Who is Freja?
Freja comes from Denmark and was once Overwatch’s most renowned search-and-rescue operative, dedicated to saving lives. However, following the disbandment of Overwatch, she transitioned into a bounty hunter role.
Abilities Overview
Freja is designed as a high-skill, precision-based Damage hero, offering a unique playstyle that rewards accuracy and strategic positioning. Her abilities include:
- Revdraw Crossbow: Her primary weapon fires rapid, automatic crossbow bolts, allowing for sustained ranged pressure.
- Take Aim: This secondary fire ability slows her movement briefly to line up a high-speed explosive bolt, dealing significant damage upon impact.
- Quick Dash: A versatile movement ability that lets Freja dash quickly in any direction, automatically reloading her explosive bolt and enabling swift repositioning.
- Updraft: Freja launches herself into the air using a wind, allowing her to reach elevated positions or evade threats.
- Explosive Bola (Ultimate): Her ultimate ability fires an explosive bola that traps an enemy. It is also pulling in nearby foes before detonating for area-of-effect damage.
Development Insights
Freja’s design draws inspiration from a famous piece of concept art that came before the original Overwatch game. Her development goal was to explore the narrative of former Overwatch agents adapting to new roles in a changed world.

Looking Ahead
Following Freja’s introduction, Blizzard has teased another upcoming hero code-named “Aqua.” A Chinese water wielder with a unique skill set, who should join the roster in Season 18.
As always, keep your eyes open for more news to come!
