Stat Explanation for Healing Priest
Healing Power
Healing Power increases the amount of healing by your abilities, the more healing power the stronger your heals and thus the less Mana you have to spend keeping your group alive. Discipline Priest especially enjoys the benefits of this increasing the effectiveness of their Power Word: Shield ability which has been made even more beneficial by the addition of the Soul Warding rune..
Mana Per 5 (Mp5)
Mana per 5 seconds or MP5 is the stat that allows you to continue to regenerate mana while in combat and casting abilities, this is a crucial stat as a healer and something you should actively seek out as much of as possible especially in the lower level bands where mana is likely to be quite an issue on lower level encounters.
Spirit
Spirit increases your Mana and Health regeneration while not casting or out of combat, this can be a useful stat if you are able to take advantage of the 5 second rule, which means you are not spending your mana for 5 seconds, after this period you would begin to regenerate mana as if you were out of combat, therefore being able to utilize your spirit.
As a Discipline Priest, assuming you are speced into Meditation you will continue to benefit from your spirit even while casting gaining 5% more of this regeneration in combat per point spent up to 15%. This greatly increases the value of Spirit for a Discipline priest compared to many other healers though it is still crucial to have the 5-Second rule in mind to maximize your mana return.
Intellect
Each point of Intellect increases your maximum Mana by 15 and slightly increases your chance to crit with your spells. Mana is incredibly important as a Healer as this is the resource you will need to be able to keep your party alive.
Spell Critical Strike
Spell Crit increases the chance of your spells to deal a critical strike which causes your heal to be 150% more effective, while this is a great stat for maximizing your HPS it can often lead to overhealing which is unfortunately useless. This stat is made even more valuable with the addition of Surge of Light and Divine Aegis which each offer a unique benefit when critical striking.
Stamina
1 Stamina will give you 10 hit points, while you will very rarely be tanking anything as a Shadow priest there are many situations especially in dungeons and raids where there is unavoidable damage, the more health you have the easier this will be to manage.
