Once you hit High Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds, you have to get better gear. Only then you can start to farm for your best in slot weapons and armor. Figuring out which skill is the most useful, can sometimes be complicated. Especially with the wide variety of abilities you can use for many weapons! One thing that is sometimes overlooked, is the Earplug skill. However, you will see that it is actually more helpful than you might think!
Earplugs 2 Covers Most Monster Roars in MH Wilds
Hunters searching for an efficient way to counter monster roars in Monster Hunter Wilds will be glad to hear that Earplugs 2 is actually surprisingly effective. Recent testings that players shared on Reddit show that Earplugs 2 is enough to negate the roars of nearly all apex and high-end monsters, making it a highly efficient skill choice.

Testing Results: Which Monsters Require More?
Reddit user RedTygershark ran a test with Earplugs 2 and confirmed its utility against most of the roster, with only a few exceptions:
- Jin Dahaad and Gravios require a higher level of Earplugs to fully nullify their roars.
- Gore Magala in its enraged state needs Earplugs 3 to counter its more powerful roar.
- Zoh Shia also needs more than Earplugs 2, but since it is not currently available for hunting, this is less relevant for now.
Lower-tier monsters were not extensively tested. However, they typically have weaker roars that may not require Earplugs at all, or work with only the first Level.
Why This Matters for Your Build
With Earplugs 2 providing near-total protection against monster roars. You can optimize your builds by saving skill points for other important abilities. Instead of fully investing in the Earplugs skill, you can enjoy interruption-free combat while improving your damage potential.
