WotLK Classic Holy Priest Stat Priority
On this page, you will find out the optimal PvE stat priority for your Holy Priest in WotLK Classic. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations.
Holy Priest Stat Priority in Wrath of the Lich King
- Haste Rating
- Intellect
- Spell Power
- Spirit
- Critical Strike Rating
- Mana per 5
Basic Stats for Holy Priests
Haste Rating
Haste Rating remains your highest healing output stat, greatly increasing your healing potential. Having higher Haste Rating allows you to react quicker to damage and reduce the odds of your spells overhealing. This comes with the cost of higher Mana use, making you run out of Mana quicker.
Generally you will want to increase your Haste Rating if you are not having Mana issues. If you are having Mana issues, you will want to prioritize increasing your Intellect to be able to sustain your heavy spell use.
At Level 80:
- 32.79 Haste Rating = 1% Faster Casting Speed
Intellect
Intellect is a powerful stat, increasing your base Mana pool, Spirit-based Mana regeneration, and spell crit chance. Having a higher Mana pool increases your Mana gained from personal and raid buffs such as: Rapture, Shadowfiend, Hymn of Hope, Replenishment, and any other percentage-based maximum Mana spells or talents.
As a Holy Priest, you will be casting multiple high-Mana-cost spells in quick succession, making this spec very Mana-starved. Stacking Intellect, especially early on, helps counteract this and helps you sustain your massive Mana needs. If you find yourself running into Mana issues, you most likely need to increase your Intellect.
Finally, your Intellect will also be buffed with Blessing of Kings in a raiding environment, increasing the value of the stat even further.
At Level 80:
- 1 Intellect = 15 Mana
- 166.67 Intellect = 1% Spell Crit Chance
Spell Power
Spell Power is the new combined Healing Power and Spell Damage from previous expansions, now streamlined into a singular stat in Wrath of the Lich King. Spell Power increases the raw healing output of your spells, making it an appealing stat.
Spell Power and Intellect are somewhat interchangeable. If you find yourself not struggling with Mana issues, you will want to prioritize Spell Power slightly over Intellect for better overall healing output.
Spirit
Spirit greatly improves your passive Mana regeneration, giving you a high amount of passive Mana return. This passive Mana regeneration is broken up by what is commonly referred to as the "5-second rule".
After casting a spell that costs Mana, your passive Spirit-based Mana regen will be paused for 5 seconds, after which time it will resume, giving you full Mana regeneration again. As a Priest, you have the Meditation talent, allowing 50% of your Spirit-based Mana regeneration to continue at all times, even during the 5-second rule.
As Holy, Spirit also contributes to your Spell Power through the Spiritual Guidance talent, giving you 0.25 Spell Power for every 1 Spirit you have. You also have Holy Concentration, which increases your Spirit-based Mana regeneration.
Lastly, your Spirit will also be increased by Spirit of Redemption and Blessing of Kings in a raiding environment, further increasing your total Spirit.
At Level 80:
- 1 Spirit = 0.25 Spell Power
Critical Strike Rating
While Crit rating is low on your stat priority, it is still an important stat for you. It only loses out to other stats like Spell Power and Haste rating as those are consistently providing value while Crit chance has a randomness factor involved. That being said, be sure not to ignore Crit rating as it has multiple benefits.
Keeping your Crit chance high helps with your Mana sustain greatly through both Holy Concentration and Surge of Light. Crit rating also helps you apply Inspiration to the tanks, giving them a powerful Physical damage reduction buff.
At Level 80:
- 45.91 Crit Rating = 1% Crit Chance
Mana per 5
Mana per 5 is commonly referred to as Mp5. It is a very simple, straightforward stat, restoring Mana back to you every 2 seconds based on your Mana per 5 recovery. This stat is lowest on your priority as you prefer items with Spirit on them instead. That being said, it will be easier to obtain gear with Mp5 on it as it is typically less contested by other classes.
