Light Bowgun HR 9-35 Armor Set
This next set lasts from as soon as you hit High Rank all the way until around Hunter Rank 35 and requires you to defeat Guardian Ebony and Blangonga a few times to gain all the materials.
At this point in the game, decorations are not worth specifically farming so simply use what you have to either improve your current skills, add new ones or increase your defensiveness if you feel you are struggling with some of the earlier High Rank fights. That being said, if you are struggling that should go away over time, progressing through this part of High Rank unlocks passive resource farms allowing you to more regularly use consumables without having to actively farm them.
Gear | Decorations | |
---|---|---|
Weapon | Rey Szelatya II | N/A |
Head | G. Ebony Helm β | N/A |
Chest | Blango Mail β | N/A |
Gloves | G. Ebony Braces β | N/A |
Waist | Blango Coil β | N/A |
Legs | Blango Greaves α | N/A |
Talisman | Surge Charm I | N/A |
This early high rank set will use the Rey Szelatya II as weapon, as it is a great entry weapon with powerful Pierce Ammo level 3! It also comes with Opening Shot and Slugger, which increases your reload speed and stun capacity. The level 3 pierce ammo will be boosted by Agitator, burst, and maximum might.
This build allows you to progress through the early High Rank missions without having too many troubles. We maintain three points into Burst, which is enough to get additional power, and max out Agitator, which will be a massive damage upgrade. Light Bowguns don't use that much stamina, so you should be able to keep Maximum Might from the charm active almost all the time. You can also max out Maximum Might with decorations, or add Stamina surge decorations if you happen to find some.
HR 9-35 Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses
- Agitator - Level 5
- Burst - Level 3

Light Bowgun HR 35-41+ Armor Set
After rank 35 and 40, you will be able to hunt both Gore Magala and Arkveld. These 2 monsters are the main guys at endgame currently until future title updates and their gear is generally some of the best available.
While this set is still a progression set, this set allows you to more than comfortably farm decorations and any materials you may want while you work towards a true endgame set or even just to farm so you can play with builds and options yourself.

At this point you are able to fully craft any weapon on the weapon tree. As soon as you are able to craft the Szelatya Clairgun you will want to switch to it. This weapon will grant you high Level 3 Pierce Ammo which will be one of the best Ammo you can have on Light Bowgun. it also comes with Opening shot level 2 which we will max out with an Opener decoration. Additionally, you want to maximize the crit boost on your weapon, so add two Critical Jewels on top of it.
Your goal with this set is to maximize your Piercing attacks. With the fast reloading of the weapon, you can quickly stack up damage.
You will want to use the Pierce Ammo magazine and Rapid Fire Mod.
The Gore set's skill will allow you to get inflicted by Frenzy even when not fighting frenzied monsters, and since we have 4-piece Gore, being affected by frenzy will give you a massive attack boost. Antivirus will make it easier to cure from Frenzy, which will proc another attack power increase and Coalescence who will activate it's elemental damage bonus. Constitution and Maximum might work well with Light Bowgun as you technically don't use that much stamina, which allows you to keep the bonuses from those up almost all the time.
Additionally, this build also boosts your defense and evade capacity enough to let your shoot through all the upcoming monsters.
If you have it, you can use the Corrupted Mantle as well, which raises further your affinity and attack under certain conditions.
Talisman and Key Decoration Options
You want to use two Critical Jewel Level on the weapon. Sane are also important in order to get Antivirus. The rest of the slots you can either max out more of your damage or go for more defensive options. Both work.
You need to use the Challenger Charm II if you want to reach Agitator Level 5.

Endgame
Listed below you will find our currently recommended endgame build options for the Light Bowgun including their best weapons and best decorations to use on these builds.
Endgame Artian Light Bowgun
The Artian Light Bowgun is currently one of the best Light Bowguns in Monster Hunter Wilds, especially if you want to go for an Elemental damage build. This weapon comes with high raw damage as well as 3x Level 3 Slots with the ability to include an elemental status type. Picking 3 lots of the same elemental type will grant you Element Infusion increasing the element stat by 30. On the other hand using 2 of the same element results in the weapon to be created with that elemental type.
What is the Best Artian Light Bowgun?
Currently the best Artian Weapon for Light Bowgun is the Animilater with there being a few good variations depending on Production and Reinforcement Bonuses. The Production bonus determines the element type as well as any additional stats such as Attack and Affinity. The Reinforcement Bonus is randomised when upgrading the Artian Weapon using reinforcement materials. You can quit to the title screen without saving in order to reroll the reinforcement bonus if you aren't satisfied with your outcome.
When picking Elemental Type you can pick any you want, depending on the element you need, just make sure to pick 3 of the same kind because you will need at least one Element Infusion production bonus.
When looking at the Production Bonus for the Animilater the first production bonus we want to go for is Element infusions and Attack Infusion.
For optimal Reinforcement Bonuses, prioritise Attack and Capacity Boost in order to increase damage output, and ammo capacity which is important as the weapon comes with only two shots, so the Capacity Boost is extremely needed.
You will want to go for the Normal Ammo Powder and Normal Ammo Magazine Mods.

Head | Gore Helm β | Destroyer Jewel II |
Chest | Gore Mail β | Tenderizer Jewel III Mighty Jewel II |
Gloves | Gore Vambraces β | Mighty Jewel II Physique Jewel I |
Waist | Gore Coil β | Protection Jewel I |
Legs | Dahaad Shardgreaves β | Mighty II |
Talisman | Chain Charm II | N/A |
The Artian weapon Animilater is the BiS Light Bowgun for an Elemental Focused build such as this one. The 3 Level 3 Decorations on the weapon allows you to max out Critical Element for more elemental damage (which is what we want for this build), as well as Ballistics, Opening Shot, and Tetrad Shot. All three of those are a great combination as it will decrease your reload time and increase your range and damage!
As for the rest of this set, the gear will focus on maxing out further your elemental damage through the Gore set's abilities inflicting you with Frenzy, and the Coalescence and Antivirus duo which will be maxed out through your decorations on the gear as well. Additionally, Burst will give you a more constant damage bonus than Agitator, but we keep two point in Agitator still. Finally, with this build you also have a large evade window and good stamina recharge.
You will need the Chain Charm level 2 in order to get Burst. For the Decorations on the gear you will need absolutely 3 Sane Jewel for Antivirus, and two Phoenix Jewel for Coalescence. The rest is rather flexible, and you can choose to either max out Burst or Agitator, or go for more defensive options. it is good to know that Agitator will give you a better boots, but Burst is activated more often.
