In the expanse of the Forbidden Lands of Monster hunter Wilds, every weapon is more than just an instrument of battle. It is a key to unlocking your inner hunter and embarking out to defeat even the strongest of foes.

Whether you like the colossal might of the Great Sword, the mobility of the Bow or the speed of the Dual Blades, there's a weapon suitable for every hunter. Each with their own unique playstyle and strategies.

With the release of Monster Hunter Wilds, hunters can even bring out a secondary weapon. This allows them to change their combat style as the fight progresses to suit the needs of the party or the monster.

Not all weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds are as beginner friendly as other weapons. Listed below are some general recommendations beginners may want to try out first.

  • Sword and Shield: – Great mix of offense and defense, with fast attacks and quick item use.
  • Long Sword: – Balanced damage and mobility, with smooth combo attacks.
  • Great Sword: – Slow but hits hard and teaches you how to time your attacks properly.

Bow

The Bow is a mid-ranged weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds that utilises a range of arrow-based attacks. The bow has high levels of mobility and uses a selection of coatings to deal different effects to monsters.

Charge Blade

Charge Blade in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Charge Blade is a weapon that can switch between 2 different modes. One mode is called the Sword Mode which has increased manoeuvrability while the Axe Mode is instead slower but packs a punch. Use the Sword Mode to charge phials to then be used to deal even more damage in the Axe Mode!

Dual Blades

Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Wilds

Dual Blades give you exactly what you expect: 2 blades! This weapon has rapid attacks while you build up to your demon and archdemon modes to further boost your damage. The Dual Blades even allow you to perform spinning attacks across a monsters back.

The Great Sword is a weighty weapon with slow attacks that deal massive damage. The Great Sword is amazing at offset attacks, making it easy to parry a monsters attacks while also being able to heavily defend against massive attacks through blocking with your giant sword.

Gunlance

Gunlance in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Gunlance literally has a giant gun with a huge bayonet on the end acting as a lance. Easily block attacks from monsters using your shield or make small sidesteps to adjust your position while firing explosive shells against the enemy.

The Hammer is an amazing weapon for stunning monsters. Simply hit them on the head several times and the monster is easily stunned. This weapon boasts decent mobility and great offense while you charge attacks to make them even more powerful.

Heavy Bowgun

The Heavy Bowgun is a long-range weapon that fires ammo at monsters from a distance. The Heavy Bowgun has both an Auto-Guard and manual guard function. This weapon uses an ignition mode to fire special ammo which regenerates over time as you attack the monster more.

The Hunting Horn is the ultimate support weapon! This weapon performs a range of melodies which give buffs to yourself and the party. The Hunting Horn can also place Echo Bubbles to grant effects in an AoE on the ground.

The Light Bowgun is a mid-ranged weapon that can fire a selection of ammo types at monsters. The Light Bowgun is much more mobile than the Heavy Bowgun and can also generate energy over time to perform a rapid fire attack.
