1.

Heavy Bowgun HR 1-7 Weapon Crafts

The first thing every hunter knows is keeping their weapon up to date for each hunt is the best path to success. You don't want to get caught in a dangerous hunt with an old one, so here we will cover a comfortable build path that will get you through low rank without needing to farm everything that shows up.

1.1.

Low Rank Heavy Bowgun Weapon Build Path

Hope Cannon III ➜ Bone Shooter II ➜ Bone Shooter III ➜ G Veldian Tormentum I
With these 4 steps you will comfortably keep up with the curve of monsters that come up through the main story, and cover some elemental weaknesses for some of the more dangerous fights that show up.

Hope Cannon III - Click for Materials
    • Dragonite Ore x 3
    • Machalite Ore x 2
  1. The Smithy should give you materials to upgrade this a couple of times. The Hope Cannon III also gets access to Ballistics and Critical Eye which allows you to shoot from further away, and increases your affinity. It is a Bowgun you can keep for a while at the start since it also has access to a good variety of different Ammo.
  2. Bone Shooter II - Click for Materials
    • Sturdy Bone x 2
    • Monster Fluid x 1
  3. Once you are able to craft the Bone Shooter II, switch to it. This grants you Attack Boost and Guard, allowing you to have increased attack power, and reduces knock backs and stamina depletion when guarding. The combination of Spread and Cluster Ammo makes it a very powerful weapon in most situations.
  4. Bone Shooter III - Click for Materials
    • Tough Guardian Bone x 2
  5. You can keep the Bone Shooter until you reach the end of Low Rank and simply upgrade it one step further. It is really the best HBG for any situation, thanks to its skills and Ammo possibilities.
  6. G Veldian Tormentum I - Click for Materials
    • Guardian Scale x 3
    • Guardian Pelt x 3
    • Guardian Blood x 1
    • Tough Guardian Bone x 2
  7. Right as you come toward the end of the main story, this is an excellent craft for the final fight and to bridge you into High Rank comfortably. This is also the first Bowgun that gives you access to Dragon Ammo, which will be very useful against all the upcoming enemies with dragon weakness.

Remember though, if you are struggling to deal with monsters and you have parts lying around for a weapon that fits better your own playstyle, don't hesitate to craft it. You can always go back and farm those parts again later if you need them for something else!

Key Skills for Heavy Bowgun

The Heavy Bowgun in Monster Hunter Wilds is a weapon type that does benefit from rushing a specific skill for gameplay reasons. What you will want to keep an eye out for is a set that contains that will increase your mobility.

The heavy Bogun suffers from being extremely slow, and unlike the Bow, it does not have an easy evade. During the early game, you will want to focus on skills such as Quick Sheathe or Evade Extender. Later on you should be more used to blocking at the proper moment, and can swap the mobility skills out for more damage with skills such as Burst.

3.

Heavy Bowgun HR 1-5 Armor Set

Below is the earliest set that can be put together with Quick Sheathe and Evade Extender. If you actively upgrade it, it should cover all your needs all the way through low rank.

Gear Decorations
Head Alloy Helm N/A
Chest Balahara Mail N/A
Gloves Balahara Vambraces N/A
Waist Balahara Coil N/A
Legs Alloy Greaves N/A
Talisman Blessing Charm I N/A

The Head, Chest and Legs will give you a level 3 Quick Sheathe which allows you to sheathe your Bowgun faster, giving you more mobility. The Gloves and Waist grant you Evade Extender which allows you to have a bit more room for evading until you master the Heavy Bowgun's Guarding.

The Blessing Charm is a good starting Talisman that you can craft rather early on.

When it comes to decorations, it is pretty limited how many you have access to early on, so I would recommend putting anything in that sounds like it would make combat more comfortable, such as Bandolier or Attack if you are lucky enough to get some.

3.1.

HR 1-5 Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses

  • Quick Sheathe - Level 3
  • Evade Extender - Level 3
  • Divine Blessing - Level 1
  • Master Mounter - 3-piece
4.

Heavy Bowgun HR 5-7+ Armor Set

Once you are deeper into the story and more parts are unlocked, you can move some of these early game comfort options around to go for a more offensive focused set.

Gear Decorations
Head G Ebony Helm N/A
Chest G Doshaguma Mail N/A
Gloves G Ebony Braces N/A
Waist G Ebony Coil N/A
Legs G Doshaguma Greaves N/A
Talisman Chain Charm I N/A

Looking toward High Rank, we will remove the Quick Seathe pieces in order to replace them with more offensive pieces. The goal will be to focus on Burst Damage paired with your Weapon and the Spread and Cluster Ammo duo. The use of more than one piece from this set will also grant you the Burst Boost skill, which extends the duration of the original Brust, and grants you +3 attack while it is active, giving you additional power. This set will give you enough power and possibilities to make it through the remaining Low Rank Monsters.

The 2-piece G Doshaguma set additionally increases your power and defense.

When it comes to decorations, it is pretty limited how many you have access to early on, so I would recommend putting anything in that sounds like it would make combat more comfortable, such as Bandolier or Chain if you are lucky enough to get some.

4.1.

HR 5-7+ Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses

  • Burst - Level 3
  • Bleeding Resistance - Level 1
  • Marathon Runner - Level 1
