Engineering Trade Skill Guide for New World Aeternum
Welcome to the ultimate Engineering guide for New World: Aeternum, where you'll master the craft of creating powerful ranged weapons, tools, and other essential gear to support combat and gathering activities. In this guide, we'll cover the most efficient ways to level your Engineer skill, how to make gold with this trade skill, and everything else you need to know about Engineering.
Engineering Overview in New World: Aeternum
Engineering in New World: Aeternum is a very rewarding and useful skill that allows players to craft powerful ranged weapons, tools, and more. Engineering is primarily focused on creating Dexterity-scaling weapons, along with crafting tools, but can also craft other extremely useful items such as Powerful Proficiency Boosts.
Engineering is performed at a Workshop or Forge in any settlement. Workshops and Forges have a tier level that varies from town-to-town, and a higher tiered level workshop or forge will enable you to craft higher tier items.
Engineering Leveling Guide in New World: Aeternum (Levels 1 to 250)
Engineering is a fairly flexible crafting skill to level depending on what materials you prefer farming, or what is most cost-effective on your server. There are several ways to progress through Engineering with ease, and maybe even make some gold in the process. The "best" choice will differ from server-to-server and person-to-person.
Below is a list of recommended items to craft at certain level ranges in order to be most cost-effective with your Engineering leveling strategy. To learn more about the specific ingredients for each craft, click on the item and you'll be able to see all additional details.
Please note: Some of these items will not be easy to sell. In some cases, it makes the most sense to craft these in bulk, then mass salvage them in order to regain some resources. Keep this in mind as you utilize the strategies below.
- Levels 0-50 — As you start out your Engineering leveling adventure, you will want to produce Gunpowder, which only requires Flint, Aged Wood, and Saltpeter. You will need to craft approximately 108 gunpowder to reach level 50.
- Levels 50-60 — Next up, you will want to quickly craft only 13 Lacquered Wood Bows or lacquered Wood Spears, depending on the cost of Coarse Leather vs Iron Ingots on your server.
- Levels 60-110 — We recommend focusing on pumping out Aged Wood Fishing Poles at this point to hit level 110. You will need to mass-produce these at this point, and when we say mass-produce, we mean it. You will need to craft approximately 242 of these to reach level 110.
- Levels 110-150 — We hate to say this, but you'll have to keep the fishing pole grind going. You will need to craft approximately 906 more Aged Fishing Poles to reach level 150.
- Levels 150-160 — For the next 10 levels, you'll want to start pumping out a new weapon - the Orichalcum Blunderbuss. You will need to craft 35 of these to reach level 160.
- Levels 160-205 — This next portion of leveling is a grind - but it's worth it. You will want to start crafting some expedition-specific named weapons (either the Garden Keeper Blunderbuss of the Soldier or the Complex Conqueror's Blunderbuss of the Soldier). Depending on which you choose, you will need either Sticky Vines (farmed from the Genesis Expedition, or Ancient Talismans (farmed from the Ennead Expedition. You will need to craft 211 of these to reach level 205.
- Levels 205-250 — Here comes the last stretch for leveling Engineering! At this point, you will want to start pumping out Mythril tools (such as Mythril Hatchets, Mythril Sickles, and Mythril Skinning Knife). It is recommended to do a mix of these, and post the ones crafted with decent perks to the Trading Post to make some profit. You will need to craft a combination of 273 Mythril tools to reach level 250.
- Levels 250+ — You made it! You're now max level in the Engineering trade skill. The fun doesn't stop here though - you can continue crafting ranged weapons and certain tools to gain "Apptitude Levels", which grants you with unique rewards, such as the Package of Specialized Engineering Materials. At this point, you can start focusing on crafting items that are most sought-after to generate more gold. More info on some of these items can be found below.
How to Make Gold with Engineering
Depending on the server you're on, there are certain items that hold a large value. Below is a list of items that we recommend you consider implementing within your leveling strategy in order to potentially "break-even" as you craft, as they tend to be easily sold to other players within the Trading Post. Again - this is dependent on server. The list below showcases some of the most sought-after items that you can craft utilizing your Engineering trade skill.
- Mythril Tools — When you're max level in the Engineering trade skill, you'll be able to craft max gear score tools, which are the most sought-after tools for every player. If you're lucky when crafting and hit a good set of perks on certain tools, you will have a HUGE chance of making profit by selling it to other players in either the "Trade" in-game chat, or the Trading Post.
- Proficiency Potions — At level 170 Engineering, you will be able to start crafting Powerful Proficiency Boost potions, which increases the amount of resources gathered with a tool by 15% for 30 minutes, making it VEYR valuable for players looking to mass-gather resources. You won't have a hard time selling these on the Trading Post.
- Weapon Matrix — At level 250 Engineering, you will be able to craft a Weapon Matrix. This matrix is used when altering the final perk for named weapons, or even artifact weapons, making it an extremely large benefit for players trying to max-out their builds. These crafted items will be bound to you once crafted, but are essential to making sure you have your build ready-to-go.
Increasing the Gear Score of your Crafts
There are multiple ways to boost the gear score of your Engineering crafts. These bonuses can either increase the minimum and/or maximum gear score of your crafts. Below is a list of what you can do to improve the gear score of your crafts.

Trophies can be placed in each of your three houses that grant a +3/4/5 (Minor/Basic/Major) minimum gear score increase for all of your crafts related to that trade skill.
In order to craft any Basic or Major trophy, it will require a special crafting ingredient that can be obtained from Supply Stockpiles.

---|---|
Engineer's Technique Manuals | Basic |
Precision Engineering Tools | Major |
Crafting Food for Engineering
Herb-Crusted Vegetables will increase the minimum and maximum gear score of your Engineering crafts by +15. It lasts 40 minutes, so try to have all of your materials prepared beforehand.
Town Project Bonuses
Each settlement will have different town projects working at any given time, and you can check what bonus perks are active by going to the to territory planning board in any settlement. As a note, you must own a house in the settlement to receive the town project bonus.
High-Quality Materials and Crafting Skill
Most crafts will enable you to use materials that are higher than what's necessary to craft them, allowing you to increase their gear score. When you are aiming to craft those high gear score items to either use or sell, you will always want to use the highest materials possible.
Your crafting skill also increases the gear score of items you can craft by up to +25 at maximum crafting level. Long story short, the higher your Engineering trade skill level is, the better the outcome!
