Leatherworking offers many different gear options throughout all Phases of TBC Classic. In addition to gear, it is a great raiding profession for the various party-wide drum buffs it can offer. In this guide, we will show you all the different gear available to Leatherworkers, how to train the profession, unlock its different specializations, and many other things.

1.

Introduction

Leatherworking is most commonly used by both Leather and Mail wearers as the gear crafted through it is very strong, especially in the early gearing process. In addition to the gear that players can make, it is commonly used a raiding profession for the multiple different Drums available. These Drums can be quite strong when multiple Leatherworkers are in the same party and use their Drums in a specified order.

Leatherworking is best combined with Skinning, as this will allow you to farm many of the needed materials yourself. It is highly recommended to have Skinning when increasing your Leatherworking skill level, even if it is on an alt character. It takes a rather large quantity of leather to finish this profession off, so being able to farm some of it can greatly help with reducing your gold spent on the auction house.

You may also find that Leatherworking can be used to complement your goldmaking in TBC Classic. For more information on this among other methods involving alternative professions, please see our separate guide on the topic:

Leatherworking Specializations

Leatherworking has a few possible specialization options available in TBC Classic: Dragonscale, Elemental and Tribal. These three specializations each offer unique Level-70 gear choices for many different classes. Check out the gear listed below to see which specialization best suits you.

6.1.

Dragonscale Leatherworking

To become a Dragonscale Leatherworker, you will need to complete a quest that requires you to turn in some crafted Leatherworking gear and materials to a quest giver in the open world.

The materials needed to complete this quest for either faction are:

6.1.1.

Dragonscale Leatherworking Gear

Dragonscale Leatherworking is unique out of all of the Leatherworking specializations as it offers two different craftable gear sets at Level 70. The first gear set shown below is Mail armor, primarily used by physical damage dealers such as Hunters. This gear offers a 20 Hit Rating bonus if all three pieces are worn at the same time.

The second set of gear that Dragonscale Leatherworking offers is also Mail, but focuses on stats that spellcasters desire, most commonly used by Elemental Shamans. If all three pieces are worn at the same time, you will gain an additional 23 Spell Power.

6.2.

Elemental Leatherworking

To become an Elemental Leatherworker, you will need to complete a quest that requires you to turn in some crafting materials to a questgiver in the open world.

The materials needed to complete this quest for either faction are:

6.2.1.

Elemental Leatherworking Gear

Elemental Leatherworking offers Leather gear that boosts Physical damage. This gear is most commonly used by Rogues. If all three pieces of gear are worn at the same time, you will gain an additional 40 Attack Power.

6.3.

Tribal Leatherworking

To become a Tribal Leatherworker, you will need to complete a quest chain that requires you to turn in some crafted gear to a quest givers in Feralas and Stranglethorn Vale.

Alliance IconAlliance players will need to follow the quest chain below:

Horde IconHorde players will need to follow the quest chain below:

The materials needed to complete these quests for either faction are:

6.3.1.

Tribal Leatherworking Gear

Tribal Leatherworking offers Leather gear that very uniquely boosts both spell casting and healing at the same time. This gear is most commonly used by Druids to either DPS or heal, and may also be used by some Shamans. If all three pieces of gear are worn at the same time, you will gain an additional 8 Mana-per-5.

7.

Leatherworking Benefits

In TBC Classic, Leatherworking offers many benefits throughout the entire expansion. With almost every single Phase, Leatherworking gains additional uses and benefits to the owner. Below we will go through each Phase of TBC Classic and see what items are available to players.

7.1.

Phase 1

As shown above in the Leatherworking Specializations section, there are many items available to craft for Leatherworkers depending on which specialization you decide to select. In addition to the gear, there are other benefits to having Leatherworking:

Hate them or love them, Leatherworking's Drums offer various, unique party-wide buffs to all group members within 8 yards. The shorter range and cast time on these drums do not reduce the effectiveness of them as long as your group can remain somewhat close together. The more Leatherworkers in the group the better, as that will allow you to use the Drums in succession and keep the buff up as long as possible.

7.2.

Phase 2

Phase 2 offers new patterns for epic boots which can be found in either The Eye or Serpentshrine Cavern.

7.3.

Phase 3

Phase 3 offers new patterns for epic shoulders which can be found in either The Battle for Mount Hyjal or Black Temple.

7.4.

Phase 4

Phase 4 offers new and improved Drums. These are a new item that is being added to TBC Classic that were not in the original version of the game. These new Drums are almost identical to the Drums available from Phase 1, but these Drums have a 40-yard range and are instant-cast.

8.

New Phase 5 Patterns

In Phase 5, multiple new patterns for Leatherworking can be found in the new raid Sunwell Plateau on the Isle of Quel'Danas, dropping from any of the trash mobs.

8.1.

Phase 5 Leatherworking Chest Patterns

These chest patterns are Bind on Use, allowing them to be freely traded between anyone. The chests themselves however are Bind on Pickup when crafted, preventing them from being traded.

8.2.

Phase 5 Leatherworking Glove Patterns

These glove patterns are Bind on Pickup, requiring them to be looted by the Leatherworker directly. The gloves themselves however are Bind on Equip when crafted, allowing them to be traded freely.
