Insect Glaive Low Rank Weapon Crafts

The Insect Glaive is one of the few weapons in the game that needs very little updating throughout your LR journey. One of the earliest weapons you can acquire ends up being strong enough to carry you through most of the Low Rank story!

1.1.

Low Rank Insect Glaive Weapon Build Path

Chata Glaive I ➜ Barina Perche I ➜ Chata Glaive II or Barina Perche II ➜ Chthonian Vajra I

Follow these 4 upgrade steps and you will have no problems keeping up with every monster that crosses your path during the main story. You can simply exchange the Chata Glaive upgrades for the Barina Perche weapon path instead if you prefer a safer, albeit a little slower, approach to the LR hunts.

Chata Glaive I - Click for Materials
    • Chatacabra Scale x3
    • Chatacabra Hide x2
    • Chatacabra Jaw x1
  1. The Chata Glaive is a great choice that will work well for the entirety of your LR journey! While the Chata Glaive I starts out a little weak, you can craft it after your very first hunt against the Chatacabra already. Once you get to hunt a Rompopolo, you can upgrade this weapon to the Chata Glaive II, which sports a very high base damage and enough green Sharpness to last for about half of a fight.
  2. Barina Perche I - Click for Materials
    • Lala Barina Shell x 3
    • Lala Barina Mucus x 2
    • Lala Barina Claw x 1
  3. The Barina Perche path is a great one, especially once you move into HR later. The weapon builds up the Paralysis status effect, which can interrupt enemy patterns and give you a few seconds of free damage uptime that can be very helpful to target specific weak points or cut off an enemy's tail. While it does not sport damage as high as that of the Chata Glaive, you will definitely want to craft one of these early on, even if you may end up not using it for a while.
  4. Chata Glaive II - Click for Materials
    • Rompopolo Claw x1
    • Chatacabra Shell x2
  5. You will want to swap to this weapon immediately when you get your first Rompopolo hunt. It sports one of the highest base damage in the entire Low Rank, and you can use this weapon all the way up into HR if you want.
  6. Barina Perche II - Click for Materials
    • Nerscylla Claw x1
    • Lala Barina Floret x2
    • Lala Barina Stinger x1
  7. This is a solid alternative to the Chata Glaive II, if you prefer the safety of getting regular Paralysis procs and a slightly stronger Kinsect.
  8. Chthonian Vajra I - Click for Materials
    • Guardian Ebony Scale x3
    • Guardian Ebony Claw x2
    • Guardian Ebony Fang x1
  9. Once you get closer to the end of the LR story, you might want to switch over to the Guardian Ebony Odogaron Glaive, Chthonian Vajra I. While it's base damage is lower than that of the Chata Glaive or some other Rank 4 alternatives, it has good Sharpness and provides fairly high Dragon element damage for Low Rank weapons. Some of the last few bosses of the LR story are weak to Dragon damage, making this a fine choice to clear out the last few hunts before moving into Hígh Rank!

Keep in mind: If you are having a hard time with monsters and have extra parts for a temporary upgrade, do not hesitate to craft it, as you can always farm more parts later. And if you run into a monster that is weak to a specific element, swapping to an Insect Glaive with that element can help as well.

Key Skills for Insect Glaive

The Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter Wilds can be built in multiple different ways, especially depending on whether you want to focus on Ground or Aerial combat. If you want to play from the air a lot, getting the Master Mounter Group Skill bonus is pretty much required, which will limit your skill options due to only a handful of armor-sets providing this skill. You will also want to pick up Jump Master to not get knocked back as much while mid-air.

If you prefer staying on the ground for most of your combat experience, your choice of set matters a lot less, giving you more freedom to pick up skills that boost your raw damage output. Burst is a particularly strong choice, as the Insect Glaive hits many times with each part of your combo, making it quite easy to stack up and maintain.

3.

Insect Glaive HR 1-4 Armor Set

Below, we list an early set that provides the Scaling Prowess Group Skill, which grants the Master Mounter passive, while also extending the range of your dodge-roll, for a much smoother and safer fighting experience.

