The Pre-Patch period of Wrath of the Lich King Classic is a time to allow players to level or gear up characters while experiencing some of the class changes of the coming expansion before its official launch. Here you will find recommended talents, gear, and some rotation tips for a Demonology Warlock when you can only reach a maximum level of 70.

1.

Overview

Warlocks receive a number of changes with the Wrath of the Lich King pre-patch and, for the most part, they have a very positive impact on the rotations of each specialisation.

Demonology sees the introduction of the long-awaited Metamorphosis IconMetamorphosis spell, an icon spell for Warlock that also provides new rotational nuances to the specialisation, as well as Demonic Pact IconDemonic Pact, an extremely powerful talent.

2.

Talent Build

The talent tree listed above is one of two options you have as Demonology during the pre-patch. It goes deeper into the tree than the other build, opting to pick up Metamorphosis IconMetamorphosis and Demonic Pact IconDemonic Pact and plays slightly differently. With this build, you will be using the Felguard pet, whereas the other build, which is listed below, uses the Imp.

With this build, we opt for talents such as Improved Imp IconImproved Imp, as well as go further into the Destruction tree to pick up Demonic Power IconDemonic Power and Ruin IconRuin, both of which further buff our imp.

2.1.

Glyphs

At Level 70, you will only have access to 2 of your 3 major glyph slots. The minor Glyphs for Warlock are massively unimpactful at this point, hence why we have not chosen to recommend a full set of them. Simply choose as you wish.

If you choose to go for the imp-focused build, then you will need to take the Glyph of Imp, which increases the damage it deals.

3.

Rotation

The rotation as a Destruction Warlock is fairly simple, but it is important to maintain your buffs and debuffs properly.

  1. Shadow Bolt IconShadow Bolt to apply and maintain Shadow Mastery IconShadow Mastery
  2. Maintain Immolate IconImmolate
  3. Maintain Corruption IconCorruption
  4. Maintain Curse of Doom IconCurse of Doom, but only put it back on the target if it will not die within the next 60 seconds.
  5. Cast your "filler" spells with the following priority:

When you are in Metamorphosis IconMetamorphosis, if you are playing that build, you can use your Immolation Aura IconImmolation Aura when in melee range for some extra damage.

4.

Gearing in the Wrath of the Lich King Classic Pre-Patch

The majority of the recommendations for gear in the pre-patch stay the same for Demonology, which you can read on our TBC Warlock gear guide, which is linked below.

4.1.

Tier Set Bonus

For your tier set bonus, you should still aim to have your 4-set T6 bonus and can easily do so by taking the belt, bracers, and boots for 3 of the pieces, given that they are already very strong for Demonology.

For the final piece, you should use either the shoulders or helm, depending on the other piece of gear you have for the second slot.

5.

Enchants

For your enchants, you should use the following:

Slot Enchantment
Head Glyph of Power Icon Glyph of Power
Shoulders Power of the Scourge Icon Power of the Scourge, Greater Inscription of Discipline Icon Greater Inscription of Discipline, Greater Inscription of the Orb Icon Greater Inscription of the Orb, depending on whether you have PotS left over from Naxxramas, as well as your choice of Aldor or Scryers.
Back Enchant Cloak - Subtlety IconEnchant Cloak - Subtlety
Chest Enchant Chest - Exceptional Stats Icon Enchant Chest - Exceptional Stats
Bracers Enchant Bracer - Spellpower IconEnchant Bracer - Spellpower

Weapon Enchant Weapon - Soulfrost Icon Enchant Weapon - Soulfrost (or the easier-to-obtain Enchant Weapon - Major Spellpower Icon Enchant Weapon - Major Spellpower)
6.

Consumables

Warlocks have a large number of consumables that are used in different situations and you can read all about the choices on our TBC Enchants page for Warlock below:
