Hunting Horn HR 1-8 Weapon Crafts
The first thing every hunter knows is keeping their weapon up-to-date for each hunt is the best path to success. You don't want to get caught in a dangerous hunt with an old weapon, so here we will cover a comfortable build path that will get you through low rank without needing to farm everything that shows up.
Low Rank Hunting Horn Weapon Build Path
Metal Bagpipe I ➜ Metal Bagpipe II ➜ Albirath Feroce I
The Hunting Horn really does not have many
- Machalite Ore x 1
- Earth Crystal x 2
- This is a great weapon to start off once you need to start looking into alternative Horn choices. This horn has Attack Boost and Earplugs which are both incredibly handy to have. The Echo Bubble provides Evasion and Movement Speed Up, but in Low Rank there is only a single offensive Echo Bubble horn.
- Lightcrystal x 1
- Icium x 2
- The Metal Bagpipe II is just a direct upgrade over the previous Horn. It again provides the same benefits of Attack Boost and Earplugs as the first bagpipe did now with a second level of Critical Draw and a lv1 slot.
- Guardian Rathalos Scale x 3
- Guardian Rathalos Webbing x 2
- Flame Sac x 1
- A Great weapon choice for a horn you can use leading into High Rank. It does deal Fire damage meaning if there are monsters who resist fire you should consider other weapon options for that fight.

Remember though, if you are struggling to deal with monsters and you have parts lying around for a weapon that fits better your own playstyle, don't hesitate to craft it. You can always go back and farm those parts again later if you need them for something else!
Hunting Horn HR 1-3 Armor Set
Honestly, between HR 1-3 you really do not need to worry about upgrading gear. The Hope Set is more than good enough while you may then want to focus on upgrading to the Doshaguma Set if you need the upgrades by the end of chapter 1.
Gear | Decorations | |
---|---|---|
Head | Doshaguma Helm | N/A |
Chest | Doshaguma Mail | N/A |
Gloves | Doshaguma Braces | N/A |
Waist | Balahara Coil | N/A |
Legs | Doshaguma Greaves | N/A |
Talisman | Blessing Charm I | N/A |
Starting with the Doshaguma Set grants you access to Free Meal which is just handy while progressing early on, but more importantly Doshaguma's Might which grants additional attack after an offset attack. Fortifying Pelt is also just nice against Rey Dau if you are fresh into the Monster Hunter franchise because Rey tends to be your first harder fight that can pose a challenge.
The Blessing Charm is a good starting Talisman that you can craft rather early on.
HR 1-3 Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses
- Free Meal - Level 3
- Critical Draw - Level 1
- Horn Maestro - Level 1
- Recovery Speed - Level 1
- Evade Extender - Level 1
- Divine Blessing - Level 1
- Doshaguma's Might - Level 2
- Fortifying Pelt - Level 3
Hunting Horn HR 4-5 Armor Set
Between Hunter Rank 4 and 5 if you feel the need to upgrade, use the set below. That being said, if you simply slot some Armor Spheres into your current gear your defenses will be more than enough to skip to the guardian set afterwords while you build a set for High Rank.
Gear | Decorations | |
---|---|---|
Head | Hirabami Headdress | N/A |
Chest | Hirabami Mail | N/A |
Gloves | Rey Sandbraces | N/A |
Waist | Rey Sandcoil | N/A |
Legs | Rey Sandgreaves | N/A |
Talisman | Evasion Charm I | N/A |
Between HR 4 and 5 you can invest into the Rey and Hirabami set's with the goal being to gain Evade Window from the Hirabami set and Lord's Favor from Rey Dau. Lord's Favor increases attack power when using effects like melodies that affect companions making this great for Co-Op. Instead of pieces that increase resistances, instead this set makes stamina much less of a worry with latent Power and Constitution.
An Evasion Charm can be great here just to help boost up your Evade Window a little further.
HR 4-5 Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses
- Evade Window - Level 3
- Critical Draw - Level 2
- Horn Maestro - Level 1
- Recovery Speed - Level 2
- Latent Power - Level 2
- Constitution - Level 2
- Rey Dau's Voltage - Level 1
- Lord's Favor - Level 1
Hunting Horn HR 6-8 Armor Set
This is the range where you want to begin investing further into your gear so that you are in a solid place for High Rank. The Guardian Pieces are great for this.
Gear | Decorations | |
---|---|---|
Head | G. Rathalos Helm | N/A |
Chest | G. Arkveld Mail | N/A |
Gloves | G. Ebony Braces | N/A |
Waist | G. Ebony Coil | N/A |
Legs | G. Arkveld Greaves | N/A |
Talisman | Chainblade Charm I | N/A |
This set using the Guardian monsters takes advantage of the set bonuses for both Arkveld and Ebony Odogaron with Flayer and Burst respectively. Another option instead could be to focus more on Rathalos to take advantage of Weakness Exploit and a WEX build.
An Evasion Charm can be great here just to help boost up your Evade Window a little further. This set does have room for decorations too however just fit in whatever you currently have that you feel may be useful. Decorations can be used again later so it doesnt cost you anything.
