Azgalor Guide: Strategy, Abilities, Loot
Azgalor is the fourth boss you will encounter in the Hyjal Summit
25-player raid instance. Azgalor is another DPS check that will require your
raid to do as much damage as possible before losing too many members of your raid
to his Doom ability.
Overview
Azgalor is the fourth boss you will encounter in the Hyjal Summit
raid instance. Azgalor will spawn after fourth and final set of trash waves
is defeated. Azgalor is another DPS check and the difficulty of this boss will
largely depend on your raid's DPS; the more damage you are able to deal the
less you will have to content with his most deadly ability, Doom.
This is a two-tank encounter and should not require you to bring any extra
healers.
Role-Specific Tips for Azgalor
Healer Tips
Spread evenly around the boss to ensure every member of the raid is in range
of at least one healer. Spreading allows you to minimize the impact of Azgalor's
Rain of Fire ability.
Try to keep members of the raid as high health as possible to limit any deaths
while Healers are silenced by Howl of Azgalor.
DPS Tips
Spread evenly around the boss to ensure every member of the raid is in range
of at least one healer. Spreading allows you to minimize the impact of Azgalor's
Rain of Fire ability.
Make sure you are aware of when Howl of Azgalor will be cast to
prevent using cooldowns right before getting silenced.
Tank Tips
The second tank who will be assigned to picking up the Lesser Doomguard
spawned by Doom should assign a specific position near the boss that
allows for DPS to transition quickly from hitting the boss to hitting the Doomguard
and then return to DPSing the boss after the Doomguard has been slain.
Azgalor Abilities
Doom — every 45 seconds Azgalor will cast Doom on a random member of the raid, after the 20-second debuff expires it will instantly kill the target and spawn a Lesser Doomguard.
Howl of Azgalor — Azgalor will occasionally silence the entire raid for five seconds.
Rain of Fire — Azgalor will spawn a Rain of Fire on a random player dealing a large amount of Fire damage to anyone who remains inside of the affected area.
Cleave — Azgalor will deal massive Physical damage to anyone in melee range in front of him.
Strategy for Azgalor
Pulling the Boss
Azgalor will spawn and engage your raid about 60 seconds after the final trash
wave is defeated. It is crucial to be ready to pick him up as soon as he becomes
active and position him in a central location that allows your raid to spread
around him while avoid being in front of him. A location should be predetermined
where players who are targeted by Azgalor's Doom ability should run
to to ensure the Lesser Doomguard is able to be picked up quickly by the
tank assigned to it. This location should be close enough to the boss that DPS
can quickly switch back and forth between the boss and the Doomguard, but not
close enough that DPS may get cleaved by the boss.
Phase One
Azgalor is the same boss fight from the second you engage him until he dies.
Once Azgalor is positioned the raid should be spread evenly around him to avoid
taking any unnecessary damage from his Rain of Fire ability and members
of the raid who are targeted should move out of this as quickly as possible.
Doom will be cast by Azgalor every 45 seconds and there is no way
to avoid this killing the person who is targeted. To minimize the impact this
ability has on your raid consider having your Warlocks create a rotation for
casting their
Soulstone on the player who is targeted by
Doom.
By creating this rotation you will be able to take full advantage of your Warlocks'
utility and minimize the amount of players taken out of the fight by Doom. Players
who are targeted by Doom should make their way to a predetermined location so
they are in range of the Warlock who is assigned to Soulstone them and the Tank
who will be picking up the Lesser Doomguard that will be spawning from
the now dead player; DPS should focus on killing this Doomguard as quickly as
possible before returning to DPSing Azgalor. Azgalor will also occasionally cast
Howl of Azgalor, silencing everyone in the raid. This effect can be
resisted so the importance of
Shadow Resistance Aura from Paladins and
Prayer of Shadow Protection from priests cannot be understated.
Improved Concentration Aura from Paladins may also be something to
consider if you are having a particularly hard time handling the silence.