Gear Decorations
Head Balahara Helm N/A
Chest Balahara Mail N/A
Gloves Balahara Braces N/A
Waist Balahara Coil N/A
Legs Balahara Greaves N/A
Talisman Defense Charm I N/A

Initially you can simply craft the entire set if you want to, or only grab the Gloves, Boots and Belt pieces to get Evade Extender 3, while using other pieces for the Helmet and Chest. The skills granted by Low Rank armor in the first couple of hours of the game do not provide any meaningful bonuses, so feel free to play the Set that looks best to you. After all, a Hunter has to take down their prey in style!

3.1.

HR 1-5 Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses

  • Scaling Prowess - Set Bonus
  • Evade Extender - Level 3
  • Hunger Resistance - Level 1
  • Defense Boost - Level 1 (from Talisman)
  • Power Prolonger - Level 2 (from Weapon)

You can later switch into the //www.icy-veins.com/monster-hunter-wilds/hirabami-armor-set for slightly higher defenses and Evade Window instead of Evade Extender, until you reach the last stages of the Low Rank journey.

4.

Insect Glaive HR 5-7+ Armor Set

Once you progress deeper into the story and unlock more parts, you can swap out some of those early comfort pieces for more offensive skills. The one we are looking for here is the Burst skill from the Guardian Ebony Odogaron set - lucky for us, we already want to farm this monster for our weapon too!.

Gear Decorations
Head G. Ebony Helm N/A
Chest G. Ebony Mail N/A
Gloves G. Ebony Braces N/A
Waist G. Seikret Coil N/A
Legs G.Ebony Greaves N/A
Talisman Chainblade Charm I N/A

This late set provides Ebony Odogaron's Power from using the Guardian Ebony Odogaron set, and Jump Master granted to us by the single Guardian Seikret piece. Burst is one of the strongest damage boosting skills in the game, especially with the set bonus further boosting its efficacy, and Jump Master is a very nice Quality of Life skill when you want to mount monsters. The single point in Flayer from your Talisman will slightly improve your ability to cause wounds, which we need to quickly get back our Kinsect Extracts with a Focus Strike.

Early on, you will not have many decoration options. However, if you get the chance, use any that help make combat more comfortable, such as Defense or Brace (if you are lucky enough to get these).

4.1.

HR 5-7+ Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses

  • 2-Set Bonus: Ebony Odogaron's Power (Improves the Burst skill.)
  • Jump Master - Level 1
  • Burst - Level 2
  • Bleeding Resistance - Level 2
  • Flayer - Level 1 (from Talisman)
  • Focus - Level 2 (from Weapon)
5.

Kinsect Choice for Low Rank

Unlike other weapons, you get a secondary choice of "weapon" by picking a specific Kinsect. These come in all different shapes and sizes, with a few major distinctions between them. Gemma initially lets you buy two different ones, one for Blunt, and one for Severing. Severing Kinsects have a slightly easier time cutting off body parts, while Blunt Kinsects have a slightly easier time stunning and knocking down enemies.

Since your Kinsect always fights alongside you while in Focus Mode, you can pick whichever you prefer. Each of the two base Kinsects can later be upgraded into three different options, which then have two additional options in High Rank. You will only be able to upgrade them once during Low Rank.

We recommend that you buy each of the base Kinsect six times, to slowly but steadily get every single option out there. For most of your Low Rank journey, you will be playing the Base Kinsect, and later upgrade into either the Alucanid Kinsect for Severing, or the Foebeetle for Blunt.

They provide the Poison Powder effect, and have the highest base damage out of the options as well. To boot, they provide the Kinsect Boost: Harvest Extract skill, which lets you grab 3 Extracts instead of 2 when charging your Kinsect. They also deal slightly more damage when attacking Weak Points via Attack Boost: Weak Point Focus, making them the best options for damage during Low Rank.

Alternative you can grab the Gullshad and Windchopper Kinsects for higher speed, to have an easier time extracting buffs from specific spots of enemies. Since our Kinsect always attacks alongside us and constantly extracts buffs during Focus Mode, this is not as necessary as it was in previous generations of the Monster Hunter franchise.

And that's it for our Low Rank Insect Glaive Guide. Happy Hunting!!
May your Glaive and Kinsect strike in unison!
