Now that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is released since a few days, players are starting to explore the open-world. Various hidden paths and secrets have been found! Among those, you may have seen a video show up on your social media! A Demon Slayer Easter Egg can be found!

Demon Slayer is one of the most popular anime. During the show, the main character is training his Water Breathing techniques in a specific place. Once he masters it, he slashes a rock in half. Turns out, you can find a very similar location in Shadows. In this secret path, you have the exact same slashed rock, and a reward.

How to Find the Demon Slayer Easter Egg

If you are playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and you are a fan of Demon Slayer, you may wonder how you can access this Easter Egg. Well here is a very quick guide on where to find it:

  • Equip Naoe (you will need her, as you need to complete a jumping puzzle involving the grappling hook)
  • Travel to the Border between Izumi Setzu and Yamato
  • Activate the Viewpoint called “Mizumi Pagoda”
  • Travel northeast of the viewpoint, and you should reach the location called “The Secret Path
  • Complete the Short Jumping Puzzle (do not worry, there is no penalty if you fall, you just have to climb back up)
  • After the puzzle, you should reach the end of the Path and notice the Split Rock

There is not much to do there other than picking up a chest that contains an Epic Headgear for Naoe called Sumire’s Hood.

Is It Truly a Demon Slayer Easter Egg, or an Actual Legend

While it is very tempting to link the split rock to Demon Slayer, the chances are it does not actually refer to that. This location more likely refers to the legend of Itto-Seki.

Itto-Seki is a massive 7-meter square rock, split in half. Located in the Nara Prefecture in Japan.

Legend has it that this rock was split in half by Sekishusai (also known as Yagyu Munetoshi). He was a master swordsman who entered this location to train, and fought with a Tengu (a long-nosed goblin). He sliced in two this ancient rock when he cut down the Tengu with a single stroke of his sword — Itto-Seki, or “One Sword Stone“.

The stone is not far from the Houtoku-ji Temple from the Yagyu Clan. It has a beautiful view on the Yagyu Village, and the former high-ranking samurai residence from the late Edo period.
