Pit of Saron Dungeon Guide

Before heading into Pit of Saron, we advise you to get all the dungeon quests related to it. To make this process easier, we have written a separate guide for the quests and their chains.

The Pit of Saron entrance can be found in the far South of Icecrown, on the Southern side of the Icecrown Citadel structure.

Here we will give you a full rundown of what you can expect from each of the bosses found here on both Normal and Heroic difficulties as well as the items they drop.

At the start of the encounter, all of the skeletons in the area will come to Forgemaster Garfrost's defense. Quickly kill them off before focusing on the boss himself. This fight mainly revolves around managing your stacks and the damage from the Permafrost aura. The aura can be line-of-sighted by using the rocks spawned by Throw Saronite.

Avoid being in front of the boss if possible to avoid taking damage from Chilling Wave. Deep Freeze will slow a random target down, making it more difficult to properly line-of-sight to avoid the damage from the aura; try to dispel it if possible.

Every 33% health, Garfrost will upgrade his weapon with Forge Frostborn Mace, increasing his Frost damage dealt by 100% each time. This makes the Permafrost aura much more dangerous. Be aware of your stacks at all times to avoid taking too much damage.

Avoid standing in the ooze puddles spawned from Toxic Waste. Ick will sometimes target a random player with Pursuit, slowly chasing them around the area and dealing high damage to them if he reaches them. Kite him around the area and do not let him get close to you if you are targeted with this.

When Explosive Barrage gets cast, many Exploding Orbs will spawn all over the area, constantly casting Explosive Barrage on any nearby enemies. Keep moving around and avoid taking damage from these orbs. Melee players may want to stick together and move together during this phase to avoid spawning too many orbs in melee range.

During this fight, Scourgelord Tyrannus is the main target, while Rimefang stays in the air and attacks random players. Spread out to avoid taking AoE damage from Rimefang's attacks. When a DPS is targeted by Overlord's Brand, they must stop attacking as all damage they deal will be reflected back to the tank.

Occasionally Tyrannus will mark a target with Mark of Rimefang, commanding Rimefang to blast the target with Hoarfrost. This will stun the target and any nearby allies in the area. If you are marked by Mark of Rimefang, be sure to run away from other nearby players to avoid multiple people from getting stunned. Rimefang will also bomb random areas with Icy Blast, dealing high Frost damage to anyone in the area and covering the area in Icy Blast, slowing anyone in the area and dealing damage-over-time.

Tyrannus will periodically gain Unholy Power, increasing his melee damage dealt by 75% but slowing his movement speed down. Depending on the gear of your group, your tank may want to kite Tyrannus around until the buff falls as he will deal much higher damage during this time. It also helps greatly to kite Tyrannus through a Icy Blast patch of ice, as this will slow his movement speed down even further.
