In Monster Hunter Wilds fishing is an exciting activity that can help your Hunter gain guild points, rewards and valuable materials. In this guide you will explore the various ways fishing is used, how to fish, locations of water spots, using the rod and much more essential information that will benefit your Hunter at the start of your fishing journey in the open world!

What is Fishing in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Fishing in Monster Hunter Wilds is an activity undertaken by the Hunter where a rod is used in open water sources across different locations to collect numerous types of fish. These different types of fish will reward you with various materials like scales which can then be used in crafting, alternatively fish themselves can be used as ingredients in cooking, giving the hunter different buffs.

How do you fish in Monster Hunter Wilds?

To use your fishing rod in Monster Hunter Wilds you will need to first navigate your item bar at the bottom right of the screen and equip the fishing rod. As the rod is part of your game inventory you will always have access to it. Additionally you can also use a capture net to catch numerous fish at one time if they are grouped in one spot. Once the rod is equipped you can use the following buttons to start your catch:

What Are the Controls for Using the Fishing Rod?

To lure fish to your bait you will need to move the reel around to get a bite. Once you have a bite reel in the rod to collect the fish and obtain any items.

You can view all types of fish that you have caught in the Start Menu > Info > Monster Field Guide > Aquatic Life Field Guide. Here it will also tell you how many you have caught, biggest size, and known habitats.

When searching for specific types of fish you may find that they haven't yet spawned or specific weather requirements haven't been met. An easy way to catch the fish you want is to change the weather to Plenty by entering your tent or using the portable BBQ Grill and selecting Rest. This will cost you 300 Guild Points and can only be used once high rank is reached.

What Materials Can be Obtained from Fish?

When you catch a fish you can obtain various types and amounts of scales depending on the type of fish collected. The larger the fish the more amount of scales you will get. Each scale will have unique abilities such as healing, increasing firepower when combined with bombs, restore sharpness and more. You can craft the scales for use in enhancing the hunters equipment as well as crafting various things such as sticky ammo.
