Assassin’s Creed Shadows contains various secrets and mysteries that are not necessarily visible at first. However, players on Reddit have gathered a lot of tips and tricks that will help you get a good start with the game!

Game Mechanics & Exploration
- Mastering Tools – Kunai are used against human enemies, while shurikens are for disabling lights and alarms.
- Surprising Encounters – Hold L2 (on PS5) periodically while riding on horseback—you might land upon unexpected targets.
- Swimming Steed – Your horse can swim, but only up to a certain depth, so be mindful of water crossings.
- Skipping Cutscenes – The seasonal change cinematic can be skipped, saving you time.
- Intel Over Scouts – When prompted to choose between World Intel or Scout after helping an NPC, always opt for World Intel. This will reveal hidden locations, targets, or clues. Scouts can be refreshed for 200 Mons at the Kakurega or by waiting for the seasonal change.
Combat & Stealth Tips
- Samurai Daisho Battles – Defeating one Samurai Daisho and retreating to your hideout to restock is a useful strategy. The fight does not reset when you return. However, if you log out or the season changes, any part of the Castle you cleaned will reset.
- Interrupting Unstoppable Attacks – A well-timed Kunai or Shuriken can disrupt unstoppable attacks, giving you the upper hand.
- Assassination Missions – Be cautious when starting assassination quests. If you eliminate the leader before their subordinates, you may lose out on rewards. The subordinates will be considered “spared” and you will not get the stuff they can loot.
- Castle Servants – NPCs mopping floors can be freely attacked, but recruiting an ally and leveling them up can grant a perk that allows these servants to ignore you, sparing unnecessary conflict.
- Castle NPC – Those same NPCs are considered civilians, so be careful as when you kill too many of them you get desynchronized.
- Rope Traversal Warning – Avoid walking on ropes while playing as Yasuke—they break, sending you straight into danger. He is too heavy for the parkour stuff.
- Fight Club Advantage – Yasuke, paired with a well-upgraded Naginata, can easily dominate the fight club due to its impressive range. Make sure to invest skill points into it.
- Castle Raids with Yasuke – Always send Naoe in first to unlock an eagle point before raiding a castle with Yasuke. This acts as a manual checkpoint, allowing for faster travel if things go south.
Character Progression & Builds
- Skill Slot Limitation – You can only equip two active weapon skills at a time. Choose wisely to avoid unnecessary resets.
- Engraving Strategy – Focus on Armor Damage and Armor Piercing early to maximize combat effectiveness.
- Quest Completion Optimization – Side quests can be completed but left unsubmitted until you reach a higher level, ensuring better rewards.
- Level Scaling Benefits – Lower-level areas will scale to match your level, meaning their loot will also improve over time.
Hideout & Economy
- Invest in Your Hideout – Upgrading your hideout early provides key advantages, such as reduced smuggling costs, cheaper Kakurega access, and increased resource yields.
- Efficient Resource Farming – Kakurega contracts offer a reliable way to earn materials and experience, and they are quick and easy to complete.
Map & Quest Navigation
- Jizo Statues for Completionists – If you aim for 100% completion, interact with every Jizo statue you encounter.
- Waypoint vs. Quest Marker – The pathfinder will always direct you to the last manually marked location, even if you’re tracking an active quest. Keep this in mind when setting waypoints.
Healing & Resource Management
- Auto-Heal Trick – When near the edge of a hostile area, stepping outside its limits will automatically restore your HP, though med packs will not be recharged.
