Getting into Ruby Sanctum
The Ruby Sanctum is located beneath Wyrmrest Temple in the center of Dragonblight. The small room beneath Wyrmrest Temple is filled with portals, the one located in the North East corner of this room will allow you access into the Ruby Sanctum. This instance shares access summoning stone with Obsidain Sanctum.
Halion Encounter Guide
Halion is a relatively straight forward encounter that will challenge your ability to react to debuffs and balance your damage within Halion's physical and corporeal realms. For this encounter you will need two tanks and anywhere between three to five healers, depending on your groups confidence in dealing with the mechanics. This fight has no particular advantage for Melee or Ranged DPS, so a healthy mix of both is ideal.
Phase 1
Halion will begin the encounter in his Physical realm. Halion is a dragon and as such has a tail swipe, cleave and breath attack; make sure your raid is positioned at Halion's side and the active tank is the only member of the group infront of Halion.
Mark of Combustion is the first major mechanic in this encounter. It is a stacking debuff that must be dispelled.
Mark of Combustion grows in stacks for every tick of damage it deals to it's target, so it is crucial
to dispel it quickly, but not too quickly; upon being dispelled it will knock back anyone near the target
and leave a pool of fire, the size of which depends on how many stacks the person who was dispelled had
at the time of being dispelled. Whoever is afflicted with this debuff must quickly run from the raid and
towards an edge of the room to be dispelled which will avoid the ground effect from becoming disruptive. On Heroic
difficulty this fiery zone will inflict a stacking debuff to anyone within it so getting out of it as soon
as you are dispelled is crucial.
Meteor Strike is the other major mechanic during this phase; Halion will summon a projectile that strikes a randomly selected player's location,
dealing massive fire damage to anyone beneath it and causing fire to spread from the point of impact. This can be
entirely avoided by simply moving to the other side of the boss. On Heroic difficulty,
Meteor Strike will
spawn a Living Inferno add which must be tanked and killed as soon as possible. Meteor Strike will also spawn smaller
Living Ember adds which also need to die quickly. If an ad is alive, it needs to be the priority for everyone in the raid.
Phase 2
At 75% health Halion will retreat into the Corporeal realm, which acts almost inverse to the Physical realm. Halion
continues to attak with his breath, tail swipe and cleave, so make sure to remain beside the boss instead of in-front of or behind Halion.
The Corporeal realm offers new challenges in the form of Mark of Consumption and Twilight Cutters. Mark of Consumption
is another debuff that stacks as it deals damage but instead of knocking players back if they are too close when dispelled
it will pull them towards the dispel target. This debuff also spawns a voidzone thats size will depend on how many stacks the
target had when dispelled. On Heroic difficulty this will also cause a slowing effect to anyone hit by this voidzone, this however
can be dispelled by a Paladins
Hand of Freedom ability, so make sure to take advantage of this.
Twilight Cutters are the other main mechanic in this phase. On Normal difficulty, two orbs will spawn opposite of each other and circle around the perimeter of the room. Every 30 seconds they will 'connect', forming a shadowy beam between them dealing massive damage to anyone hit by it and continuing to rotate slowly around the room, this mechanic will need you to shift the boss's position in order to avoid being hit by this connecting beam; melee dps are particularly strong in this realm. On Heroic difficulty there are four orbs instead of two splitting the room into quadrants instead of halves, forcing more movement.
Phase 3
At 50% health, Halion will split in two, existing in both the Corporeal and Physical realms. A portal to the Physical realm will spawn allowing
players to exit the Corporeal realm. This must be done, as a new mechanic known as Corporeality comes into play; if Halion's
Corporeality
ever reaches 0 on either realm the boss will despawn and you will have to begin the encounter again.
Corporeality stacks also grant Halion
increased damage dealt and damage taken. The higher percentage of
Corporeality Halion has the more damage it will take and deal. You can
reduce the amount of
Corporeality Halion has by dealing damage to the boss itself. The goal is to have as close as possible to even DPS in both
realms, maintaining about 50%
Corporeality on the boss to avoid either realm being overwhelmed by Halion doing too much damage.
It is recommended that Melee DPS stay in the Corporeal realm as they are much better suited to handle the Twilight Cutters.
Ranged should take the portal and head to the Physical realm, as the fire caused by Meteor Strike will not limit their ability to deal
damage. Each realm needs a tank, and it is recommended to try to balance your healers between each realm, though the Corporeal
realm is likely to take a bit more damage. It will take some testing to determine exactly how you split your raid,
but as close to 50/50 as possible is recommended. In Heroic difficulty, the voidzones spawned by
Mark of Combustion
and
Mark of Consumption will persist in both realms, making it of utmost importance to place them correctly and avoid causing complications
for the other realm.
