastating double-armed slam which is its most powerful attack. Once again, you can either just block one of the attacks or just simply dodge out of the way.

When Chatacabra becomes fatigued, it will drop its head to the ground and extend its tongue momentarily. This exposed tongue is a major weak spot, providing an opportunity to deal massive damage. By holding down and then pressing while aiming, hunters can execute a focus strike for optimal damage output.

8.

Conclusion

That concludes an overview of Chatacabra’s attack patterns. The key to success lies in attacking during its vulnerable moments, particularly after it belly flops or enters its tired state. Its face remains its most susceptible body part, so aim for it whenever possible.

However, if you find yourself struggling, consider utilizing environmental hazards such as boulder traps to knock it down and deal additional damage. Likewise, traps combined with explosive barrels can significantly increase your damage output, making the hunt even more efficient.
