Mimiron Encounter Guide: Strategy, Abilities, Loot
Mimiron is the eleventh boss of Ulduar. This boss conveniently has a giant red button that can be pressed to activate the hard mode version of the encounter. Do not forget to be aware of the various Raid Buffs and Debuffs as you work to optimize your Raid Composition for this encounter's mechanics!
Overview of Mimiron in Wrath of the Lich King Classic
Mimiron is the fourth and final Keeper you will encounter in Ulduar. He is an engineer responsible for making many machines you have already faced throughout the raid. The Mimiron fight is one of the longest, having 4 phases, and the most difficult. This is especially true when facing the hard mode version of the encounter.
Role-Specific Tips for Mimiron
DPS Tips
- Melee DPS will always need to be aware of the
Proximity Mines around them and have a safe and quick path away from the boss when
Shock Blast is being cast.
- Do not greed for damage or "optimal" position if it puts you or other players in danger.
- Ranged DPS should spread out around the whole room, except the front of the boss, to prevent multiple players from being hit by the same attacks.
Healer Tips
- Your tank must always have a defensive cooldown available to live through
the
Plasma Blast. Be sure to coordinate abilities, so something is always available.
- Utilize the whole room, except in front of the boss, to spread out and prevent multiple people from being hit by the same attacks.
- This fight is rather long, especially on hard mode; prioritize mana conservation and regeneration gear to make it through.
Tank Tips
- You must always have a defensive cooldown available to survive
Plasma Blast. Be sure to use a personal cooldown or get an external one, or you will not live.
- Make sure to face the boss away from the raid quickly, and that melee DPS have room to attack.

Strategy for Mimiron
Phase One
This fight is very long, having 4 phases and dozens of mechanics to worry
about. In phase one, you will be fighting Leviathan Mk II, a machine
similar to Flame Leviathan. Have your tank quickly establish threat
and face the boss away from the raid. Ranged DPS and healers should spread out
around the room while avoiding the boss's face to mitigate the damage from
Napalm Shell. This leaves heavy Fire damage over time on players hit,
requiring a large amount of healing them to survive. Use a personal defensive
cooldown if you are targeted with this fire.
Tanks need to be constantly mindful of the Plasma Blast timer and
have a personal or external defensive cooldown ready to survive. Always have a
cooldown for the tank and be ready to overheal as much as possible to keep them
alive. Leviathan Mk II will also frequently cast
Shock Blast,
killing all nearby players after 4 seconds. When this cast begins, Melee DPS and tanks must be ready to
run away from the boss.
Lastly, Leviathan Mk II will constantly place Proximity Mines
around itself, surrounding the melee and tanks. It is vital to avoid
activating these mines as it is easy to set off multiple mines, easily leading
to player deaths. The melee DPS and tanks must always be aware of when and where
these mines have been placed so they can always have a path to get away from the
boss when needed.
Phase Two
After defeating Leviathan Mk II, you will now be testing
Mimirons VX-001 machine. This boss does not have an aggro table
and, therefore, can not be tanked. VX-001s main attack is
Rapid Burst, which damages all players in an area with a frontal cone
attack. Make sure your ranged DPS and healers are spread throughout the room
evenly to prevent too many people from being hit by the same
Rapid Burst attack. Melee DPS can run through the boss if it turns to
blast the side you are currently standing on.
Everyone will need to watch the ground near them for any red circles,
as these indicate where the deadly Rocket Strikes are landing. These
are one-shot kills if any player is in the landing area. VX-001 will also
constantly use
Heat Wave, dealing minor Fire damage to the entire
raid and placing serious damage over time debuff on everyone.
While the damage from Heat Wave and
Rapid Burst are
deadly enough for this phase, there is one more main ability all players will
need to be aware of to avoid. VX-001 will begin
Spinning Up its
guns and face a direction. After a few seconds, it will cast
P3Wx2 Laser Barrage, instantly killing anyone remaining in front
of it. While channeling the
P3Wx2 Laser Barrage, VX-001 will
rotate clockwise, requiring players to move similarly to remain
behind the boss and avoid the deadly lasers.
