WotLK Classic Fishing Profession and Leveling 1-450 Guide
Fishing is a secondary profession that any character can learn. It does not take up a primary profession slot as other professions such as Tailoring or Herbalism would.
Leveling up Fishing can take a fair amount of time, as you are limited by how quickly fish will be caught on each cast, rather than the cast time of a recipe in other professions.
Note that, when you do level Fishing, you will have a huge amount of fish that can be used to level your Cooking. It is recommended that you use this fish to level Cooking up at the same time, saving yourself plenty of gold.
Introduction
Fishing is one of the three secondary professions available to all players in WotLK Classic. Because of this, it can be learned by all players without conflicting with other professions. This can be useful early on to provide yourself with free food while leveling.
Fishing goes great when paired together with Cooking as you can use most of the fish you catch while fishing to level your cooking at the same time, leveling 2 professions for free at once.
Training Fishing in Wrath of the Lich King
Apprentice & Artisan
You can learn Fishing from any Fishing trainer, which are found in capital cities. When you arrive at a major city, you can ask any city guard for directions and pick the Fishing trainer option under the professions section. This will mark its location on your map, allowing you to easily find them and get the Fishing skill.
Master
To train past 300 skill level, you need to speak with a Master Fishing trainer in either Outland or Northrend. This will allow you to train up to level 375 Fishing.
Grand Master
To learn Fishing past 375 skill level you must travel to Northrend and talk with a Grand Master Fishing trainer found below. This will allow you to max your Fishing skill out at 450.
Alliance
- Old Man Robert in Borean Tundra;
- Byron Welwick in Howling Fjord.
Horde
- Fishy Ser'ji in Borean Tundra;
- Angelina Soren in Howling Fjord.
Neutral
- Marcia Chase in Dalaran City.
Leveling Fishing in Wrath of the Lich King
Fishing is a fairly easy, but time-consuming, profession to level. You should try to level it alongside Cooking, as a large portion of what you fish up can be used to keep your cooking skill at a similar level to your fishing skill. These two professions go hand-in-hand together.
In Wrath of the Lich King, you can level the Fishing skill in any water where you can cast your line. This allows you to easily sit at the Fishing trainer in a capital city and level from 1-300 in one spot.
At level 300, you will have to head to Outland and talk with Juno Dufrain to learn Master Fishing. You can also learn this from one of the Northrend trainers shown above. When you can get your total fishing skill to around 400, you can head to Northrend and finish leveling there, or stay in Outland until you max out at 375.
At level 375, you will have to head to Northrend and talk with one of the Grand Master Fishing trainers shown above. This will allow you to max out your Fishing skill at 450, the highest possible level in Wrath of the Lich King.
Additional Fishing Skill Increases
In addition to your raw Fishing Skill, you can further increase your skill by using specific items, enchantments, gear, and consumables. This allows you to fish in higher level areas earlier and increases the chance that you will land a fish instead of junk.
Fishing Poles
A fishing pole is one of the easiest ways to gain an increase to your Fishing skill. Arcanite Fishing Pole remains the best-in-slot fishing pole in the game, but requires you to win the Stranglethorn Vale fishing tournament to obtain it, making it rare. Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole is a close alternative option that can be obtained much more easily as The Kalu'ak is an easy faction to gain reputation for.
- Arcanite Fishing Pole — + 40 Fishing — Reward for winning the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza
- Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole — + 30 Fishing — Obtainable when Exalted with The Kalu'ak
- Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole — + 20 Fishing — Obtained from Rather Be Fishin'
Fishing Lures
Fishing Lures are one the easiest and best ways to temporarily gain a large increase to your Fishing skill. Make sure to bring plenty of these with you before you head out on a fishing trip or you may run out before you finish.
- Shiny Bauble — + 25 Fishing for 10 minutes — Sold by most Trade and Fishing Supplies vendors.
- Nightcrawlers — + 50 Fishing for 10 minutes — Sold by most Trade and Fishing Supplies vendors.
- Bright Baubles — + 75 Fishing for 10 minutes — Sold by most Trade and Fishing Supplies vendors.
- Aquadynamic Fish Attractor — + 100 Fishing for 10 minutes — Sold by most Fishing Supplies vendors in limited quantities.
- Sharpened Fish Hook — + 100 Fishing for 10 minutes — High chance to drop from Bag of Fishing Treasures.
- Glow Worm — + 100 Fishing for 1 hour — High chance to drop from Bag of Fishing Treasures.
