If you are the type of player who loves chasing side content, Assassin’s Creed Shadows gives you plenty of reasons to explore beyond the story. You will be able to find and participate in a total of 9 different side activities throughout the game!
These activities appear as question marks on your map once you synchronize with a viewpoint. If you approach the question mark, it will change and let you know what specific activity it is.

- Horse Archery
- Amount: 10
- Rewards: XP, knowledge points, and a new horse design
- Character: Exclusive to Yasuke.
- Description: Engage in horseback archery challenges where Yasuke must shoot targets along a designated path. This activity tests your precision and timing while on horseback.
- Katas Performances
- Amount: 18
- Rewards: Knowledge points
- Character: Exclusive to Yasuke.
- Description: Participate in kata sessions, which are quick-time events requiring Yasuke to execute a series of combat moves within a set timeframe. Successfully completing katas improves Yasuke’s combat proficiency.
- Kuji Kiri
- Amount: 22
- Rewards: After finding 4, unlock a quest for Naoe, finding them all unlocks an achievement
- Character: Exclusive to Naoe.
- Description: Engage in meditation challenges involving timing and memory. Completing kuji-kiri not only provides knowledge points but also unlocks flashback quests about Naoe’s backstory.
- Kofun Tombs
- Amount: 10
- Rewards: Knowledge points, XP, legendary gear that scales to your current level
- Character: Accessible to both Naoe and Yasuke, with certain tombs specific to each character’s abilities.
- Description: Explore ancient, labyrinthine tombs filled with traps and puzzles. Navigating these kofun tombs successfully leads to valuable rewards and insights into the game’s lore.
- Hidden Trails
- Amount: 10
- Rewards: Equipment for Naoe, knowledge points, XP
- Character: Exclusive to Naoe.
- Description: Navigate platforming segments that require the use of Naoe’s grappling hook to traverse challenging terrains. Completing these trails often leads to chests containing rare gear.
- Sumi-e Painting
- Amount: 24
- Character: Accessible to both characters.
- Description: Engage in the traditional art of sumi-e painting, allowing players to create artistic representations of the game’s landscapes and scenes. This activity provides a serene diversion from combat and exploration.
- Temples
- Amount: 36
- Rewards: Knowledge points and XP
- Character: Accessible to both characters.
- Description: Explore ancient temples to collect Lost Pages hidden in various locations, such as rooftops or pedestals. Gathering these pages contributes to earning knowledge points, and improving character abilities.
- Shrines
- Amount: 27
- Rewards: Knowledge points and XP
- Character Specificity: Accessible to both characters.
- Description: Visit peaceful shrines where players can pray at different spots. These activities are straightforward and can be completed by either character.
- Castles
- Amount: 38
- Reward: Large amount of XP
- Character: Accessible to both characters.
- Description: Infiltrate and explore fortified castles, often filled with enemy forces and valuable treasures. These strongholds present complex challenges and are integral to the game’s narrative progression.
Tip: Use Eagle Vision + Observe (L2) to spot Lost Pages, which are the best source of Knowledge Points for faster progression.
