Guardian Fulgur Anjanath Combat Guide
Let’s talk about Guardian Fulgur Anjanath’s strengths, weaknesses, and how best to take him down. For optimal damage and a faster clear, make sure to bring an ice, water, or dragon-elemental weapon. He’s particularly vulnerable to status effects like sleep, paralysis, blast, and stun, though poison isn’t very effective. Utility-wise, everything works on him—flash pods, shock traps, and pitfall traps—with the only exception being sonic bombs, which are completely ineffective.
Guardian Fulgur Anjanath is a fun and engaging fight with plenty of variety in his move set. Most of his attacks involve either full-body electric-charged movements or smaller, more direct actions like bites, kicks, and tail whips. I’ll walk you through all of them right here.
For most of the fight, you’ll likely be sticking close to his legs. When you’re underneath him, he may try to kick you with one of his feet. It’s an easy move to dodge, guard, counter, or offset and doesn’t deal too much damage—more of a flinch than anything else. Occasionally, if you’re to his side, he’ll follow up with a full-body slam. Like the kick, it’s very readable and easily handled with proper timing.
If you’re a Long Sword user, this fight will be especially enjoyable as most of his attacks are straight forward to counter. He’s also easy to trip since you’ll be landing a lot of hits on his legs. If you end up against a particularly large Guardian Fulgur Anjanath, hitting his tail or head might be more of a challenge unless you’re using high-reach weapons like the Great Sword, Long Sword, or Lance. For most players, sticking to the feet will be your safest bet.
From the front, he has a few notable attacks. One involves him lunging forward and biting to one side, then immediately following up with a second bite to the other side. Another attack starts with him pulling his head back slightly before swinging it in a wide arc, triggering an explosion. He’ll then quickly swipe his head back to the original side for a second explosion. This move hits harder than most, so be prepared to counter, dodge, offset, or guard.
There’s also a head-uppercut style attack where he dips his head low, moves forward, and then lifts it up forcefully, knocking hunters away if it connects. And if you’re behind him, be cautious of his classic 360-degree spin where his tail sweeps around to catch anyone out of position. Another variation has him repeatedly slamming his tail side to side—a move that’s easy to avoid by staying near his legs.
Enraged State
When Guardian Fulgur Anjanath enrages, he’ll start sparking heavily with electricity and a large crest will become visible on his nose. This crest only appears when he’s enraged. In this state, he becomes more aggressive and relies heavily on thunder-elemental attacks.
One of his signature enraged moves involves him roaring, stepping back, and then charging forward while setting off a trail of explosive bursts. It’s a dangerous move, so if you can time it well, try to offset or counter it. Otherwise, guard or dodge to stay safe. After this charge, he’ll often pause briefly, which is your chance to deal some serious damage.
Another dangerous attack is when he slams his head into the ground, triggering a delayed shock explosion. If you see this coming, make sure to back off quickly. He also has a move where he steps back, leaps forward, and performs a rolling attack, covering a lot of distance while dishing out big damage if you’re caught in its path. On top of that, while enraged, Guardian Fulgur Anjanath might launch electrified shards from his mouth. These shards usually shoot out in a horizontal line, so be ready to sprint in one direction to avoid them.
Conclusion
All in all, Guardian Fulgur Anjanath can feel overwhelming at first. While the “Guardian” version is unique to Monster Hunter Wilds, but the core of the fight remains similar.
In the grand scheme of things, he’s not a particularly difficult opponent, though much depends on your familiarity with your weapon and how well you read his movements. Long Sword users will likely have an easier time countering his attacks, while those using shielded weapons won’t struggle much when guarding.
The main thing to watch out for are his charged electrical attacks—they pack the most punch. Beyond that, your strategy is simple: go for his feet, head, or tail depending on what’s most accessible and hack away until he’s down. His tempered version is slightly tougher due to the higher damage output and health pool, but it’s not a huge step up.If you do find yourself struggling, feel free to make use of traps and any environmental hazards in the area. Keep pressing him, and eventually, Guardian Fulgur Anjanath will run out of juice—literally.
