Nerscylla Combat Guide

Nerscylla is a formidable yet manageable opponent once you become familiar with her attack patterns and weaknesses. To maximize your damage output, it is highly recommended to bring a Fire elemental weapon, as Fire is her primary weakness. She is highly vulnerable to Paralysis, making it an effective status ailment to exploit. Additionally, Poison, Stun, and Blast can also be useful, though to a lesser extent. Sleep is not effective against her and should be avoided. Flash Pods, Shock Traps, and Pitfall Traps all work well against her, while Sonic Bombs are completely ineffective and should not be used.

At first glance, Nerscylla may seem intimidating, but in reality, she is relatively easy to understand once you recognize her movement patterns. However, she does possess some tricky attacks, and if you are not careful, she can combo you into defeat. One of her most dangerous attacks comes from her stinger — if she manages to land a hit with it, you will not only take damage but also fall asleep, leaving you completely vulnerable to additional attacks. Her stinger is also a weak spot, so targeting it is a good strategy, but always try to position yourself behind her rather than in front to avoid being stung and incapacitated.

She can also fire three web shots from her stinger, and if they connect, they will immobilize you in a sticky web, making it difficult to escape. It is highly recommended to bring plenty of Cleansers, a support item in Monster Hunter Wilds that helps remove webbing and frost effects. She may also fire these webs while jumping backward, so always be mindful of her movements.

On occasion, Nerscylla will rear up on all of her legs and slam down with considerable force. This attack can deal significant damage, so your best defensive options are to counter it with a Long Sword, offset it with an appropriate weapon, guard with a shielded weapon, or simply dodge out of harm’s way. She also has a frontal grab attack, where she attempts to seize the hunter with both of her claws, as well as a single swipe attack, which she executes with just one of her claws.

One key detail to keep in mind is that Nerscylla’s claws are extremely durable, meaning that your weapon will bounce off of them until they are eventually broken. If you target her claws directly, be prepared for your attacks to deflect unless you have a high sharpness weapon.

Another unique ability in her arsenal is her swinging web attack—she will attach a web to a nearby structure, swing across the area, and attempt to land on you. This move is easy to anticipate if you pay attention to where she is aiming before launching herself. Additionally, Nerscylla has a forward lunge, where she shoots silk ahead of her and propels herself forward. Avoid standing in her path when she performs this attack, as it can be difficult to counter.

Her most powerful attack occurs when she retracts her massive poisonous jaws and attempts to pierce the hunter. If you see her preparing this attack, immediately back away. However, do not retreat too far, as she will briefly pause after executing the move, exposing a Focus Strike weak point that will glow red. If you successfully land a Focus Strike on her jaws, you will deal a massive amount of damage and flip her over, creating an excellent opening for follow-up attacks.

When mounting Nerscylla, you can create two wounds—one on her middle section and another on her head. Always pop the middle wound while mounted, as it is harder to reach when dismounted, and then pop the head wound afterward to maximize damage output.

Enraged State

Just like most enraged states, she is just going to be more aggressive and attack faster. So just be extra cautious and more reactive than normal. She is a monster that you first meet in low-rank and most of these monsters don't really have that much of a threatening enrage.

Conclusion

Nerscylla is a fun and engaging monster to fight, and she can be a challenge for newer players who are still learning the series. Her two most dangerous moves—her retractable jaws and sleeping stinger—are the biggest threats to look out for, as both can easily result in getting carted. As long as you maintain proper positioning and stay aware of her web attacks, you should be able to take her down with minimal trouble.

If you continue having difficulties, consider using traps to control the fight and environmental hazards to gain an advantage. However, in all honesty, you shouldn’t need to rely on them—as long as you stay cautious and capitalize on her openings, Nerscylla will be a defeated arachnid in no time.
