Moon Studios has officially announced The Breach, the next major content update for No Rest for the Wicked, set to launch on April 30, 2025. The new update was revealed during the Wicked Inside Showcase 2, where the team discussed everything players can expect; from expanded zones and new story content to deeper build systems and huge quality-of-life upgrades.
Here is a quick breakdown of everything you can expect:
A Fully Independent Studio and a Fresh Start
Moon Studios also revealed that they have reacquired the publishing rights to the game from Private Division, making them fully independent. This big shift delayed development slightly, but it now gives the team full creative freedom to shape the game however they want, without outside interference.
What Is New in The Breach Update?

The Breach directly responds to player feedback by expanding nearly every part of the game.
Highlights include:
- A continuation of the main campaign following Ellsworth’s return to Sacrament
- New hand-crafted zones, including the Lowland Meadows, Marin Woods, and Marin Village
- A new faction: The Harvesters, now occupying parts of the overworld
- Deeper lore development with new characters like Odessa’s godmother Irmgard
These new areas double the size of the game world, and everything remains entirely hand-crafted; no procedural generation here.
New Weapons, Enemies, Bosses, and Build Options
Combat is getting more variety and challenge with new weapons and enemy types.
- New Weapon Archetypes:
- Gauntlets – heavy melee combat.
- Wands – powerful spellcasting for ranged builds.
- New spells and abilities, such as:
- Ice Dart
- Cold Sling
- Plague Explosion
- Lightning Bolt
- New Enemy Types:
- Timber Wights, Rust Reavers, Copse Treader, Stalking Jay, and more.
- New Boss Fights: Of course, new boss fights are also on the way, but most remain under wraps for now.

Spilled Blood System & World Events
Post-campaign gameplay gets a huge overhaul through the new Spilled Blood system. Zones can now become infected by the Pestilence, spawning tougher enemies and unique loot.
To cleanse an infected area, players must:
- Defeat enemies to reduce the Pestilence meter
- Defeat a Plague Boss to fully cleanse the zone

These dynamic world states keep zones engaging, even after completing the main story.
Gear & Build System Overhaul
Loot systems are also getting a huge upgrade. No more outdated tiered gear drops; everything now scales with your level, area level, and enemy level.
Other important changes:
- Fallen Embers can now:
- Add missing enchantments
- Re-roll individual stats
- Respec your character
- Masterworks gear rarity lets you build custom items from common gear using gems
- Enchantment lists have been reworked for better build variety and fewer overpowered combos

Shields, Hardcore Mode, and QoL Improvements
Defensive playstyles are also getting some love! Shields now use Poise and Stagger mechanics instead of stamina.
A new Hardcore Mode has also been added:
If your character dies, they are permanently downgraded to a standard character. It’s brutal—but for some players, that is the thrill.
Quality-of-life upgrades include:
- Better storage systems (more stacking, better sorting)
- Whisper Stones for fast travel to/from player homes
- Food cooldowns removed — you can now eat instantly, but meals are limited per combat and can be upgraded with Plague Ichor

Save System and Roadmap
Due to the scale of this update, you will need to start a new playthrough to fully experience The Breach. Older saves will be moved to a Legacy Build, but the new content is created in a way that makes replaying worthwhile.
Looking ahead, the team confirmed that the next major update will be Co-op Mode, followed by:
- Expanded Sacrament town
- Housing and farming systems
- Crucible improvements
- More campaign chapters
- Console releases
