Playing online in Monster Hunter Wilds can come with wonderful and fun cooperative experiences. However, some troublemakers can make it really hard for people to progress when first starting High Rank, and simply trying to get some help from others. So here is a small tutorial on how to properly behave during multiplayer hunts, to make sure all Hunters have the best experience!
Player doomcomplex on Reddit has shared his recent bad experience with a group of hunters targeting his Yian Kut Ku capture quest, and completely ruining it:
Online Etiquette: What Not to Do
Here are a few tips regarding Hunts with other players, so you and your teammates can have fun together, and no one is left frustrated at the end of the hunt:
- Avoid Unsolicited Captures: Capturing monsters without team consent can ruin quest objectives. Always communicate with your team before deciding to capture or slay a monster. It takes only a few seconds to type in chat and ask if capture is ok, or if the quest requires to specifically slay a Monster (or the other way around).
- Be Mindful of Playstyles: Respect the different approaches and strategies of other hunters. It is ok to give advice, but never to insult other players.
- Communication is Key: Use in-game communication tools to coordinate strategies, share information, and support teammates. Clear communication improves team performance and cooperation.
- Do not Hit and Run: If you look for Crowns or anything in particular that does not spawn each hunt, do not just enter an SOS flare hunt, and leave one second after, just because the monster was not a crown. Stay and see it through. SOS flare’s main purpose is to help out the Hunter.
- Do not ruin a Hunt on purpose: Similar to the Reddit post shared previously, do not join specific hunts just to ruin them completely.
If you encounter any players that join your quests and try to ruin them, do not hesitate to remove them from the Quest Members List. You can do this by going into your Member List, and selecting the player – “Remove from Quest Members”. We recommend you also block any player who behaves badly on purpose.
Playing with NPCs Only: How to Adjust Your Settings
If you prefer to hunt with non-player characters (NPCs) instead of real players, Monster Hunter Wilds provides options to fit your multiplayer experience:
- Set Up Support Hunters: The game allows you to include Support Hunters, AI-controlled companions, in your quests. To do this:
- Before starting a quest, access the settings menu at Alma.
- Set the Multiplayer Settings to “Only Support Hunters”.
- Set the “Max Members” option to 2 or more. Do not put it at 1, as this will prevent any NPC from joining.
- If you want your Palico to stay in your party, set it to only 2. This way you will have one support hunter and both Palico staying. The Palico are often more useful than 2 additional support Hunters.
- Configure SOS Settings for the NPCs to join automatically: if you want you can set the setting to “Auto SOS Flare”, this means an SOS flare is sent automatically as soon as the Quest begins, and the support hunters will directly join. This is useful if you know you want someone to join, but do not bother with sending out the Flares yourself.
By adjusting these settings, you can enjoy a solo hunting experience with the support of AI companions, providing flexibility and control over your quests. Just be aware that Rosso may take your job as Monster Mounter, as he tends to spend a lot of time ON the monsters, instead of behind it. And as mentioned before, setting it to 2 members max allows your Palico to stay in the party, which is sometimes more useful.
