Doshaguma Monster Guide for Monster Hunter Wilds
Learn how to defeat Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds. Our Doshaguma guide covers everything from weaknesses and resistances to carves and rewards as well as a complete guide on Doshaguma's combat mechanics.
Doshaguma Introduction
Doshaguma is the sixth monster you will encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds within the Windward Plains, appearing right after Balahara. From my personal experience, I actually find Doshaguma to be slightly easier than Balahara, mainly because his attacks are slower, and he doesn’t move around erratically like a wiggly worm. Additionally, his larger physical width makes him much easier to hit. Interestingly, his enraged state actually makes him even easier to defeat, which I will explain later. He is also the first herd pack monster you will face, so keep that in mind.

Doshaguma Combat Guide
Doshaguma is the sixth monster you will encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds within the Windward Plains, appearing right after Balahara. From my personal experience, I actually find Doshaguma to be slightly easier than Balahara, mainly because his attacks are slower, and he doesn’t move around erratically like a wiggly worm. Additionally, his larger physical width makes him much easier to hit. Interestingly, his enraged state actually makes him even easier to defeat, which I will explain later. He is also the first herd pack monster you will face, so keep that in mind.
Let’s go over Doshaguma’s strengths, weaknesses, and attack patterns, along with the best strategies for dealing with him. Doshaguma is a Fanged Beast that relies purely on brute strength rather than elemental attacks or enhancements. He is weakest to Fire, followed by Thunder as his second weakest element. He does not have any immunities, but he does have a high resistance to Dragon, so it is highly recommended not to use dragon-infused weapons when farming him for materials. Paralysis, Poison, Sleep, Stun, and Blast are all equally effective against him, so you are free to choose any ailment-based strategy that suits your playstyle.
Now that we’ve covered the basics, let's go over Doshaguma’s attack moves and the best opportunities to go on the offensive. As always, opening the fight with a sneak attack is ideal for maximizing damage early on. However, since Alpha Doshaguma is typically surrounded by his smaller pack members, countering their roars may prove difficult, as any of them can stunlock you for a few seconds. As soon as you recover from the stun, make sure to use a large dung pod—the larger version will allow you to spray all of them with dung, forcing them to scatter and flee.
This technique isolates the Alpha Doshaguma, allowing you to fight him one-on-one, or as I like to call it, human vs. beast. Another useful detail worth mentioning is that Alpha Doshaguma is easily identified by his bright red mane and larger physical size compared to his pack. Regular Doshaguma have yellow fur, are significantly smaller, and have lower health pools, making them much easier to defeat.
Doshaguma’s moveset can be best described as that of an enraged grizzly bear, using claw swipes, slams, and head lunges to overwhelm hunters. One of his attacks involves stepping back slightly, then lifting his entire body before slamming down on you with one of his front limbs, which function as powerful arms. As always, this attack can be blocked, offset, or countered, depending on the weapon you are using.
Sometimes, he will execute a sideways head lunge with a bite, which can be avoided by moving to the opposite side. On other occasions, he may also perform a forward head lunge. The best body part to target is his face, but as expected, this is also the most dangerous place to be, so stay cautious at all times. He may also drag one of his front limbs across the ground, attempting to knock you off balance. This attack does not deal significant damage, but it is still worth paying attention to. If you are using a Long Sword, you can capitalize on this move by using it to build up your weapon gauge.
His most powerful and dangerous attack involves him lifting his entire body before slamming down with his full body weight directly in front of him. You do not want to be near him when this happens unless you are perfectly timing a counter, offset, or block. Doshaguma also has a Power Clash mechanic, meaning that if you are using a weapon with a shield or a Greatsword, you can trigger a Power Clash for additional damage if you are skilled at guarding.
When Doshaguma is in a fatigued state, he becomes incredibly easy to punish. Some of his attacks cause him to fumble and fall over on his own, and his movement slows dramatically, making his attack animations much easier to read and react to. His tired state is by far the best window for optimal damage, so whatever weapon you are using, go on the offensive as much as possible.
If you really want to maximize your damage output, you can also set up a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap, then use a Luring Pod to pull him into it immediately after his fatigued state ends. This allows you to continue dealing heavy damage and snowball yourself into an easy victory.
Enraged State
That covers most of his basic moveset, and to be quite honest, there isn’t too much more to it. However, everything changes once he enters his enraged state. During this phase, his attack speed increases, he becomes significantly more aggressive, and he gains access to several new devastating moves.
One of these is a 360-degree swipe attack, which hits everything in its vicinity, regardless of where you are positioned. Because of this, always be prepared to dodge or block it when necessary. Another highly dangerous move involves him lowering his head and charging forward, covering a short distance along the ground. This attack deals a considerable amount of damage, so be prepared to react accordingly.
The most dangerous move in his enraged state is when he slams into the ground with his entire body, causing an upheaval effect that triggers a mini earthquake. If you are caught in this attack, you are essentially finished, as it will either one-shot you outright or leave you on the brink of death, depending on your health pool and defensive buffs.
One final, yet bizarre, detail worth mentioning about Doshaguma’s enraged state is that random wounds will begin appearing on his body. I’m not entirely sure why Capcom decided on this mechanic, but if anything, it actually makes the fight easier rather than more challenging. These automatic wounds allow hunters to pop multiple weak spots in succession, which significantly lowers the difficulty of the fight. Perhaps it represents the idea that he is using every last ounce of his strength before ultimately succumbing to his wounds. Regardless of the reason, take full advantage of this mechanic and finish him off quickly.
Conclusion
In conclusion, that is how you should approach the fight against Doshaguma. If you are struggling, consider using environmental traps to gain the upper hand or craft additional traps to make the encounter easier.
One pro tip is that you can lure Doshaguma into a group of Tailoth to deal extra damage. These creatures will jump onto him and start biting, dealing a surprising amount of damage over time, so it’s worth attempting if they are nearby. Lastly, don’t forget to use explosive kegs for additional burst damage. And with that, you now have everything you need to successfully hunt and slay Doshaguma.
