Holy Priest Pre-Patch Guide for WotLK Classic
The Pre-Patch period of Wrath of the Lich King Classic is a time to allow players to level or gear up characters while experiencing some of the class changes of the coming expansion before its official launch. Here you will find recommended talents, gear, and some rotation tips for a Holy Priest when you can only reach a maximum level of 70.
Talent Builds for Holy Priest in Pre-Patch
Holy Priest in the pre-patch has to choose a spec based on their gear. It is not possible to get all key talents at Level 70, as Meditation requires us to go deeper into the Discipline tree than you can afford. Choose a spec based on your gear and Mana needs.
This spec plays similar to how it will at Level 80, but the main difference is that you do not have Meditation which is a major part of your Mana regeneration. Only choose this spec if you are very geared and do not have Mana concerns. In this spec you are using the Body and Soul talent, which has some fun uses. If you do not want this talent, put the points into Blessed Resilience instead.
This spec goes deeper into the Discipline tree while still grabbing some strong talents in the bottom of the Holy Tree. This gives us Meditation, which is a major part of your Mana regeneration. Unless you are nearly best in slot, you will probably need to use this build to sustain your Mana needs.
Holy has a new playstyle in Wrath of the Lich King. While previously you would simply spam Circle of Healing to keep the raid healthy, this is no longer possible as Circle of Healing now has a 6-second cooldown. Instead you must take advantage of your new talent, Serendipity. You build up stacks by casting both Flash Heal and Binding Heal, and use the stacks to greatly increase your casting speed of Prayer of Healing and Greater Heal. Using the Serendipity buff properly is a key part of playing this spec.
Best Glyphs for Holy Priest in Pre-Patch
Glyphs are a new consumable of sorts introduced in Wrath of the Lich King. Glyphs greatly improve certain spells when you learn them, supporting and even enabling some builds. In the pre-patch of WotLK you only have access to two major glyphs, as the third slot requires Level 80 to unlock.
Major Glyphs for Holy Priest in Pre-Patch
- Glyph of Flash Heal — You use Flash Heal as a filler spell, so this is a decent option to help your Mana sustain.
- Glyph of Power Word: Shield — This is not that great of a glyph for us, but you really have no other good options.
Minor Glyphs for Holy Priest in Pre-Patch
- Glyph of Fortitude — This helps save Mana through an entire raid night, and especially if you need to rebuff someone who died in combat.
- Glyph of Shadow Protection — Is pretty minor, but will save us a bit of Mana throughout an entire raid night.
- Glyph of Levitate — Is simply a quality of life feature, saving us some reagents.

Best in Slot Gear for Holy Priest in Pre-Patch
Your best in slot gear does not change much from Phase 5 of TBC, but ideally you can change a few pieces of gear. Below is a list of recommended best in slot gear, as well as some easy to obtain choices.
However, for newer players especially or if you are playing on one of the Fresh Servers, the gear listed below may not be realistic to obtain for most players in only a month. If you want the most efficient start possible, we would highly recommend farming Honor in the pre-patch through battlegrounds. This will allow you to buy the full "Brutal" PvP set, which is close in power to gear from Sunwell Plateau. While not BiS, it is the closest you will get within the short time frame, and you are guaranteed to obtain it with enough farming.
