What are Secondary Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Secondary weapons are a new addition to Monster Hunter Wilds providing players with an alternate weapon they can switch to. This allows greater combat potential and also flexibility in the Forbidden Lands. You may want to bring a similar weapon to what you currently have, or a vastly different weapon depending on what monsters you are hunting.

Below you will find some of the best use-cases and situations for the best secondary weapons you can use while hunting.

Hunting Horn is Great for Support!

The Hunting Horn is a great support weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Hunting Horn is an amazing support weapon and always a great Secondary Weapon option while out on hunts in the wilds. This weapon provides melody buffs for the party also making it a versatile option for Co-Op!

The Hunting Horn can increase stats such as attack, elemental resistances and defense through its melodies. Coupled with the fact that this can be used while on a Seikret means you can swap to your HH > provide buffs > swap to your main.

2.2.

Use Both a Close-Up and a Ranged Weapon

If you are a player that uses a close-ranged weapon such as the Dual Blades then a great secondary weapon to use would be a ranged weapon! This covers you in situations where you need to attack from distance. A ranged weapon can also be handy in Co-Op where the monster may dash off to fight other players.

The Bow is an amazing weapon for this! The Bow has high movement speed allowing you to dodge attacks. Additionally the Light Bowgun is another really powerful option for a ranged weapon.

The Gunlance provides a bit of close combat and ranged weaponry in Monster Hunter Wilds

At the same time, players already using a ranged weapon may want to consider a weapon that is more up-close and personal for the more aggressive monsters. The Hammer is a great weapon for bringing additional stunning power for the team while Great Sword is easy to pick up.

2.3.

Secondary Weapons Can Simply be Different Elements

If you are a die-hard main of a specific weapon, you do not need to use more than one weapon. You can use 2 weapons of the exact same type of weapon but simply with different elements. For example you could use a Long Sword that is Fire and a second that is Water to provide a wider range of coverage. This also applies to weapons that provide a specific status infliction such as Poison weapons.

That being said, you can even do this across multiple weapons. You may want a Switch Axe with Dragon and a Great Sword with Ice.
