Smelting Trade Skill Guide for New World
Welcome to the ultimate smelting guide for New World: Aeternum, where you'll learn the secrets behind refining raw materials into valuable ingots and assets. In this guide, you'll get an in-depth look at everything you need to know about the smelting trade skill.
Smelting Overview in New World: Aeternum
Smelting in New World: Aeternum is a useful and fundamental trade skill that allows players to refine raw ores into valuable ingots, which are required when crafting armor, weapons, and other essential end-game items (and is directly linked with Mining, Engineering, Armoring, and Weaponsmithing.) This direct link is due to the refined ingots and ingredients created through the smelting process, which are critically important for creating and upgrading high-end gear, tools, furniture, and more.
In essence, mastering the smelting trade skill can lead to not only gaining access to the resources required for crafting the most powerful equipment in the game, but also opens the door for significant gold-making opportunities.
In this guide, we'll cover everything you need to know about smelting, including necessary refining reagants, leveling strategies, gold-making strategies, and more.
Refining Reagents for Smelting
Flux is the refining reagent for Smelting, and it is required when trying to craft up your materials. To be more specific, you will be required to use Obsidian Flux when creating ingots of steel quality or higher (luckily, no flux is needed when making Iron Ingots).
For example, in order to smelt a Starmetal Ingot, you will need 6 Starmetal Ore, 2 Steel Ingots, 2 Charcoal, and 1 Obsidian Flux. It's important to note that as the quality of the ingot increases, the previous-quality ingot will be part of the actual smelting recipe. For more information about these different quality ingots, and the level requirements for each, take a closer look at the next section.
Leveling Smelting in New World: Aeternum
Smelting is a fairly simple skill to level up; the most experience you can acquire is from the highest tier materials you can craft, so always craft up for maximum experience. However, you can take a cheaper route and continue to only craft the lower materials which are extremely useful, and can still sell for plenty of gold (many players would rather just buy those lower level resources than farm them themselves).
Below is a table of refined resources you can create with the Smelting trade skill, along with the materials and level they require.
Refined Resources | Materials Required | Smelting Level | Experience Gained |
---|---|---|---|
Charcoal | Any wood or planks x2, or 1 Wooden Coin (at level 200) | 0 | +22 |

Yield-Increasing Gear
Each of the refining trade skills have a gear set that increase the total yield you receive while refining by 2% per item. For Smelting, it is the Smelter's Mitts, Pants and Shoes. You can generally find these as drops in the open world, or on the Trading Post. Keep in mind that some of these pieces may be much more expesnive than others.
Armor | Drop Source |
---|---|
Smelter's Headgear | Package of Specialized Smelting Materials or Dawn's Chariot Khepri (in Brimstone Sands) |
Smelter's Smock | Package of Specialized Smelting Materials or Batheqet of the Cudgel (in Brimstone Sands) |
Smelter's Mitts | Package of Specialized Smelting Materials or Mountain Colossus Sakhr'geb (in Brimstone Sands) |
Smelter's Pants | Package of Specialized Smelting Materials or Montukahl of the Shield (in Brimstone Sands) |
Smelter's Shoes | Package of Specialized Smelting Materials or Thunder Antaeus Atumnem (in Brimstone Sands) |
How to Make Gold in Smelting
There are a range of ways on how you can make gold with the Smelting trade skill. For starters, the high-end ingots that you'll be crafting will be extremely sought-after, and you'll be able to make a direct profit off of these most of the time simply by selling them via the in-game trade chat of Trading Post.
Another method is to utilize your actual high-level Smelting skill as your advantage, and charge other players for you to smelt their raw ingredients. If you have all of the necessary Smelting gear, and are max level, you will likely gain more "bonus" crafts, making the Smelting process more valuable. Additionally, if you haven't used your daily cooldown for the high-end ingots (such as the Prismatic Ingot), you can sell your "cooldown" in a way, where a player would provide you with the ingredients necessary to craft 10 Prismatic Ingots, as well as some gold (for you), in exchange for you to smelt the ingredients, and return the finished product.
