Last updated on Aug 31, 2022 at 19:42 by Seksixeny 1 comment

On this page we will help you with leveling in WotLK Classic as a Druid. Druids shine in leveling due in part to their versatility, enabling you to take on all roles as necessary in both solo and group content. Druids also have access to a wide variety of abilities that, if used correctly, can help maximize your uptime, kill speed, and rate at which you are able to gain levels.

1.

Introduction

This guide will aim to provide you with a clear skill and gear path to Level 80 in Wrath Classic. While detailing every single quest and the optimal leveling routes is beyond its scope, you can find detailed talent builds for all playstyles, their rotations, and guides for class quests and leveling weapon suggestions below.

Providing non-Druid leveling advice is outside the scope of this article and is covered in our general Wrath leveling guide.

Specialization Options for Leveling Druids in Wrath

Druids have two main leveling options: Balance or Feral.

Balance is a ranged DPS caster, and its leveling is all about pulling enemies from a distance and killing them before they can deal much return damage. While relatively slow in its early levels, once Starfall IconStarfall is obtained you can reliably pull and multiple masses of enemies at once frequently, making it an excellent leveler. Its talents are also suited for healing in leveling dungeons when needed.

Feral is a melee DPS, and its leveling is all about quickly killing individual enemies with next to no downtime, as your Mana will regenerate while you are killing enemies in Cat Form IconCat Form and later on you do not even need to leave form in order to heal due to Predatory Strikes IconPredatory Strikes giving out instant casts after you use your finishers. Its talents are also suited for tanking in leveling dungeons when needed.

A pure Restoration or Feral Tank talent build is highly discouraged while leveling, as it is simply not needed for healing / tanking in leveling dungeons, while being drastically slower whenever you are questing in the world. Regardless, we offer a quick look at what a Restoration leveling build would be in the link below.

Dungeon Leveling / Cleaving as a Druid

Leveling in dungeons is a popular way to reach Level 80 quickly and painlessly in Wrath Classic, as it skips world congestion on highly populated servers and provides reliable experience values. There are two major gains to be had from skipping questing:

  • Avoiding PvP and Competition for tags will make your experience gain much more consistent over time;
  • Minimal Wrath Quest and Zone knowledge required, which will be particularly relevant for anyone who is not familiar with the questing content but still wants to rush to 80.

Druids are always welcome in any group due to their strong DPS and the versatility of being able to DPS, tank, or heal whenever required.

This is especially true for Ferals, whose tree is made for tanking and DPSing in a single-talent setup, and they can even do some pretty noteworthy healing with Predatory Strikes IconPredatory Strikes plus Nurturing Instinct IconNurturing Instinct!

Balance can also be an excellent support, with great AoE capabilities for quick dungeon clearing and decent talents for healing, if needed.

Leveling Professions for Druids in Wrath

Learning professions early on is very useful, as you can naturally level them as you go and avoid extra work at max level. While you can start right away with crafting professions if you have extra gold to spare or other characters to rely on for getting started, gathering professions are recommended as they create gold for you without requiring any initial investment.

We recommend that you learn First Aid (for Mana-sustain purposes) and two out of Skinning, Herbalism, and Mining. You can readily level these alongside your questing path, which will provide a steady gold income along the way through the auction house. At maximum level you can easily drop these gathering professions and power-level your crafting professions of choice by buying materials, so do not worry about falling behind during leveling.

Preferred Gear and Stats Options for Leveling Wrath Druids

As Feral, most of your gear should have Agility or Strength on it, as they are the stats that increase your damage the most. Any Crit or Haste you can find is also welcomed, or Stamina gear if you are planning on tanking a lot.

For Balance, try to aim for Intellect, Spell Power, and any Crit or Haste you can find, as these stats will help you out the most.

By setting yourself up with an upgraded user interface and macros from the get-go, you will make your leveling process much easier. Check out our Druid Addons and Druid Macros guide in the links below for the full list.

Weapon Options for Leveling Druids in Wrath Classic

While all gear is relevant while leveling, weapons are the most important pieces due to carrying the majority of the (Feral) Attack Power and Spell Power your character will have, and thus increasing your DPS the most.

Important Druid Quests in Wrath Classic

Every class in Wrath Classic has important class-specific quests that allow them to gear up and learn new active abilities which are often critical to the class. Most of your animal forms are given as rewards from doing these quests, and we will detail every single step of the way for you in our full guide for quests below for both Horde and Alliance Druids.

Progressing your Druid at Level 80

By the time you hit maximum level, it will be very helpful to read the rest of our guides. Pick Restoration Druid if you intend to heal at maximum level, Feral DPS Druid if you want to deal damage in melee range, Feral Tank Druid if you want to be a sturdy tank, and Balance Druid if you want to be a great caster which most raids will want multiples of.
