Light Bowgun HR 1-7 Weapon Crafts

The first thing every hunter knows is keeping their weapon up to date for each hunt is the best path to success. You don't want to get caught in a dangerous hunt with an old one, so here we will cover a comfortable build path that will get you through low rank without needing to farm everything that shows up.

1.1.

Low Rank Light Bowgun Weapon Build Path

Hope Rifle III ➜ Hunter Rifle II ➜ Nu Chobotnice I ➜ Chthonian Gunfire I
With these 4 steps, you will comfortably keep up with the curve of monsters that come up through the main story, and cover some weaknesses for some of the more dangerous fights that show up.

Hope Rifle III - Click for Materials
    • Dragonite Ore x 3
    • Machalite Ore x 2
  1. The Smithy should give you materials to upgrade this a couple of times. The Hope Cannon III also gets access to Ballistics and Critical Eye which allows you to shoot from further away, and increases your affinity. It is a Bowgun you can keep for a while at the start since it also has access to a good variety of different Ammo.
  2. Hunter Rifle II - Click for Materials
    • Sturdy Bone x 2
    • Monster Fluid x 1
  3. Once you are able to craft the Hunter's Rifle II, switch to it. This grants you Attack Boost and Opening Shot, allowing you to have increased attack power, and increases your reload speed and bullet power when fully loaded.
  4. Nu Chobotnice I - Click for Materials
    • Nu Udra Hide x 3
    • Nu Udra Spike x 2
    • Nu Udra Oilmucus x 1
  5. This weapon is a very good choice once you get access to it, as it grants you Level 3 Spread Ammo, and a Level 2 opening shot, which greatly increases your damage at this point.
  6. Chthonian Gunfire I - Click for Materials
    • Guardian Ebony Scale x 3
    • Guardian Ebony Claw x 2
    • Guardian Ebony Fang x 1
  7. Right as you come toward the end of the main story, this is an excellent craft for the final fight and to bridge you into High Rank comfortably. This Bowgun may give up your level 3 Spread Ammo, but you will have access to powerful Pierce Ammo and useful Dragon Ammo.

Remember though, if you are struggling to deal with monsters and you have parts lying around for a weapon that fits better your own playstyle, don't hesitate to craft it. You can always go back and farm those parts again later if you need them for something else!

Key Skills for Light Bowgun

The Light Bowgun in Monster Hunter Wilds is a weapon type that can benefit from running certain skills. What you will want to keep an eye out for is a set that focus on more damage and some defense.

The Light Bowgun doesn't have the Guarding possibilities like its Heavier counterpart, which means you are more at risks, especially at the start when you don't necessarily know the Monster's patterns. Later on, you can switch some parts out for more Burst damage skills.

3.

Light Bowgun HR 1-5 Armor Set

Below is the earliest set that can be put together with some good defense and damage. If you actively upgrade it, it should cover all your needs all the way through low rank.

Gear Decorations
Head Ingot Helm N/A
Chest Hope Mail N/A
Gloves Balahara Vambraces N/A
Waist Balahara Coil N/A
Legs Balahara Greaves N/A
Talisman Blessing Charm I N/A

The Head and Chest gives you access to Divine Blessing Level 2 which gives you some chance of reducing the damage you take. The Gloves, Waist, and Legs grant you Evade Extender, allowing you to cover more distance when evading.

The Blessing Charm is a good starting Talisman that you can craft rather early on.

When it comes to decorations, it is pretty limited how many you have access to early on, so I would recommend putting anything in that sounds like it would make combat more comfortable, such as Bandolier or Attack if you are lucky enough to get some.

3.1.

HR 1-5 Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses

  • Divine Blessing - Level 2
  • Evade Extender - Level 3
  • Master Mounter - 3-piece
4.

Light Bowgun HR 5-7+ Armor Set

Once you are deeper into the story and more parts are unlocked, you can move some of these early game comfort options around to go for a more offensive focused set.

Gear Decorations
Head G Ebony Helm N/A
Chest G Ebony Mail N/A
Gloves G Ebony Braces N/A
Waist G Ebony Coil N/A
Legs G Doshaguma Greaves N/A
Talisman Chain Charm I N/A

Looking toward High Rank, we will remove the comfort pieces in order to replace them with more offensive sets. The goal will be to focus on Burst Damage and boosting even further that burst damage. The use of 4-piece Guardian Ebony Set grants you the Burst Boost II skill, which extends the duration of the original Burst, and grants you +10 attack while it is active, giving you additional power. This set will give you enough power and possibilities to make it through the remaining Low Rank Monsters.

The last slot is a bit flexible. The Ajarakan Chest is a good option because it gives you Partbreaker which can further increase your damage and help you break parts. If you want to keep some additional defense you can also go for the Guardian Doshaguma chest which will give you Heroic and iron Skin.

When it comes to decorations, it is pretty limited how many you have access to early on, so I would recommend putting anything in that sounds like it would make combat more comfortable, such as Bandolier or Chain if you are lucky enough to get some.

4.1.

HR 5-7+ Armor Set Skills and Set Bonuses

  • Burst - Level 3
  • Bleeding Resistance - Level 2
  • Partbreaker - Level 1
  • Doshaguma's Might - 2-piece
  • Ebony Odogaron's Power - 4-piece
