XT-002 Deconstructor Encounter Guide: Strategy, Abilities, Loot
XT-002 Deconstructor is the fourth boss of Ulduar. This boss' hard mode can be activated by attacking and killing the heart when it appears during the fight. Do not forget to be aware of the various Raid Buffs and Debuffs as you work to optimize your Raid Composition for this encounter's mechanics!
Overview of XT-002 Deconstructor in Wrath of the Lich King Classic
XT-002 Deconstructor is the fourth fight of the raid, but it can also be fought second if both Razorscale and Ignis are skipped. This fight has a hard mode available, having one of the highest DPS requirements in the raid. In the middle of the fight, XT-002 Deconstructor will expose his heart, allowing players to destroy it to activate his hard mode. In addition to the boss's massive raid-wide damage, players will also be attacked by dozens of robotic enemies throughout the encounter.
Role-Specific Tips for XT-002 Deconstructor
DPS Tips
- Ranged DPS much make sure that the XE-321 Boombots are dealt with quickly to optimize damage and allow your tanks to grab things quickly.
- Be ready with any available knockbacks, slows, or stuns if any robots get close as they will likely kill your healers.
- Stack tightly in assigned positions and be aware of your debuffs at all
times, quickly moving out of the group if you are targeted by
Searing Light.
Healer Tips
Tympanic Tantrum is the main source of damage your raid will receive this fight; make sure you quickly top players up between the ticks of damage.
Searing Light also does a high amount of damage over time to the target, be sure to keep them alive for the duration of the debuff.
- Be mindful of any nearby bots you may have aggro on. You may need to adjust or move to avoid dying to loose adds.
Tank Tips
- Be sure to quickly grab any XM-024 Pummellers and Life Sparks and drag them under the boss so they can be cleaved down.
- Be aware of any loose adds coming in late as they will run straight towards your healers.

Strategy for XT-002 Deconstructor
Make sure to clear all of the trash in the room with XT-002 before engaging the boss. The raid will need to follow pre-assigned positioning to deal with the multiple debuffs that the boss will use throughout the fight to avoid crossing them with each other, similar to Thaddius in Naxxramas. A common strategy is to have players stack in the middle and then take one debuff to the left and the other to the right, leaving everyone out of range of both.
The two main debuffs you need to be worried about are Gravity Bomb
and
Searing Light.
Gravity Bomb will cause the target to
explode after 9 seconds dealing massive damage, and pull in any nearby
allies. This is why you will want a designated spot for these
players to run to, so no one else is nearby taking avoidable damage and getting
displaced by the pull-in.
The second debuff to watch for it Searing Light. Similar to the
Gravity Bomb,
Searing Light will damage any allies near the
debuffed player. Anyone with this debuff will need to immediately run out of the
group to a side by themselves while also being sure not to cross paths with the
Gravity Bomb players.
The last major ability of the fight is Tympanic Tantrum. This
ability deals 10% of all players' health every second for a total of 12 seconds,
meaning the entire raid will need a good amount of healing in those 12 seconds
to survive this ability.
Every time XT-002 Deconstructor loses 25% of its maximum health, it
will expose its heart. This heart will be attackable for
30 seconds and takes 100% increased damage. Any damage dealt to the heart is
transferred to XT-002 Deconstructor afterward, allowing you to easily
push 25% health intervals quickly, even by passing them with enough damage. Be
aware that if you completely kill the Exposed Heart the first time it
appears, you will activate the hard mode of the fight, which you may not wish to
do.
While the Exposed Heart is out, waves of robots will attack players
as they attempt to defend the vulnerable heart. XE-321 Boombots must be
focused by ranged players quickly. When they reach XT or are killed, they will
Boom, dealing serious damage to everything nearby; use this to
quickly help AoE the rest of the bots down. XS-013 Scrapbots must not be
allowed to reach the boss, or they will heal XT-002 Deconstructor for 1%
of its maximum health each. Finally, XM-024 Pummellers are much healthier
than other robots and will require a tank to pick them up. If attempting
hard mode, you will want a tank to pick these up and keep them to the side,
ignoring them for the remainder of the fight. If doing it normally, you can
cleave these down while getting as much damage into
XT-002 Deconstructor as possible.
Strategy for Hardmode XT-002 Deconstructor
To activate this hard mode, you must completely kill the
Exposed Heart the very first time it appears. Doing so will cause
XT-002 Deconstructor to heal to full and gain his hard mode buff,
Heartbreak, greatly increasing his damage and health. Since you
destroyed the
Exposed Heart, there will no longer be waves of robots
spawning to defend it; instead, you will only need to deal with the
empowered boss.
XT-002 Deconstructor also gained improved versions of his previous
debuffs, Gravity Bomb and
Searing Light. When the
Gravity Bomb explodes, it will leave being a
Void Zone,
essentially removing an area of the room from use. These zones last until the
end of the fight, requiring precise placement from each
Gravity Bomb
victim.
Searing Light also gains a new effect after expiring; this
will now summon a Life Spark after the debuff runs out. This add needs to
be quickly taunted by a tank and focused down as it deals moderately high single
target and AoE damage.
While XT-002 Deconstructor does not change much on hard mode compared to other bosses, the main challenge of this fight is the massive healing and DPS requirements to beat the enrage timer.