Phase Three
The third and final machine you will be testing is the
Aerial Command Unit. This machine will fly in the air, out of reach of
melee attacks. It does still, however, require a tank to pick it up. Typically
you will have a Warlock grab it with Searing Pain to
establish a threat lead. This ranged tank will be constantly attacked with
Plasma Ball and must be healed to full between each attack.
Constantly throughout this phase, the Aerial Command Unit will call
robots to aid it in the fight. Bomb Bots are similar to those on the
XT-002 Deconstructor fight, and must be killed by ranged players as
they Bomb Bot: Explode when they die, most likely killing anyone
nearby. Kite these away from the raid and have ranged DPS prioritize attacking
these before returning to the boss.
Junk Bots are, as the name suggests, rather useless. Ignore these and
let them die off to natural AoE damage, or wait till a good number of
them gather up and quickly AoE them down. The main bot of this phase is the
Assault Bot. These hard-hitting melee mobs should be slowed and
kited, similar to the Snaplasher from the Freya encounter. Your
tank will need to maintain aggro on these while kiting, and the melee DPS will
need to quickly kill these without pulling aggro. Use any threat redirections
available to help out, and always be mindful of your threat. If the
Assault Bot gets too close to the tank, it will root them with
Magnetic Field, increasing their damage taken by 30% and preventing
them from moving; this must be removed quickly from the tank, or they will
certainly die.
Whenever an Assault Bot is defeated, it will drop a
Magnetic Core. This core can be used on the Aerial Command Unit to
temporarily disable it, forcing it to the ground for 10 seconds and increasing
its damage taken by 50% for the duration. This allows your melee DPS to finally
attack the boss, giving you a good damage window to finish it off.
You will typically want to save up 2 or 3
Magnetic Cores to use them
back-to-back and keep the Aerial Command Unit pinned to the ground for a
longer period, or used at the same time to stack up the 50% increased
damage debuff. Be mindful that
Magnetic Cores only last 1 minute, so you
do not want to hold onto them for too long, or they will go to waste.
Phase Four
In this phase, Mimiron will call out all 3 of the bosses previously encountered one at a time: Leviathan Mk II, VX-001 and Aerial Command Unit. They will only have half health and not use all of their previous abilities. All 3 bosses must die within 10 seconds of each other, or they will revive again, starting the process all over.
The Leviathan Mk II must be tanked again; however, the deadly
Plasma Blast ability is disabled in this phase, as well as the
Napalm Shell. It will keep its
Proximity Mines and
Shock Blast attacks, requiring the melee DPS and tanks always to have
a safe way of getting away from the boss when needed.
The VX-001 unit is now attached on top of Leviathan Mk II,
following it around for the fight. Its previous Rapid Burst ability is
replaced with
Hand Pulse, dealing a bit less damage overall. It will
also no longer use the
Heat Wave ability, greatly reducing the raid
damage taken. The raid will still need to be ready to dodge the constant
Rocket Strikes; as well as periodically avoiding the
P3Wx2 Laser Barrage.
The Aerial Command Unit will sit on top of the VX-001, acting as
the "head" unit. You will still need to have a ranged tank; keep aggro on this
boss to tank the Plasma Ball attack. However, you will no longer need
to deal with the robots constantly spawning.
Mimiron Hardmode Strategy
Mimiron hard mode is started by pressing the Big Red Button at the back of
the room that says "DO NOT PUSH THIS BUTTON" on mouse hover. Ignoring this
warning and pressing the button will start the encounter with a 10-minute
hard enrage timer. All enemies will also receive the Emergency Mode
buff, increasing their health and damage dealt. There will also be constant
patches of fire spawning throughout the room, making it even more challenging to
find a safe spot and avoid the other mechanics.
Mimiron will also use a few new abilities to try and put the fires out in his workshop. Use these abilities to control the fires and help defeat this encounter:
Phase One Hardmode Abilities
- Flame Suppression — Periodically floods the room and puts out all fires.
Phase Two Hardmode Abilities
Frost Bomb — Do not stand near these when they land as they will knock back and damage.
Phase Three Hardmode Abilities
- Emergency Fire Bot — Casters need to avoid standing near these to avoid the silence aura.
Phase Four Hardmode Abilities
Frost Bomb — Do not stand near these when they land as they will knock back and damage.
