Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an upcoming story-rich RPG developed by Sandfall Interactive, a small French Studio. The game releases on April 24, 2025, on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and Epic Games Store. With just a few days remaining until launch, the team at Sandfall Interactive continues to unveil new trailers and insights about their highly anticipated game. The latest reveal is a beautiful soundtrack made up of three distinct songs that together form a single, cohesive piece.

What Is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The game is set in a beautifully painted fantasy world inspired by Belle Epoque France. We follow the tragic journey of a group of characters marked for death by a mysterious entity known as the Paintress. Each year, the Paintress names a number, and every person of that age is instantly erased from existence.

With only one year left to live, Gustave, Maelle, and the other members of Expedition 33, set out on a desperate journey to end the Paintress’ deadly cycle.

The game blends tactical, turn-based combat with rich world-building and emotionally charged storytelling.

If you are excited to dive into the world’s lore, don’t miss the latest story trailer, narrated by Maelle. It’s available in both French and English. The trailers feature the voices of Adeline Chetail (FR) and Jennifer English (EN) as Maelle. The sentimental voice acting brings the character’s emotion and resolve to life in both languages. Here is the English version:

A Soundtrack That Paints With Light — Nos Vies en Lumière

When the Expedition 33 announcement trailer first dropped, players were introduced to the dramatic song Une vie à peindre. This one instantly set the emotional tone for the game’s world.

But now, Sandfall Interactive has revealed that this piece was only part of a larger musical narrative. Alongside Une vie à peindre, two additional tracks — Une vie à t’aimer and Une vie à rêver — come together to form a complete three-part sequence titled: Nos vies en Lumière.

For those curious, here are a few ways the song titles can be interpreted and translated into English: A Life to Paint, A Life Spent Loving You, A Life Spent Dreaming, and Our Lives Under the Light. Given the game’s tragic lore, there are multiple ways to understand the meaning behind these French titles. In their original form, each carries a profound and emotional weight.

This collection of songs captures the essence of Expedition 33: a passionate exploration of life, love, dreams, and loss in a world governed by arbitrary fate. The compositions weave gentle orchestration with melancholic melodies, echoing the game’s themes of defiance and hope despite darkness.
