One of the biggest improvements in Monster Hunter Wilds is its dynamic weather system, which goes beyond just visual changes. This new feature directly impacts hunts, affecting monster behavior, player mobility, and even the available resources. Understanding how the weather system works, where to check the conditions, and how to adapt to these changing scenarios can mean the difference between a successful hunt and a frustrating defeat.
Understanding the Weather System in Monster Hunter Wilds
The weather system in Monster Hunter Wilds is divided into three categories:
- Fallow
- Plenty
- Inclemency
Fallow is right before the storm. Resources will be rare to find, there is no food, so monsters fight each other more often. You will notice it is Fallow when the environment generally looks dull, or it is heavily raining or stormy.
Plenty is the renewal right after the storm. Life comes back, and more animals and resources can be found. The environment is beautiful, clear, and sunny.
Inclemency is when massive storms, blizzards, and heat waves happen. It happens after Fallow and right before Plenty. Oftentimes, it is the only moment when Apex Monsters will be available to hunt!
The weather can also directly affect your Hunter: if you are stuck in a massive blizzard without any item helping with Cold management, you will be in trouble.
How to Check the Current Weather
There are multiple ways you can check what the current weather is in your game:
- The environment: If it’s rainy and you can not really see the beautiful jungle or the amazing frosty lands, it means you are probably in Fallow. If the storm makes it almost impossible for you to see far away, you are usually during the Inclemency. When the surrounding area is beautiful, the sun shines, and there is a ton of endemic life around you, you should be during Plenty.
- Check on your Map: You can open your map and then select the details on the environment, which will open a small window on the side, and at the top, it will tell you the time of the day and the current weather. You can also see on the same window the currently available monsters, resources, and endemic life.

- Check next to your Mini-Map: It is not always possible to check on the full map, but don’t worry, it is also indicated next to your Mini-Map. A swirly purple icon will indicate Fallow, a green circle will indicate Plenty, and the red magatama-like (the one in the following picture) indicates the Inclemency.

How to Change the Weather
Once you hit High Rank, you will have the possibility to change the weather. This is particularly useful if you want to hunt a specific monster or gather a specific resource!
In order to switch the weather, you will have to follow a few steps:
- Head to your Tent (Base Camp or Pop-up Camp, both work)
- Navigate to the BBQ menu, where you usually Grill a Meal. Under it, you will find the “Rest” option
- When you open the Rest menu, you will have access to the Environment and Time
- Select the Time of the day or night and the weather you want, and confirm
- Be careful, as you need to pay 300 Guild Points for this!
It is also important to note that you cannot change the weather in the middle of a quest and during Low Rank. This option only becomes available once you reach High Rank!
