Atomfall, developed by Rebellion, is a first-person action survival game set in an alternate 1960s England, five years after a nuclear disaster. You navigate the quarantined countryside, fighting mutated creatures, hostile factions, and uncovering hidden secrets. The game revolves around exploration and survival, offering minimal guidance and encouraging you to discover things yourself.
However, there are a few things that the game does not tell you, that can be really useful to start with. To help you with your journey through the terrifying landscapes of Atomfall, here are some essential tips and tricks:
Get a Metal Detector Early
Hidden caches that contain valuable resources and items are scattered throughout the open world. Obtaining a metal detector early on will significantly improve your scavenging abilities. You can purchase one from traders like Molly Jowett in Slatten Dale, or find one on a corpse near a small body of water by the water wheels in eastern Slatten Dale.
The metal detector caches can also contain some rare collectibles, so you definitely do not want to miss out on those!

Do Not Forget to Check Behind Waterfalls
This is common video game knowledge, but in case you forgot about it: waterfalls hide things. In Atomfall, you want to check each waterfall. To do so, you just have to walk through the water. Chances are, you will find a hidden path behind the water that will lead you to some chest, weapon, or other mysteries.
Drink Tea, Especially in Wyndham
After all, you are in England, and drinking tea is important. So once you get to Wyndham, and you happen to be low life, walk around and try to find the scattered tea cups. Interacting with those cups will restore your full health!
Use the Signal Redirector
The Signal Redirector is a major tool for accessing certain areas and progressing in the game. It can be obtained from Dr. Garrow in the solitary confinement area of Skethermoor Prison. Deciding if you want to free Dr. Garrow or not will influence upcoming interactions with Protocol Soldiers as well.
Engage with Factions Strategically
Not all factions are immediately hostile. Building relationships through specific actions can grant access to restricted areas and resources. For instance, helping Captain Sims in Wyndham Village allows entry into Skethermoor Prison without conflict.

Be Cautious of Environmental Hazards
The open-world is filled with traps and environmental dangers. When exploring buildings or new areas, carry on with caution and be on the lookout for tripwires, mines, and other hazards that can cause significant damage.
Visit All the Areas and Talk to All the NPCs
Atomfall works in a unique way when it comes to its quests. Visiting all the areas early on allows you to find items and NPCs that may unlock more. Some items can send you to completely new areas, for example. The NPC’s can also have very useful information or items that you may need. Hence, you should not hesitate to talk to everyone early on in the game.
Do Not Clear Dungeons Unless You Have To
You do not want to clear out dungeons as soon as you find them. The chances are you will have to go back because of a quest later on and do it all again. Some items inside dungeons spawn only after you get certain quests. Those quests force you to go back to the dungeon at that specific moment. Enemies respawn, so if you don’t want to have to go through a full dungeon over and over again, we recommend you wait until a quest actually sends you in there.

With these few tips and tricks, you should manage to get a good start in the game!
