If you thought Uth Duna was big, wait until you see Lagiacrus.
The returning “fan-favorite” Leviathan has been teased for a future Monster Hunter Wilds update coming in Summer 2025, and players are already speculating about just how massive it seems from the short clips we have seen so far. According to a popular Reddit thread (see below), Lagiacrus’s gold crown size in previous games clocks in at 33.1 meters; nearly as large as Uth Duna, and possibly even more intimidating in terms of presence.
What makes it feel even bigger? As some players pointed out, Uth Duna packs its mass into a shorter frame, while Lagiacrus has a more balanced, elongated body shape. That creates a different visual impression, especially when you picture it coiling around terrain or slamming into a turf war.
Lagiacrus vs. Uth Duna: Who Wins?
There is already a lot of speculation about a potential turf war between the two. Lagiacrus brings electric attacks and aquatic dominance, while Uth Duna’s water veil and brute strength might give it some resistance. One theory even suggests that Uth Duna’s aggressive behavior during rainstorms could be linked to Lagiacrus entering its territory as water levels rise.
Why Was Lagiacrus Missing Until Now?
Long-time fans may remember that Lagiacrus was originally planned for Monster Hunter World but was scrapped due to animation and skeleton issues in complex terrain. Now, with Wilds making Leviathans a big focus, it looks like Capcom has finally figured out how to make the huge sea king work.
Underwater Combat? Not Likely, But Maybe…

There is also speculation about how the fight might play out. As previously already mentioned in our first article about Lagiacrus coming to Wilds: Lots of hunters hope for semi-underwater encounters similar to Uth Duna’s phases; others are dreaming of a full underwater combat return. No matter if this happens or not, most agree that Lagiacrus looks like it will be one of the biggest and most cinematic fights in the game.
Until then, all we can do is wait and rewatch the teaser footage of Lagiacrus clawing or dragging a Dalthydon around like it was a toy.
