Joining Factions in New World: Aeternum

Last updated Yesterday at 00:00 by Savvvo

As you journey through the diverse regions of Aeternum, you'll align yourself with one of the game's three factions (Marauders, Syndicate or Covenant). In this guide, we'll explore what you need to do to join a faction, the benefits of doing so, an overview of faction quests, and some of the differences between each.

The Ultimate Faction Guide for New World: Aeternum

Choosing your faction in New World: Aeternum is a crucial decision that will influence your gameplay experience, impacting a range of in-game activities, especially PvP activities.

In this comprehensive guide, we cover everything you need to know about factions, including how to join a faction, what your options are, what they differences are between them, and what can be found within the faction shop.

How to Join a Faction

In order to join a faction, you must be at least level 17. Once your character hits 17, three icons will appear on the map, each symbolizing a different faction.

These icons indicate the location of the faction-specific NPC that will kick-start the associated quest line for each faction. Once you complete the first few quests within the specific quest line of your choice, you will be given the opportunity to join the faction.

The easiest way to associate these factions are with their distinctive colors.

Marauders are green.

Syndicate are purple.

Covenant are yellow.

Please note: You will be able to switch factions in case you regret your decision. There is a catch though - you can only swap once every 60 days, and you cannot swap to the specific faction that holds the most territory at that specific time.

Worry not though - if the faction you want to join holds most of the map, just give it a few days, and chances are high that they might lose some of the territory, granting you access to make the switch.

Benefits of Joining a Faction

There are many benefits associated with joining a faction. For starters, once you join a faction, you will have the ability to “flag” for PvP. By flagging for PvP, you will be able to pick-up some very helpful buffs, including a global luck bonus, and even a global experience bonus (making your leveling process even easier).

Additionally, once you join a specific faction, you will unlock a new chat option known as “Faction Chat”, allowing you to speak globally to all other members of that faction. This chat is essentially global chat, but specific to a faction (which is very helpful when strategizing in open world PvP and influence races).

Lastly, and probably most importantly, by joining a faction you will then unlock the ability to join a company within that specific faction. You will NOT be able to join a company outside of your faction, so if you are planning on playing with friends, make sure you all choose the same faction.

Faction Overview

As mentioned, there are three factions you can choose from. Realistically, there are no major differences between the three, other than the fact that they symbolize a different color.

The most important thing is to ensure that you choose a faction based on who you want to play with. By choosing a faction with players you want to play with, you will be able to be in the same company, fight on the same side in open-world PvP and influence races, and more!

Below is a brief description of the lore behind each of these factions. If you plan on playing solo, it might be worth choosing the one that has the most interesting lore to you (or simply the one with your favorite color option).

  • Marauders: Proud warriors who fight with honor for glory and self-improvement.
  • Syndicate: Clever disciples who fight with cunning for the sake of truth and progress.
  • Covenant: Divine champions who fight with conviction for righteousness and justice.

Faction Missions

By joining a faction, you gain access to accepting a new type of quest known as faction quests. By visiting the faction-specific NPC representative in any major town, you will be provided a total of 6 quests to choose from - 3 of them being PvE missions, and 3 being PvE missions.

PvE Missions: These quests task you with defeating specific enemies or completing objectives related to the game's various factions and corrupted creatures. They provide a great way to earn experience, while also fostering cooperation with other faction members. These missions can vary in difficulty, making them suitable for both solo players and groups.

PvP Missions: These quests involve potentially engaging in combat against players from opposing factions. Participating in PvP missions not only enhances your skills in combat, but also contributes to your faction's total influence when completed during influence races.

Completing these missions earns you faction tokens, which can be used to purchase exclusive rewards from the faction shop.

6.

Faction Shop Rewards

One of the other major benefits of joining a faction is that it grants you access to the faction shop. The faction shop contains a large range of useful gear, items, consumables, and more.

Below is a list of some of the most sought-after and useful items that you can access through the faction shop.

One of the interesting things though is that there are actually a few unique items that you can only buy within the faction shop if you are a specific faction. These specific items can be found below.
