Congalala Combat Guide

Let’s go over Congalala’s strengths, weaknesses, and attack patterns, along with the best strategies for fighting it. To maximize damage output and achieve the fastest kill times, bring a Fire or Ice elemental weapon. Congalala is equally susceptible to all status ailments, including Poison, Sleep, Paralysis, Blast, and Stun, so you can use whichever best fits your preferred playstyle. All forms of crowd-control tools such as Flash Pods, Shock Traps, and Pitfall Traps are effective against it, with the only exception being Sonic Bombs, which are completely useless.

For optimal damage, aim for Congalala’s head, as it is its most vulnerable weak spot, followed by its forelegs and tail. While the torso and hind legs still take decent damage, they are not ideal targets if you want to maximize DPS. Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s break down Congalala’s attack moves and identify the best opportunities to strike.

Occasionally, Congalala will exhale a cloud of foul breath, while slightly tilting its head to the side. Never stand in front of it during this attack. Instead, position yourself to its left and attack its head without stepping into the breath cloud. This move is completely avoidable, and depending on your weapon, you can land several hits while it exhales.

Congalala will sometimes attempt a belly slam, where it raises its entire body before crashing down onto the ground. This move can be dodged, blocked, countered, or offset, so react accordingly based on your weapon choice. When its belly is on the floor, take advantage of the opening to land a few quick hits.

One of Congalala’s frequent attack sequences involves slashing wildly with its arms while moving forward, followed by falling to the ground and running out of breath. This moment of exhaustion is the perfect window for attacking. Every part of this sequence is blockable, counterable, and can be offset, especially with the Long Sword, so adjust your approach based on your weapon’s mechanics.

Congalala also has a unique ability where it consumes different types of mushrooms, granting it temporary elemental attacks. For example, if it eats a Parashroom, it will begin exhaling paralysis gas beneath itself. If caught in this, you will be paralyzed for several seconds, leaving you vulnerable.

If Congalala runs out of mushrooms, it will perform a sniffing animation, which serves as a prime opportunity to deal damage. Afterward, it will dig through the ground, eat whatever mushroom it finds, and gain a new elemental breath attack depending on the mushroom type. These include Poison, Fire, and others, so be aware of what it consumes before positioning yourself. When it initiates a breath attack, maneuver to its sides or behind it for safe attacks

Another move in its arsenal is a circus-like leap, where it jumps into the air and belly flops onto its target. Like any other melee attack, this can be offset, countered, or blocked. If you are standing directly in front of Congalala, it may also attempt to maul you by swiping one of its hands across your body.

Then, of course, we have Congalala’s most infamous move—farting. If you stand behind it and poke its rear with a melee weapon, it may let one rip. If you are caught in the stench cloud, you will be unable to use any items from your inventory. The only way to clear this debuff is by using Deodorant, which removes the stench effect and allows you to use items again.

Additionally, Congalala may occasionally throw poop at you using its tail if you are positioned at long range, which inflicts a debuff. It also has a quick forward-leaping charge attack, so be mindful of these two moves.

If Congalala runs out of stamina and enters a tired state, it will lose the ability to perform its breath attacks. When attempting to exhale an elemental cloud, nothing will come out of its mouth. This is the perfect time to go all-out, as it essentially grants free massive damage.

That covers Congalala’s entire moveset and the combat guide. Regarding mounting opportunities, it has only two woundable areas—the head and back. Always create wounds on both, then pop the wound on its back and leave the head wound for when you are dismounted to maximize damage output.

Enraged State

When Congalala gets angry, he just attacks faster in between his moves and farts more often, other than that there is not much else of a difference. You'll have to be a bit quicker with your reactions and anticipations but that is about it.

8.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Congalala is not a particularly difficult monster to fight. Truth be told, it is one of my favorite returning monsters, and I’m glad that new players get to experience it for the first time. It serves as a comedic relief fight, more so than a serious challenge. If you are still struggling to defeat this smelly primate, consider using traps or explosive kegs to make the fight easier. And with that, you now have everything you need to hunt and slay Congalala.
